I threw in the towel and decided to spice this place up with knowledge you wouldn't expect to see on other football forums. I'll probably talk to myself a lot, but I don't care.

As an Universitario fan, I'll give my thoughts on todays game. Good and deserved 1-0 over Leon de Huanuco. We had a sloppy first half, but we we're dominant in the second. Canchita, Grossmuller, and Guarderas we're all fantastic today. Guarderas had excellent ball control, and made good passes. He's going to be crucial this season. Canchita came on in the second half, and has improved our creativeness as we only had Grossmuller in the first half. However all that said, I wasn't very fond of our defense or our attack line. Sloppy defense, and poor attack. Edison Flores wouldn't shoot for the love of him. I cease to understand why he kept on waiting. We missed so many good chances to shoot or cross, and he just refused to do it. German Alemanno had a very good chance early on in the second half but decided to make a sweaty pass to man marked Edison Flores. Its always good to make Germany-esque passes, however not when the other forward is well marked.

There were moments I feared Leon would equalize or score an early goal in the first half, but not the second. Only one chance involving Antonio Gonzales getting megged by Sotil for him to make a long ball to an unmarked offside man in the box. Not much to worry about though aside from that. Not sure how the stats will end up, but I was very happy with our performance. Also deserved red card for Leon at the end.

In other matches, Municipal returned to first division and got welcome by a 5-0 home defeat to Cristal with a debut hattrick by Pereyra (he has awesome goal celebrations) Alianza el cagon continued to be shit by losing to Sport Huancayo. Sport Loreto lost 4-2 to Union Comercio after getting promoted via Copa Peru, the "new and improved" Melgar lost their first game of the season away to Cienciano. Alianza Atletico lost 3-2 at home to Cesar Vallejo. Lastly, UTC beat Real Garcilaso in the first game of the season.

Who should win the league this season? Who should be good and who is looking like going down? From what I gather, Melgar, Alianza and Juan Aurich tend to be very strong, Inti Gas, Cajmancara and Garcilaso tend to near the bottom. This is ANOTHER South American league where away wins are quite rare away from the top teams. Home wins or draw.

Melgar have done some absolute fantastic business this season. They basically have all Universitario's team. I wouldn't be surprised if they won all 3 championships this season despite having a hiccup at the start. Alianza may do something later on, but not yet. Universitario may be favourites. I still have to see more of them before being totally convinced they can win anything. Garcilaso have been strong, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're near the bottom this time around.

Inti Gas have changed their name I should mention. They are now Ayacucho F.C. They'll be around the bottom same with Cajamarca. After yesterday, Municipal is already looking to go down. Only the first game though. The Copa Peru winners (Sport Loreto) are always favourites to go down so I'll say them.

Cristal looked the strongest team this week, and have an amazing player for this league in Pereyra who got a hattrick on his debut. Them and Melgar will be the 2 teams to watch out for this season.

Very random - I assume you are from Peru? How did you find your way onto a forum like this?

Won't pretend I know anything about Peruvian football mind.

What sort of crowds do they get in Peru mate?

Depends. In Universitario's case, we usually fill up during clasico's or if we are mounting a title challenge. Universitario owns the biggest stadium in the country, but its poorly maintained so for clasico's we have to move to the national team stadium. Our stadium has a capacity of about 80,000. Away fans aren't common in Peru mostly for the fact that Peru is one of the biggest South American countries (I believe its 3rd biggest) however when mounting a title challenge, you'll see away fans. It was the case with Alianza last season.

Indeed I am from Peru. I found this forum through TFF. I always neglected starting a thread on the original forums, but I decided to finally do it as I feel it would be cool to add knowledge you wouldn't expect to find on an English speaking forum.

Just had a look on Google as it is quiet at work and can see the games are in the Copa Inca? and not the league currently? Is that a straight knockout Cup Competition or a Group format leading to knock out?

Its a competition that was introduced last season. We used to have a full season then go to group stages and the winner of each group plays in a final, but last year we've decided to go back to the traditional South American style with an Apertura and a Clausura. I'm not sure how it works this season with 3 groups, but last season it was 2 groups and the winners go to a final.

As with Copa Libertadores, I didn't watch any of the games today. I saw Lobaton's goal, which I can't tell if it was a fluke or if he meant it. As much as I don't like Cristal, Lobaton scores some fucking amazing goals. Also completely forgot that Rinaldo Cruzado was at Vallejo who won 4-1.

Huancayo won at Ayacucho. 6 points out of 6 for them is a good, good start but I think in the end Alianza will overtake them.

Due to the awful scheduling, I won't be able to catch a minute of the Universitario game today.

I expect to line up like this.

Carvallo

Ampuero - Romero - Braynner - Benincasa

A. Gonzales

Grossmuller - Guarderas

Flores ----------------------------------------------------- Guttierez
Alemanno

Few changes from the other match. I don't know too much about Benincasa. Guarderas and Grossmuller HAVE to start. They were great in the other match.

