Rob Lainton signs from Bury on a 2 year deal.
Keeper which we need, don't know much about him to be honest!
Confidence keeper fucking ruined by Flitcroft's constant choping and changing.
A little injury prone, normally when he has just established himself in the team and is looking very good.
Just needs a manager who believes in him and a little luck to stay injury free and you have a good keeper on your hands.

So I see that it's being suggested that Cameron McGeehan is virtually confirmed to be a Barnsley player?

Hopefully we're at least a million richer...

The Mirror (I know...) are saying it's £1 million plus sell-on clause. Decent money for a guy yet to recover from a broken leg and with a year left on his deal, although Norwich will get a percentage of the profit.

We did miss his goals at times in the second half of the season for sure, but even when he was in-form scoring goals his all-round play was often lacking (and that isn't a "he's about to leave" comment, loads of Luton fans have been saying the same thing for two seasons now). The more he has focused on his goalscoring, the less he has developed the other elements of his game. No doubt goals are a precious commodity but you do need a midfielder to offer more throughout the 90 minutes, you can get away with "just" scoring as a striker but midfielders need to contribute more.

The stats don't show a huge amount of difference with or without McGeehan in the team. In 16/17 League games only: 1.58 points per game with / 1.77 without, 34 goals from 24 games, 36 from 22 without, 22 v 21 conceded. And unlike the usual when losing important players, we've just played half a season without him so it's not like we have to find a new way to play without him like we did when, say, Andre Gray left us.

All in all, if the rumoured fee is accurate I'm not particularly upset at this one, especially if it means keeping hold of Hylton and James Justin for the foreseeable. It'll be interesting to see what sort of approach we take to replacing him. We still have Gambin and (unfortunately) Cook to play at the tip of the diamond if we stick with that, Cook is shit but Gambin deserves a chance to establish himself. Won't score goals at nearly McGeehan's rate but he is more creative which could help the strikers, at times last season it felt like we only scored when Hylton did something by himself. Also Jones played Hylton in the #10 role a few times when he wanted to use two other strikers without sacrificing the main man, I wonder if we might see more of that (or a more orthodox 4-3-3 variant) more next season. If we are looking at bringing in someone like Collins who you would think would be a guaranteed starter, with Vassell and Marriott still competing for game time, you would have to think that will be an option (although with the new retroactive punishment for diving Hylton will probably miss half the season...).

Or if we go with the 3-5-2 we didn't really play it with a #10 role last season, we had one holding and two box-to-boxers. At the moment our box-to-box options (for the diamond or 3-5-2) are Pelly and D'Ath, maybe Olly Lee at a push although he usually plays as the holder so hopefully he will be very much bench material at best next season. Pelly and D'Ath are decent enough options but definitely could be improved upon, and Pelly may even leave too if the rumours are to be believed, so that's where I'd be looking to reinvest rather than attempting to replace McGeehan in a more direct sense. If 3-5-2 is going to be Plan A then another centre back wouldn't be out of the question either, we've got four established ones but could do with more height and physicality. But then we also have the two youth centre backs who are coming up to the make or break stage now, don't want to block their pathway as both seem like they have a real chance of kicking on if given the opportunities. Shame that Jones won't bomb Mullins out really.

I'd be happy if we got £1m + say 20% sell on fee, although we'd only receive around £850,000 of that money. There's no guarantee where his game will be after such a bad injury.

Screw Mansfields new team, we have re-signed Shola Ameobi

He shouldn't be good. But he was basically a massive part in our huge form upsurge towards the end of last season. The ball just sticks to him

Just play a high line against you boys next season and should be fine, they'll be more pace in a 2nd hand Skoda than your forward line next season

How much you reckon you guys want? I've heard £600,000 and we've just been paid £650,000 from Sheffield United for Baldock.

Some sports press journalist has said O'Grady has interest from Chesterfield, Rotherham and Lincoln but his agent has now gone away for 2 weeks (find that hard to believe!).

Not just our forward line to be honest. Our whole team lacks pace of any kind and has done for years

Re Cam McGeehan

I hope they play him out of position all year, and sell him back to you double the price you got for him.

An agent of an uncontracted player going away for 2 weeks a week before pre-season starts?

We've signed Connor Smith from Plymouth. Don't know much about him, but played 31 times for them last season so must be half decent.

Morecambe have signed Adam Campbell. He's okay, we've all seen the type - hard worker, bit of skill and pace but doesn't back it up with anything like enough goals or assists.

They played surprisingly well together last season somehow.

Would expect it to be one or the other most of the time, though. Even putting the lack of pace aside, they're too old to be playing every game.

So Nathan Jones has confirmed that we're in the market for a second goalkeeper, right back, attacking midfielder and striker to complete our business this summer. Presumably that's not just to replace McGeehan, but in addition.

He's confirmed that probably at least 1 deal will be done this week, if not 2.

Jones also insists the Cameron transfer is not a done deal, but I'd be surprised if he's still here in a couple of weeks.

We badly need some goals in our squad. We only have 3 strikers Tom pope who is decent for this level Anton Forrester who ain't bad but doesn't score many and is injury prone and Dan Turner a young lad who will run his socks off but doesn't look like a natural goalscorer. Our whole squad lacks experienced if I listed our whole 19 players signed up so far you would probably have only heard of about 5 of them and slot of them haven't made many or any league appearances.

Fair few more signings to be made and plenty of experience with Eagles, Bikey and Taylor in discussion.

Pope, Pugh are experienced too so a few younger players won't hurt.

Be interesting to see how Dan Turner does, looked promising in a poor side last year and at a weaker level could do well for us if given the chance. Could be a massive hit or not really progress.

We've sorted the keepers this week which is a start and think Montano will be a big hit especially on our wide pitch.

Need either Bikey to sign or get an experienced centre half in, assuming we don't sell Nathan Smith we will have one of the best centre halves in the league if not the best but experience alongside will be massive for us.

Think we will still need 7-8 signings yet to complete us and hopefully hear back from the out of contracts as to their intentions soon. Eagles is on holiday with John Terry training in Portugal i see so have to see when he gets back I guess.

I feel better after the signings this week that things are starting to progress. Apparently waiting until pre season starts to find out if the Callum Guy and Tyler Walker loans can be completed. Them two would be massive if we can get them secured.

We're aiming for a squad of 22 according to Cowley tonight.

As it stands, we'll have 14 in for pre-season training on Monday so that means news on three players before then either new signings or contract renewals.

It's fine Andy, we've got 4 keepers
Yep 4 keepers 3 with no experience the other is meant be ok but is 27 and only played

To be fair though Slinn is a youth so won't be ready and assume Boot will be loaned out as he was way off being ready when called upon last season.[/QUOTE]
Boot only got given 1 game at home to bury and he looked nervous. Just cos your nervous doesn't mean you lack ability. I think he should have been given more of a chance as why keep him if it looks like he's not rated or in the managers plans.
