apparently this can't be discussed till someone starts the match thread, so here we go... Have at it. I can see this being a long thread.

Prediction.

Hartlepool 0 - 3 Carlisle (Ibehre 2, Wyke)

Difficult one to call this, we've had a relatively difficult start to the season yet are slightly underperforming and Hartlepool have had a really easy one and yet are still probably slightly overperforming. Don't know if Hartlepool's pitch is any good for passing football, if it is I can see us playing you off the pitch with a good crowd behind us. I don't really need to say this any more but Jabo will be scoring.

Team:
Gillespie
Miller Troy Raynes Grainger McQueen
Dicker Hery Kennedy
Ibehre Wyke

Hartlepool 2 - 3 Carlisle

I'm not convinced by Hartlepool, they've had a reasonably easy start to the season - Newport, Morecambe and York - all of which are considered bottom-half sides. It's no surprise they came unstuck when they faced a half-decent opposition (Stevenage).

We've had a tougher start, facing Cambridge, Plymouth, Wimbledon and Mansfield. 4 teams there who'll be aiming for a top-half finish at least this season. Despite this, the Blues have only managed to get 3 points on the board (3 draws, 1 loss).

I'm not as optimistic as I was a week ago, as we're leaking goals for fun and we can't continue to rely on Ibehre.

It'll be a sad day if/when Paynter scores against us for the Pools, it's nailed on.

At the moment, I'll say 1-1. That may change later in the week.

Oh no you've done it. You've started a match thread before our next game has been played.

Now Jabo will break his leg at QPR and Paynter will eat a dodgy pie at half time against Bournemouth and be hospitalised with food poisoning.

I'd say there's a better chance of Paynter eating a dodgy pie than there is of him scoring against us the fat fucker!

Paynters only had to score 3 goals to get us the wins because we have something you may have heard of ... A defence ..... Jabos goals are a bit like Paynting the Forth Bridge , as soon as he scores one he has to score another just to keep it all level

Not pretending the defensive side of our game isn't shambolic but Ibehre is just so far ahead of Paynter.

Maybe based on the Paynter of last season.
I was dubious when we signed him,but what I've seen of him he's a decent forward.
Wouldn't take too much notice of our annual defeat at Stevange.

Agree we've had fairly easy fixtures, but Plymouth apart yours haven't been that difficult. Why are The Dons & Mansfield expected to finish top half?
Cambridge have spent money but are no great shakes & were turned over by 10 man Crawley today.

I've seen both players and I think it'd be impossible for Paynter to have improved to the level Ibehre is currently at over the course of one summer.

Cambridge are one of the favoured sides to be promoted, they've recruited very well this summer and will be up the top come May imo. One game doesn't define a season.

Maybe Wimbledon and Mansfield aren't likely to be top half, but I reckon they'll finish comfortably ahead of York/Morecambe/Newport.

Given the choice, I think most in this division would prefer your opening fixtures to ours.

I think it's more a case of you playing recently against opponents that have zero attacking threat rather than you having a water tight defence.

The goals you conceded today were poor. Let's see how you get on against decent sides before you start popping open the champagne.

I can't remember the last time you finished above us to be honest. It's a bit of a freak of nature Hartlepool being above Carlisle.

We'll see. I reckon we'll be comfortably above you come May.

I think 3 of his goals this season so far have been where the ball has just bobbled loose in (or on the edge of) the box and he's been first to get to it.

Hope your defenders have good ball control Hartlepool or Jabo's gonna fill his boots.

Jabo may well be as good as you say but Carlisle are a one trick pony. When he has an injury or a dry spell, as all strikers do, who's going to get you the draw?

And out of your seven league goals so far, which of the above have weighed in?

Seriously?

Charlie Wyke has only started 2 games, with 1 sub appearance. He's scored 1 goal and has looked a threat up top, he's only 2 goals behind big Billy. Crisis!

No need to be jealous, you might have a decent striker one day :)

You don't need anyone else to chip in goals when you have the top scorer in England :woo:

You do when your top striker in England gets crocked, sent off, gets man flu or has two bloody great big defenders up his nose all game.

We had Charlie Wyke at ours last season on loan. If he was any good he'd have shone in last years team like a diamond in a sea of shit. As it was he blended in nicely.

7 goals in 18 appearances ain't too shabby, especially for our 2nd best forward.

If you plan to mark him with two defenders then how will you stop Charlie Wyke scoring?

You have a difficult dilemma coming up.

Either you put all 10 outfield players around Jabo, and Charlie scores, or you use one of those players to mark Charlie... and Jabo scores. Be interesting to see which of the above you decide to do.

Jabo has never been injured.

Jabo doesn't strike me as the type to get stupidly sent-off either, my guess would be he'll be playing around 40 games this season.

As for Wyke, how could anyone possibly stand out in teams as shite as Hartlepool and Carlisle last season? The few chances he did get he tended to bury, won us a couple of games single handedly last season to keep us up. I actually had him down to score loads more than Jabo this season but it's hard to compete with the most lethal striker in England.

Buzzing for Saturday now, surely one of the biggest League 2 forum games of the season alongside Notts County vs. Mansfield. Get ready for some Champions League quality football plus Billy Paynter pretending to be sufficiently in shape to play any sort of competitive sport.

Charlie Wyke is better than any of your strikers*

*apart from Sir Rakish obviously.

Neither is 3 from 5.

And yes, we have five defenders ta, and they aren't too charitable, unlike Carlisle's that have shipped 10 in 4.

As for defence, come back when you've played an actual football team. You already got shown up against Stevenage, we've only lost to Plymouth.

While we're discussing Paynter's goalscoring prowess, let's not forget that one of the two goals he scored last season was clearly an accident where he thought he was given offside and nodding the ball back to the keeper.

He went off injured immediately after it too

I thought that was the beginning of something. I was wrong.
