Sorry about the thread title. Just enjoying these dizzy heights of the playoff places while I can, before the inevitable plummet down towards the bottom begins. Being 5th feels like being on top of the world.

Great start for both teams. Swindon with an impressive win at Scunthorpe while we defied the odds by winning on the opening day for the first time in 9 years. Admittedly Crawley weren’t the strongest of opponents and our performance had a lot of things wrong with it, but you can only beat what’s in front of you.

We won this fixture 4-0 last season. That won’t be happening this time.
This is kind of a free hit for us. No one expects us to get anything from the game despite us being neck and neck in the table. With the opening day win we can go into this game knowing that whatever happens we won’t be bottom come 5oclock Saturday, hopefully that takes some pressure off.

I think to give us the best chance of making it a contest we need to tweak the team slightly. I’d add Carroll into the starting 11 instead of either Bridge or Scougall. Those 2 don’t have a defensive bond between them, players run off them leaving Jones completely exposed to be stampeded. Also Iredale to left back at the expense of Mellish. Wouldn’t be at all surprised if Pressley keeps it the same. He’s not great tactically in away games, as his dismal record for us shows.

Jerry Yates will obviously score at least one. Good little player when played down the middle. Hope he wakes up with a bad dose of the shits on Saturday morning.

Will be tough. Think you potentially have a good centre half pairing in Webster and Knight-Percival and it could be a frustrating afternoon for us if our home games last season are anything to go by.

Luckily we have a largely different squad and in Isgrove there's someone in red other than Doughty who's capable of unlocking a defence.

Hope we come through Tuesday v Chelsea U21 unscathed. Only thing I care about with that competition is avoiding injury.

Have to be optimistic after our result today. I expect our support to be more in to it than they have been for a while. It's a good chance to set the tone for the season if the fans start to believe Wellens could really be on to something.

Wish I could go but doubt me getting home for football will be a valid reason for the Mrs to want to leave Cornwall early. Looking like the 20th V Northampton will be my first game of the season.

In danger of repeating what I said from the Scunny match day Fred but don't really care!

This Saturday is a good barometer of how we are going to perform at home this season. We've been dreadful at home for about 3 seasons now so its time to turn it around and we have to learn how to play against teams that come in and sit deep. Given the 2 goals at Scunny were from fast counter-attacks, we aren't going to be allowed to do that at the CG and so we are going to have to play with more guile and cunning.

As it stands, fairly confident, I'll go 2-0 win.

With Isgrove and Doughty playing in the side , i really have no choice but to go for a win for us, hopefully Doughty will be more prominent than he was Saturday, he had a pretty quiet game.
Anderson, if he plays like he did Saturday, will unlock, any defence, I just wish he has a few more cracks at goal from outside the penalty area, as he has a great right peg and has scored a couple of crackers from distance.

Got Chelsea U23s tonight in the Up Yer Arse Trophy so hopefully Wellens will play a fair few fringe players - with the dreadful injury record a few of our new players have come with I reckon that’s a given.

I’ll go with the consensus of a 2-0 win.

Did you have Chelsea last season too? I remember someone having to play on some random date of Chelsea's choosing, thought it was maybe you.

Pressley is going along to watch it, see if you can make it a wasted trip for him.

I'd take a draw, definitely. My hope is that for all the positives in your performance on Saturday, winning away from home with two counter-attacks can't just be followed up with more of the same in your first home game, and we'll probably sit deep and try and soak up the pressure.

Chelsea smashed us 0-4 last season. Felt guilty for going but it was for my lad to experience his first stadium game in a stress free environment to see if he was ready. He was not.

May be a bit of a wasted trip for Pressley as we'll be making the maximum number of changes allowed. Don't expect Isgrove, Fryers, Doughty, Yates etc to feature much if at all.

Put Mellish in there and if their main threat is right-sided so that NKP is central and Webster at RCB and Hayden if main threat is on the left so either way you're nudging our more experienced CB pairing towards the threat; and perhaps also Loft for Olomola.

Bonus if Olomola becomes the first Scunthorpe player to score against Swindon this season.

I enjoyed that game, via iFollow. What’s happened to Broadbent? No wonder he’s not Wellens’ first pick any more, he was dreadful. Ballard doesn’t look ready for 1st team action yet. I liked the look of May - great goal, too. Isgrove just oozes class and skill.

Yates is a handful up front but needs help - 1 up top doesn’t suit him.

Not a bad performance from essentially the 2nd XI.

The aways I’ve done this year have been utterly woeful, it’s kind of put me off away games for a while to be honest. If we are to stay up this season it will be down to our home form because I can’t see us picking up many points on the road.

You haven't seen us at home over the last 3 seasons then. We have lost to some seriously awful sides recently.

Of course i'm not for one minute suggestion you fall into the awful category but in my eyes we should win tomorrow. As a Hearts fan I loved Pressley as a player, but I am not convinced he knows what he is doing in the dugout. Wellens is talking the talk this season and hopefully can walk the walk, starting with beating Carlisle tomorrow.

I would have gone but i'm away in Kent and Sussex doing some family visiting duties. Safe journey to the Carlisle fans who are travelling, I went to the Lake District in March via Carlisle and its a fair old journey for you! Unfortunately due to the yellow weather warning we've had to cancel our new 'fanzone' area which was going to have food and drink stalls behind the Don Rogers Stand (another great initiative by the club to get the fans back onside).
