I do realise Vardy went for about £1m but that must be an exception surely. Pilley could ask for whatever he wanted considering he could just plough in his pocket money.

theyd take £200k and be happy for it.

plus his head will be will turned by the need to play league football, I’m sure a trip to Altrincham next season will hardly excite him

He's a fantastic player, absolutely no doubt about it, as he demonstrated with his playoff goals and the one he got at ours. Not sure about the length of his contract but when you realise this is the last year of parachute payments he will be going for considerably less than that should the interest be there.

Two and a half years when he signed in January, so no worries on contract - looking at some previous sales from this level, I would be amazed if we entertained anything much below that to be honest.

Yeah some crazy numbers being spoken about. Nobody is paying £1m or anywhere near for any Non League player unless they are as good as Vardy was, which this lad plainly isn't.

Good player though, could see him being a Marcus Maddison and moving on to Peterborough or somewhere maybe.

Not exactly outlandish - Pboro signed a lad from Barnet for £500k rising to £1m back in January, and Roberts plays a position where players always go for more money.

Altrincham should excite next to nobody but he was signed from Blyth so I don't think that's an instant problem.

The real issue is how good he is, which is a problem Notts haven't had for some time. Speaks volumes on the impressive recruitment this season.

Our supporters have taken it well as always. The MAD message board pretty much up for an Ardley lynching, sackings too good for him.
Personally, I'd like him to sign a couple of midfielders and build from here rather than blow the whole thing up again.

We effectively had no club about four days before the season, without wanting to sound like Ardley it’s pretty astonishing that we ended up where we did.

That said, he’s now got some tough choices to make and needs to be brave in doing so.

Obviously the season started in less than ideal circumstances, he has had some decent money for this level to throw at getting a team together for the vast majority of the season.

Idiotic to base too much on one game, but today was symptomatic of many of the problems we’ve always had under Ardley, picking players on past records, too much reliance on ‘experience’ over mobility and dynamism and too much reliance on individualism over a cohesive attacking plan.

At least next season is a no-brainer, all being well virus wise everybody will consider not getting promoted as failure. Do I expect Ardley to deliver? No.

Nice to see NCM actually criticise a few players and not solely just the manager. The fact there was a thread questioning whether the manager should stay or go just before the final sums that message board up perfectly.

Agree regarding over reliance on experience, that would be one of my two direct questions for the manager if allowed the opportunity. The other would be Mitch Rose? Why?

Saying that, Jim O Brien and Turner were faultless in the semi final so very difficult to drop for the final but I do agree with the overall sentiment.

Ardley is conservative, cautious so not taking gambles with more inexperienced players fits the bill.

If the central midfield can be energised and improved next season, we should be right up there at the business end of the season.

Fylde had that lad Tasdemir who looked decent and went for about £250k? (Fyldefan maybe able to confirm). Haythornthwaite would have driven a hard bargain as well.

They're entitled to, apart from a 20 minute second half spell, it was a disgraceful performance from their team. Quite as bad as Tranmere in 2017.

Pretty much every Notts fan I’ve seen to a man has said Harrogate were the better side and deserved it 100%.

Just seen Harrogate’s manager has automatically become the FL’s longest serving manager at 11 years despite being unpaid for months. What’s that all about?

That mania for success now at all costs is what's got us down here in the first place. It's part desperation to compete with Forest, part conceit, we have decent support and a pretty big ground.
We're going to need the owners to stand firm. Worryingly our last two efforts at the playoffs both ended in defeat and relegation the following year, we will need to strengthen or like Fylde this year things can go wrong quickly.

If it means anything - it took us until our 4th season to get into the playoffs - and lose in them.

I regret the daft wind up last week, deserved the abuse I got. Keep your side together, and you’ll do well.

I note you’ve got Altrincham next season - that was the game that really woke me up, losing 1-0 after conceding after 10 seconds which made me realise where we were. You guys have actually been pretty responsive to things. Like we did - Admit to being non league and then you’ll improve - we spent 2 seasons pretending (and wasting) we weren’t

keep the manager and the players / given the league is pretty poor, Stevenage/macc won’t do anything and I think you’ll win it

it's not Harrogate they are bitter about on twitter - it's Barrow for getting the title

Stockport County.
Notts County will be right up there next season. They will be most people's pre season title favourites I imagine, including mine.

Harrogate going up just proves how strong the North (by it standard) when were trying to get up. Salford, Harrogate all got up to the Football League pretty quick time after going from the North. Fylde were also very close. It'd be great to see us have a real go at it next year but there are some very well established teams down here next season who only need a few tweaks. Notts County being one.

You mean drawing 2-2 at our place in your first game didn't wake you up that you were non league?

A few of you lot really need to do better, you can’t let one fan from Mansfield cause that much distress.

Looking forward to the final, I don’t see much between the two sides from what I’ve seen, and I wouldn’t mind playing either next season to be honest, although Nottinghamshire police will make sure if it’s County we will play each other when crowds are not allowed anyway.

provided much amusement. Harrogate are a side to be reckoned with next season.

If our past playoff defeats are anything to go by, Harrogate will be in the Champions League within 5 years just to rub it in.

But what a golden 20 minutes.

"It's the hope that kills you"

are you going to conveniently disappear again until you’ve a chance of promotion?

Altrinchams a cracking non league ground close to me, you should pop in for a brew

It really isn't much of an achievement to get bites on this forum. Not one for your CV lad.

Pleasantly surprised to see you realised that you've got to up the quality of your wind ups. The recent ones were as you say "daft", we'll put it down to the lockdown shall we?

You mean when I disappeared from a football forum for the 4 months when there wasn't any football? Funny that :ffs::lol:

I posted throughout the season when there was actual football to talk about.

You really should think before typing to try and prevent yourself looking so stupid.

You’ve barely been about since you went into NON LEAGUE, don’t try to hide behind that - even a random Cambridge fan picked up on it.

Enjoy Altrincham next season pal #stain:bye:
