I find myself taking the cups more seriously for each year that passes.

Probably because it's longer since we won anything for each year that passes.

There is no reason why Liverpool shouldn't take this competition seriously. No European football should really give them the edge in the PL and also give Klopp the opportunity to fight on more fronts in the domestic cups than some of his rivals will have

Alexander-Arnold, Ejaria and Grujic are all set to start against Spurs tonight. [Paul Joyce]

Glad we are giving some of our young players a chance to play against decent quality opposition.

Would I be right in assuming that you don't expect to win this one, raisin testicles?

Should be a good game and I expect Klopp to take it more seriously than Pochettino understandably. Let's hope for goals aplenty.

Disappointed we're not starting Ings, though hopefully he'll get a good half hour or more if it goes to extra time. Sturridge is needing goals so thats probably why he's included to try and get him up and running; and Origi is needing match fitness as well, so it makes sense having these two upfront. Great seeing Ejaria, Grujic, Stewart and Alexander-Arnold getting starts; they are hitting the fringes of the first team for sure.

In my opinion that lineup is ridiculous. We need a title badly and this is our best shot, as it is every season. We're out of Europe and change half our starters for regulars and this would be a slam dunk, without risking too much in terms of fatigue and injuries.

But oh well. Exciting to see some of these players at least, Grujic looked fantastic in pre-season.

Sturridge gets his goal, should get him motivated for the rest of the game.

Sturridge puts Liverpool 1 up.

N'Koudou with the slip to give up possession in his half will probably be pointed at as the key point, but there were a shitload of Spurs defenders in the box and did anyone else think Vorm was in slow motion to ge t theball.

Just said that about Vorm in the shoutbox. He looked favourite all the way until it started to look like he was moving on a treadmill

He did seem to be slow to react, pity he wasn't like that in the league game where he was exceptional.

Despite having decent numbers back the Spurs defenders all keep bunching up.

Missed about 20 minutes of that first half but glad to see we're in the lead.

Lucas has been good and Moreno has done well too, so therefore this Spurs team must be shit.

Good to see some youth giving a chance and there's a good balance in the team of experience too.

Despite the close scoreline I think Spurs have been pretty crap and Liverpool deserved to win this and should perhaps have done so by 3 or 4.

Oh fuck off. Here I was for twenty minutes thinking you'd go over the top about how shit Lucas is and I had such a well thought out response, and this is what you come up with?

Stop stealing my lines and stick to the script.

Yeah Spurs only created one real chance outside diving for the penalty, whilst Liverpool had plenty other good chances to finish the game off earlier. Enjoyed that, and thought Alexander-Arnold was the pick of the youth players.

Also though Wijnaldum had his best game as well, he and Stewart were excellent.

Yep Wijnaldum was very good I thought too. He lasted 90 minutes too which is good to see as you'd assume he'll just slot in where Henderson plays against Palace as Henderson is banned. Fancy picking up 5 yellows in 9 games the dirty bastard.

Henderson was suspended yesterday, wasn't he? Don't think there's something like a league ban, it's always for all English competitive games.
