Can't believe they've appointed this idiot when they are in such a perilous situation.

It was inevitable, looking at Villa's 'Men's' section on their official club shop site: http://t.co/Mw9IxKE2Af

Strange that he's been given a contract that expires on the same day Lambert's would've. Bizarre way of doing things at Villa.

I'm confident he'll get a reaction from the players in the short term which will be enough to keep them up. But after that? Not sure if he's the right man to take them forward.

Tim Sherwood's #avfc contract until 2018. Villa call him "one of English football's most highly sought after managers". Want youth promoted.

Tim Sherwood's actually taken a job he's been favourite for!

Looking at the reaction he got from the Spurs players last season (especially the likes of Adebayor), I think he might have enough to get them out of it. Villa's squad is talented enough, a fresh start could do them some good.

Not sure about after this season mind, would be interesting to see how Sherwood 'builds a team' as such.

We'll probably benefit from this by getting a few of Villa's kids on loan next season. Grealish would be nice ;)

Not sure Sherwood is the man for the job, it's a shame Villa didn't boot Lambert much sooner so they could have gone for Pulis.

A team that used to be good
Sherwood came in and seemed to lift and motivate the Spurs players - we need this
In his 28 games in charge, Spurs scored 40 goals - we need goals....
He walked away from QPR over his salary but also over the transfer kitty he'd get in the summer - clearly he's happier with what Lerner is offering if he's taking our job....
When he took over Adebayor had scored zero league goals and finished on 11 - Benteke anyone?

He might not be the big name people were hoping for, me included, but looking at our situation realistically he's a decent option, but I am suprised that it is a 3 year deal...

Is a manager that openly criticises and blames his players really a good thing for a squad that's completely shot of confidence?

I thought it was a worrying sign when he'd had about 3/4 interviews with other teams and not managed to get the job.

Still hope Villa go down. Seeing their half-empty stadium on MOTD is depressing. Benteke need's a better club with better service, he'll be gone in the Summer. Delph was crazy to sign that deal with the club in the position they're in - it's a good sign of honour and loyalty but, crazy.

Could be a good appointment if he can bring the positives from his short Spurs reign. Did well there despite everyone knowing he was only there short-term, as such I would guess (and hope) the slightly bizarre press conferences etc are a thing of the past as he knows he's on a long-term deal.

I think he'll keep them up this season, although I don't think they'd have been relegated under Lambert either.

The big test will start in August.

It's a risky appointment for me, he's a little bit like the Cockney version of Lee Clark - passionate, open & honest with his opinions, not especially media savvy and a tad naive.

I think if nothing else Villa will have an entertaining end to the season one way or another...

Pulis and Pardew both came in and turned things around immediately, Sherwood will need to do the same.

They should have gone for Colin Pascoe...worked under Rodgers...who worked under Jose Mourinho...who worked under Bobby Robson.

If nothing else at least the post-match interviews should be entertaining when Villa get gubbed.

I'm quite looking forward to seeing Sherwood in another managerial position.

He seems to get a lot of hate, and maybe I missed some of his more irksome interviews, yet I would rather see someone honest and out spoken and also (dare I say it) relishing the job, than some boring nonentity who either treats it all like some sort of chore or like managing a football team is some sort of science that only the truly initiated could ever understand.

Yeah I'm looking forward to seeing how he does in a new job, I don't particularly rate him and I never understood why he kept banging on about how the best win percentage out of any Spurs manager, which was only cos he had such less games than the rest.

I agree, I'm not sure I'd go as far as saying I rated him at Spurs but he was far from the caricature people made him out to be. Honest to a fault perhaps but he always seemed to have control and respect. I didn't buy the tabloid nonsense about all the players issuing ultimatums either. He's a bit too vocal and Steve Kean-y in his boasting about bringing through Harry Kane but he certainly played a part in giving youth a chance (and his U21 background), I remember Bentaleb catching flak when he was first thrust into the side but he's turned out well. In fact I recall him being reluctant to deal in the transfer market when all the AVB flops needed jettisoning, as he preferred giving Bentaleb, Mason(?), Kane and Carroll a chance - which kind of fits well into Villa's situation of having a productive youth system and not paying big fees for players.

His attacking style will be a breath of fresh air as well for a lot of Villa fans, certainly the one I know who still actually quite rates Lambert but found it hard to keep going every week and pointing out his strengths whilst being bored to tears for 90 minutes.

He's a character and there's a chance his 'style' will see it all go horribly wrong, but he's not the Premier League Martin Allen he's made out to be.

Mark Robson appointed as first team coach. Will he apply his reverse-Midas touch at Villa Park?