Garcilaso will be tough because of the altitude, but this is Peru and we go to play in altitude every season a few times. We shouldn't have too much trouble. Grossmuller might struggle though as he's new to this league. Other than him we'll be fine I reckon.

I finally get to watch my beloved Universitario this weekend. Been 2 weeks. We'll probably lose tonight, but I'm hoping I'm wrong of course. Cesar Vallejo are a strong team after all. Can't predict the lineups today, all I say is Guarderas and Canchita HAVE to start.

Don't know what to say after that. Knew we'd lose. Glad it was only 1-0 though as there were plenty of occassions where Vallejo could have scored more. Fernandez is a good good goalkeeper but dreadful when it comes to set pieces. I've seen him concede a goal exactly alike to the one today against Jagielka when Peru played England.

How come Arequipa only have one team, as far as i know it's comparable in size to Cusco yet Cusco has 2 teams in the Primera Division
Hope Inti Gas go down, due to both my hatred of company teams and my hatred of Ayacucho itself.

Is Inti Gas still a company team though? They're just Ayacucho FC now.

I've never been to Arequipa, but I have been to Cusco. Cienciano is the historic team in Cusco while Garcilaso was founded just a few years back. They went up via the Copa Peru.

Arequipa is lovely! I bought a Cienciano shirt, but have not managed to see any Peruvian football. That's about all I can contribute to this thread...

I saw a Juan Aurich game in Chiclayo a few years ago, where it was like 1-1 I think, and the crowd started calling for the manager to sub on Reimond Manco, because once upon a time he was at PSV. The manager obliged and Manco proceeded to not effect the game in any way, but the crowd knows best right?

We're going away to Piura for the match against Alianza Atletico. Haven't seen them at all this season but went up through controversy and results haven't been convincing at all. Even though we haven't been playing well, there are NO excuses to lose here. We are simply the better side, and Alianza Atletico will be fighting relegation. No altitude or anything.

If I'm correct Piura is hotter than Lima so that may come to our disadvantage but its better than playing in altitude. Guarderas HAS to start. He's been our best player this season so far.

Coincidentally i was wondering what the situation is with away support here, surely got to have some cash to be able to follow your team in Peru

I've been to Mancora before. I was really young so I didn't like it too much. The waves are huge. They maul up the whole beach. Great place for surfing.

I would hazard a guess you've also been to Piura then.
Pretty sure you gotta go to Piura first then head up to Mancora

I said there were no excuses today. We lost 2-1.

The scoreline doesn't tell the whole story though. That game should have ended 4-0 in their favor. Every day I'm losing more and more confidence in this team. Every match I should say, but today just made my confidence take a drop. Worst performance I've ever seen from La U, and maybe the worst performance I've ever seen from a team. Absolutely embarrassing, we are the absolute shambles. We're utter dross. I normally don't tend to get angry when my team loses, but this has just pissed me off completely. I was quite mad that Garcilaso doesn't want their games broadcasted, but now I'm actually quite happy because surely this would've been the second rant this thread would have seen.

Anyways, what you want to see is the game. I won't pretend any of you actually watched it. Basically, if you couldn't tell from the above paragraph, we we're shit. The defense kept leaving holes for Alianza Atletico to exploit. There we're too many and looks like I was spot on about Raul Fernandez. Class keeper from open plays. Shit at set-pieces as proven by last match followed by this one. He really saved us from getting smashed. What was the point in trying to cross it in from anywhere on the pitch? That's what I noticed anyways. Every game is the same. We have absolutely no creativity. Nothing ever changes. I expected to lose to Cesar Vallejo last week, I certainly didn't expect to lose this as shit as I thought we we're. Looks like we're even worse than I though. We're conference standard, and that really is pathetic considering we have players who could get into championship sides at least.

Also, I was impressed with the crowds in Piura. It was mostly La U fans, but I don't know if they live in Piura or in Lima. Either way, fair play to those fans from Lima who travelled up to Piura only to see our team play like shit.

I defended Del Solar, but all this is his fault. As much as I like Oscar, he isn't a good manager, and he was only hired because he is mates with Del Solar. Embarrassing.

Well that's Oscar gone. I like him because I've met him before and he is a pretty good man, but he isn't the man we want as manager at Universitario.

In response to your comment about La U fans in Piura, I'd bet good money they were from Piura,
La U and Alianza fans are everywhere in Peru, similar to the whole Man U and Liverpool situation in UK
You probs already know this but whatever, thought i'd chime in.

Correct. There are away fans though. However Peru is a huge country with many different landscapes. We have jungles, mountains, deserts, we have it all. Travelling isn't at all easy.

Just turned on the match between Municipal and Melgar. Melgar are turning out to be the Peruvian Spurs. Brilliant business, results haven't been convincing in the slightest.

Wasn't able to watch the game yesterday. Been a while since Universitario thrashed someone. Should give us confidence. Good win.
