We’ve signed another striker, Jamie Reid who’s scored a load of goals at non-league level for Torquay - I’m always happy with these sort of signings, yeah they might end up useless at league level but it’s always worth a shot.

I reckon he’s the kind of striker with the Right attributes to make the step up.

Maynard is training with the Plymouth fitness coach today
Cheers. One of our IKN posters (he is close to 100 per cent right) said both us and Crewe have made an offer, that Crewe might be the more favoured as it is nearer to home.

He looked alright when he was with us but was never going to be first choice, a bit too lightweight and not great decision making. He might cut it in the league now hes a bit older and more experienced.

Why are clubs signing players now? No idea when pre-season might start, what the wage cap will mean or whether there will be any fans allowed in next season.

Surely it makes sense to hold off and keep as few players on your payroll as possible?

You’d a thought. Who can commit to anything now.

It makes sense to get the best players you can now while they are available if you've got the cash to ride out the storm.

Splashing the cash hasn’t done you many favours, though.

That's true but it's still worth a gamble with someone else's money

Doyle likely to pen a new deal with Swindon, apparently.

Mansfield’s interest not reciprocated.

I’d imagine we’d fit him into our wage structure either with or without a salary cap. The proposed limit of £2.5m is about what we had last season. Probably a pre contract agreement.

Contracts do not start until 1st Aug, when all signs say pre season training will start.

How would you manage with a £1.5m salary cap?

To add to what you've already got. 16 signed up is it, many on decent wages I'd have thought, probably means you're already close to the £1.25m limit if not over it.

Same applies to quite a few other clubs, going to be a lot of clubs struggling to meet the wage cap at this rate.

Probably why they’re signing them now before any cap comes into force.

No idea how it will work. Sunderland’s wage bill in L1 is £15m

We won’t be in for Maynard. His wages will be more than we could offer and I don’t see where he fits into our system tbh.

Dunno where Maynard will go, just hope it’s not in this division. Doubt it will be unless Salford get him.

Hopefully the wage cap rule is actually going to be regulated by the EFL and clubs that don't adhere to it punished. I think the clubs that play by the rules should be concerned about this.

Considering you finished 21st last season with the biggest budget in the division, no.

Couple of issues here fellas, it’s got nothing to do with where we finished last season - my comment was in regard to potential salary caps, nowt to do with onfield issues. Regarding budgets, it’s pretty obvious it was one of the biggest but it’s equally obvious it was not #1.

David Sharpe was on the D3D4 podcast the other week saying how he’s planning for all eventual possibilities regarding salary caps.

Now am I fully convinced? No but I’m going to go out on a whim here, slightly controversial I know but bare with me, I reckon he knows more than you, me and any other bloke that’s sad enough to frequent on a football forum for L2 football regarding salary caps.
