Is Eoin Doyle not staying at Swindon? We've been linked
Somebody, probably bollocks, reckons we’re after Sam Winnall and/or Omar Bogle. So maybe.

Got to play in a certain way to get the best out of him, though. None of this lone striker, hoof it up nonsense. He’s essentially an old fashioned goal hanger. Don’t expect him to work his bollocks off. Wellens was insistent he needs to work less.

 Literally the opposite to how we've played under Coughlan then, if he signs for us we'll get the Bradford Doyle

Quite possible. Tbf, Doyle has made no secret that he wants one last big pay day, so maybe not bothered if he’s successful or not.

I wouldn’t lose any sleep if he goes. Ditto Yates.

Doyle’s made a career out of being hit and miss, with loads of misses but with enough purple patches to keep him in demand.
L2 is his level (there’s plenty of his standard in L1 and plenty more that are better) so you can understand why Swindon wouldn’t push the boat out in a higher division, even after how well he’s done there.

I can't see it. It sounds like he won't fit the style and we've just got rid of all our high earners.

Money has nothing to do with who we’ve kept and released, as things stand I’d still expect Mansfield to be chucking some cash about.

I agree. What I meant is we've just released a load of highly paid underperformers, so it doesn't make sense to immediately replace them with another one if he doesn't fit the style. I was expecting the manager to go for more energy up front, which is why I also thought it was strange that we offered Maynard a new deal. I like him but I was under the impression that the manager liked everyone to run really far. The money would be available but for someone who fits that mould.

I hope not, we need better than him. We do need one striker in this window though -, so who knows. But we need more of a target man. We also been linked Akinola from Barnet, but I think its all nonsense myself.

Many rumours saying we will sign Ouss Cisse next week on a pernament deal after his release from Gillingham.

This is what I meant. Jordan Bowery signs and I'll admit I know nothing about him except he used to be a Chesterfield player. This is how he describes himself:

“I will work as hard as anyone. I’m athletic, powerful, like to run in behind, control and hold up the ball. I’ll do whatever it takes to get a goal and work hard for the team.

“I’ll now be looking to get myself in peak condition for whenever we return. I’ll be raring to go when we do.”

Thought the Chesterfield fans rated him, That was about 7 years ago mind. Recall him scoring a screamer against Rotherham for them on Sky.

TrinidadsNumberOne you've seen him more recently than the Spireite bastards. How shit is he?

We had him for the best part of 2.5 years. Though not a consistent goalscorer I was a fan of him. His work rate is very good and he can bring other players into play. Can play on the wing better than up top imo and I wouldn't use him as a lone striker. But if you can pair him up with someone like Nicky Maynard and keep him fit he'll be an asset.

His downside is the fact that League Two is his level. He struggled in League One with MK Dons so no wonder they got rid.

Soon as I was typing out a post this popped up haha!

Nah I rated him for League Two. The thing is you'll probably be tempted to offload him if you eventually did go up to League One. His versatility and work rate are his strengths. His inconsistent form and the fact he's a massive confidence player are his weaknesses. But he'll fit in well at Mansfield. Believe he's from Nottingham so he should settle in easily too.

That’s a come down from Doyle!

I will probably sound like I'm clutching at straws because why would you want Bowery over Doyle, but I think what we need first is a base of good, honest players who will work hard. Our team became very overpaid and unlikeable.

Dunno much about him but from what I’ve read on here he comes across like the sort of striker a manager like GC is always going to need.

Only thing is we’ve probably paid a fee and that’s obviously going to get inflated several times

Wellens reckons to get the best out of Doyle he doesn’t really need to work hard. Just get in the positions in the box and let the creative types lay it on a plate. Lumping crosses into the box will see a return of the Bradford Doyle.

I pretty much agree with TNO about Bowery. The fans who say 'he's a striker who doesn't score many lol' will call him shit but they're wrong. He's not a particularly good finisher so he's not gonna score 15 a season but he will pop up with the occasional beaut. He contributes in other ways; he's hard-working, unselfish and uncomplaining and he's actually reasonably skilful. I was sorry to see him leave Crewe last summer (although ultimately delighted with his replacement).

Regarding Bowery -- Well I can only judge him on one game ( against us last season ) My god he was crap. He stuck in my mind because he was so crap. Big lump that can hardly run. What is Coughlan thinking of -- He must have seen him as well??? A mate of mine that watch the Villa couldn't believe it was the same guy he used to watch.

What is it with Mansfield and signing ex-Barrow strikers?

When we had Jordan Bowery in 2016/17 when we went down, the club had its well documented problems.

Bowery ended up being isolated from the first team after problems behind the scenes, he was then put back in the squad when Andy Edwards became manager. I remember he came on with ten minutes to go in our 3-2 Boxing Day win over Crawley with us holding on for dear life and he walked/jogged slowly around the pitch in those last ten minutes not really giving a shit, I don't like jumping on players backs - particularly after the clubs heirachy was clearly treating people like shit, but he really, really took the piss out of the fans and his team mates. As soon as he did that I knew he would be gone come January and sure enough Crewe eventually took him. The owners also issued a statement shortly before he was sold and really slagged him off for his low effort cameo on Boxing Day. Thems were the days.

Bowery for me is a very average league 2 player. He’s got the attributes to be a real asset, big powerful lad who’s reasonably quick. But he just doesn’t seem to believe in himself. He’s poor in the air for a big lad, his finishing is terrible for a striker. His pros are though, he doesn’t stop running and he’s very unselfish. All in all he’s an ok signing and should do well partnered with Maynard.
