Also we were expected to win the league? I remember at the start of the season Sheffield United, Preston, Peterbrough and MK all being given a better chances than we were by many pundits and bookies. Expectations were play offs, not to win the league in the manner we did.

You might not have been expected to win the league during pre-season, but I bet those expectations shot up when you signed Agard for £750k a week or so before the transfer window shut.

Indeed. We were probably expected to be top 6 but I think some of us didn't realise how good Korey and Wilbraham would be - plus the improvement of Joe Bryan etc.

The turn around of Aden Flint, Marlon Pack being able to make the step up when required second half of the season as well

Theres also the fact that the majority of our squad is the league 2 winning squad with only really the addition of Dan Jones and Sam Clucas. Any other additions have really been fringe players or loans (although only really Georg Margreitter and Daniel Johnson had much impact).

Yeah lot of respect for you guys on this point to be fair, similar to us when we went up last time, great faith.

The Agard signing not so much, was more confused as he played out right for Rotherham and we don't use wingers, so a tad concerned if anything.

Cook for me, newly promoted and unfancied, lost his top scorer by far in January and make the play offs.

Cotterill had a huge budget so did as you'd expect. Robinson has some great youth players to pick from but Cook for me has done remarkably well.

The squad was still heavily financed, whether by Lansdown or the sale of Baldock - it doesn't really matter which. If you can afford to buy decent players then you'll do well. I think Cook has worked absolute miracles at Chesterfield, especially after losing his best centre back on the eve of the season, and then the leagues top scorer in January.

Lansdown's money had nothing to do with our transfers for the 47827498273rd time!

I don't quite know what you aren't understanding. Lower league football clubs such as Chesterfield generally have to sell players to pay for other expenses within the running of the club - City don't have that issue with Lansdown ploughing money into their infrastructure. It's very simple. That is why the Baldock money was able to be 100% re-invested in the playing squad (and well invested, no-one is disputing that). So actually, Lansdown's money has quite a lot to do with your transfers.

Cotterill has been very canny and also lucky.

He brought in class players on good money but not that many of them.

Where he was lucky was the lack of injuries/suspensions to key players stretching a small squad.

Called discipline Dan? I can, as a Swindon fan, see you may fail to understand that, but I wouldn't class lack of suspensions as lucky. Injuries on the other hand, we haven't done too bad. And when we have picked some knocks loan players have come in and done a cracking job.

Indeed - agree about suspensions. We have one of the best records on fair play so that isn't luck.

Paul Cook has done very well and also comes across as a great footballing guy.

Though, through no bias, I have to go with our gaffer, Stevie Cotts!

Honourable mentions for - Paul Cook for getting Chesterfield into the play-offs, even after having to sell Doyle in January

- Mark Cooper. Seemingly if Power is to be believed our budget is 1.5 million, good use of the loan market (which I know some people hate, but well within the rules) and has us playing some great football. Indiscipline has cost us a shot of autos but to get us 4th is a very good effort.

Steve Cotterill - I don't like him at all but he's done what he had to do and took City up very easily, winning the auto glass trophy to boot. Goals coming from all over the team and the City fans were very entertained this season. Had the biggest budget in the league (probably) but that doesn't always guarantee success, which he has brought.

However my winner by far is -

Karl Robinson, to achieve what he has, putting together a wonderful attacking team who are a joy to watch, and put together with a budget less than my penny jar in our kitchen. The man should be knighted.

It was me and I said 'best team in the league at the moment' when we were in the middle of a 7-match winning streak.

Some of your more handicapped fans decided to take offence though and became a bit obsessive.

As for this thread, Mark Cooper for me, I hadn't even heard of 50% of their players at the start of the season and they mounted a good automatic challenge.

Either Cook, Cooper or Cotterill depending on the results of the playoffs.

Without trying to be biased, Mark Cooper has taken a team with a low budget and full of kids to the brink of the championship, playing some attractive football along the way, at times the best in the league. IF we go up, he has to be considered.

Cook, for all the reasons mentioned above.

Cotterill as well. Yes, he may have had an arguably easier job (than Cooper and Cook) given what's been mentioned above but they stormed the league, and in fairness they did win the JTP too. All that can't be ignored.

I'll say Cotterill. Bristol destroyed this league. Big bucks maybe but he still had to deliver which is something Grayson in a similar situation completely failed to do.

Got to rate Cooper, Cook and Robinson as well though.
