We've released Kristian Pearce. Fucking hell, Someone will get a very good CB if at this level.
What the heck happened to Otis Khan at Mansfield - got quite a few goals at Yeovil and was class when we had him from Sheff United a few seasons before.

So Mansfield have retained 13 and are in discussion with 7 others
Doesn't leave much room for manoeuvre given the probable financial constraints of Covid but then again all clubs will be in the same boat

In fairness that's assuming they'll be paid anywhere near the same.

I'd take an educated guess that nearly all those renewals will come with significant pay cuts given the current climate.

Yes I agree with you, was more saying that's 20 players potentially on the books ,most squads will be trimmed to the bare bones .
Maynard clearly will be on top dollar

That’s what I was thinking. Along with a salary cap there is a squad maximum also being mooted. I reckon Mansfield’s squad for next season is already in place. Bloody hell!

I genuinely reckon we're looking at a max of 18 senior players and Academy prospects under the age of 21 not counting towards the cap.

Wasn’t Ekpiteta the one who had an absolute mare in the 3-3 against us first half? If so assumed he’d be out the door first!
He was, but he was excellent for us in the National League and managed to pull himself together as the season went on. He is only 23 and his first taste of league football.

Also I'm fairly sure his agent told him not to sign another deal with us, because he has stalled all season after we rejected a bid from Rotherham for him last summer.

Did you give everyone a contract when you got promoted? Second season is where you usually get rid of 95% of your NL players left.

I can probably guess the answer to this, but how've Angol and JMD done?
We gave a few longer deals to players whom helped us up yes - Some backfired, like Dean Brill who has since retired and Sam Ling who is always injured.

Angol is talented but his attitude isn't good enough tbh, something I'd already been made aware of. I'd sell him if given the option, too much of a luxury player.

JMD has been excellent for us since we signed him 18 months ago. Ten goals and around 10-15 assists in that time. If he could screw his head on better and fine tune some of the things he does, then I see no reason why he can't play higher. I prefer him playing in the number ten role behind the strikers, he enjoys having a free role going forward. Scored a few belters for us as well, in a recent online poll our fans voted him as our POTY.

Came in, Started well scored 2 on his debut I think, was doing well and got injured. Never got his place back and hasn't really broke in since. In the games he has played though he's not stood out a great deal, except pre season.

They're all kids, the only senior players we are in negotiations with are Riley and Maynard.

Knowles, Sinclair and Law are all youth aswell

The players we’ve let go is right - maybe apart from Pearce.

Still dealing with the hangover of Evans unfortunately, it was always going to happen the minute we got caughlan and he was clearly unimpressed with the players we had etc etc.

I dare say many on the list will have known weeks if not a month or 2 ago.

He’ll hate been working hard on who he wants to bring in, and I wonder if Mansfield, like many others will become more reliant on loan players next season given the new reality we face.

All in all, pretty happy with how that list goes.

I am surprised we kept Benning given that White and Preston are gone. I put them in the same category. Good players but form/injury issues. I thought Pearce might have done enough to prove himself worthy of another deal. Danny Rose seems to have matured/got his act together over the last season. Fair play to him, I said to release him last year but agree he deserves another year.

Where he’s earned it on merit I wonder if part of that was down to the gaffer being unsure about Maynard.

Good point. As the only LB and these being a little harder to come by, maybe Mal got a reprieve too.

Khan is probably someone we would look at as he's been here before and assistant manager Peter Atherton will also likely know all about him with his Sheffield connections.
I believe we tried to get Andy Cook off you on loan this last season before he went to Tranmere so we might keep an eye on him too - even though he's still on contract with you - again he's been here 4 times before (twice on loan and we signed him twice) and got 47 goals in 87 matches during his last spell.

You'd fancy Salford to have a go at Maynard and Pearce. They'll be one of the few clubs who are well placed to hoover up these decent released players.

Yeah, wouldn’t be surprised at all.

I think Radford will go for it again, maybe more chance now - and coughlan seems a better bet than Evans or my friend flitcroft.

Regarding Maynard we would want to keep him for sure, it just depends if that circus of a club blow us out the water.

Surprised by JMD (not in the NL but in L2), he must have realised he was in danger of spiralling down the leagues because his experience here and at Coventry didn't go well.

Pearce could quite easily pick up a L1 club, hope he does too - 100% good enough.

I still think that’s going to come back to haunt us. It’s either a rash move or there’s something else involved.

Whoever replaces him is going to get a rough ride as the fans will expect him to be as good (appreciate last season wasn’t his best - like so many of them) but he was worthy of another year on the face of things.

He was the best defender in the league only a year ago, it’s the only thing on the list I seriously disagree with but GC is the gaffer, and we gotta back him.

I’ll probably say Maynard is more likely to leave than stay, because GC will not want him on the sane wages even if Radford will permit it.

Gotta keep in mind potential limits to spending though, Salford will suffer more than anybody in that case.

Well of course and I will, but it could come back and really haunt him - everyone I’ve spoken to in person/Whataapp or whatever have all said we should have kept him.

So either the manager doesn’t rate him - which is gamble - or something’s gone on that the fans don’t know about.

Yeah possibly, I think it'll be phased in over two or three years so they might get away with it.

That was supposed to rear its head this week but I've not seen anything on it.
