Monreal is the more natural defender imo, (Gibbs could never play CB) but Gibbs offers a lot more going forward. They compliment each other well in the squad. Bellerin was brilliant as well. Jenko is probably off in the summer.

Ahhh.. I love chatting about the footie... RIP TFF

I don't think Monreal played badly on Sunday, just think his passing and understanding going forward are very average for an Arsenal full-back.

Certainly. Our ability to break down the left side was hampered, but ultimately beneficial for this result. Likely a contributor to Alexis' subpar offensive performance, but it wasn't needed for a change.

I think Monreal is much better than Gibbs (who can't cross for shit half the time) going forward but worse defensively than Gibbs. He was partly at fault in a lot of our heavy defeats last season. He seems to be playing better now though and was unfairly criticised when he filled in at CB given it's not his natural position. Don't think he should be converted to a CB though, he struggles against big strikers too much.

An interesting contrast in opinions about their respective strengths / weaknesses. The slightly worrying thing for Arsenal fans must be that they are both mid-20s. Gibbs is the same age as Ashley Cole was when he went to Chelsea, and is miles off the level he reached both defensively and going forward.

Tbf City won the league with Gael Clichy at left-back so I reckon we could play me there and it wouldn't be a dealbreaker.
