Receiving lots of emails?

UPDATE 01/09/2014: THIS SHOULD NOW BE FIXED. YOU SHOULD NOT RECEIVE ANY EMAILS OF REPLYS TO YOUR THREADS.

If you would like to turn this setting back on, you can do so in your user preferences.

We have been alerted, and have received many emails ourselves from the site when, for example, someone replies to a thread we made. These can become very tedious if you have a thread that ends up having lots of replies.

Unfortunately there is not a lot we can do about it as it's built into the forum software. There is however something you can do about it when you create a new thread. The forum software automatically subscribes you to watch threads you create, so when you create a thread, below your body of text there is a few checkboxes.

You can see here that you can un-tick the relevant boxes so that you don't receive email alerts.

For now I would leave watch this thread ticked as this sends you alerts when someone has replied to your thread, just without the annoying emails all the time.

Is there anything in the admin panel that would allow you to close that option off? I have ran forums before for various different things, and always been able to change the options over a little. May be there, you just may not have found it!

I have looked for add ons, plug ins and even the support forums, a search of the ACP too doesn't return anything of note.

I don't know what forum board you use for the background on this, as I haven't been on the scene for a couple of years, but normally they are heavily buried somewhere.
Have you looked to see if other people using the same message board have the same issue? And how did they solve it?

We are using xenforo software and the only suggests I have found are the above, to disable them yourselves. Incidentally you can do this globally for everything in your user preferences, but unfortunately no default option to.

update: I have found out how to set it to default to new users. This won't change existing users, but I'm about to run a query to change everyones to not receive email whenever someone replies to a thread.

Awesome stuff mate! Don't think I was much technical help, but at least it is one less thing for people to complain about :p
