Is Luke James likely to step up to L2? If he's back up to the standard he was when he was here, I'd love him to come back!

James problem is he doesn’t score enough and rarely looks like he is going to, he had one good breakout season with us and we cashed in, he just runs around a lot, often head down, he draws fouls, it’s all he does, no great loss for me, I hope we don’t offer him anything.

slightly gutted for Tharme, one of the many young players who was lauded as the next best thing but never given a chance, fully expect him to sign for at least another team at this level, if not Tranmere, given he is a Wirral Lad

of the others released, i would only have said Lawlor was worth keeping, but if we re-sign Kennedy instead i will be happy

interesting that Bobby Grant has another contract, he had a clause last season that he could self exercise, which he did, but did not realise it was for 2 years! hopefully he will move on to pastures new

Nothing at all from daggers on our released list but at least we know we have superstar striker Joe Quigley contracted for another year. How does Peter ‘I managed England once’ Taylor sleep at night.

Our online club shop reopened today and the bars open Saturday. Guess it’s just a massive waiting game until the season start date is announced. I can see reduced crowds (no problem for most) at the very least.

Our manager has said today it would be "ill-timed" to issue a retained list whilst we're in the play-offs.

Update from our owners @sportsholdings on twitter:

Board of Directors and Investor Zoom meeting yesterday for @Dag_RedFC to discuss the upcoming season with Steve Thompson & Daryl McMahon! Even if the UK won't let us Americans back to Victoria Road for a while, we plan on doing all we can to get promoted in 2021! #COYD

Going for it......

No news from us either on retained lists, Dean Brennan was meeting the playing squad individually last Tuesday and made reference that 4-5 players would likely be let go. The club are hosting a Champions celebration event (in line with pubs/bars being allowed to re-open) this Saturday so it may well be a case of us finding out who's been released then with an official statement the following day.

The club must have read my post this morning.

Players already under contract for 2020-21:

Connor Stevens
Michael Phillips

Players with contract extensions triggered for 2020-21:

Dennon Lewis
Jacob Mendy
Michee Efete

Players who have agreed to 1 year contracts for 2020-21:

Ashley Charles
Billy Clifford
Connor Smith
Danny Green
Jake Sheppard
Jerome Okimo

Players who have returned to their parent clubs:

Aston Oxborough
Olly McCoy

Players TBD:

George McLennan
Kavan Cotter
Kreshnik Krasniqi
Moses Emmanuel
Reece Beckles-Richards
Ross Lafayette
Ryan Sellars
Sanchez Watt

Happy with that, the midfield was by far the best in the South last season so to have them all tied down for next season is encouraging.

No goalkeepers or strikers signed up as of yet, the former I imagine would be a loanee similar to the route we took with Aston Oxborough last season (if he's not within Norwich's matchday squad next year then he'll be on loan in the EFL).

Maidenhead departures:

Chris Dunn
Joe Ellul
Freddie Grant
James Akintunde
Shamir Fenelon
Josh Kelly
Danny Whitehall
Aron Davies

Expecting Kelly to sign for a L1/L2 club. He is a big loss but if his contract is up there's no reason for him to stay at this point. Whitehall was on trial at Killie a few weeks ago, don't know what his current situation is. I don't rate his all round game but anyone who can finish and take set pieces like he does will always be in demand.

Ellul is a solid defender at this level if a little crude. Odd if we didn't offer him a new deal.

Dunn and Grant looked OK when I saw them but were injury prone. A fit Fenelon is a great player at this level but his injury record is horrific and it wouldn't surprise me to see him retire or drop down several levels.

Akintunde and Davies both out of their depth in the NL, expect them to drop to step 2/3.

A bit worried there are no additions to the squad.
Would like to have kept Ellul and Kelly was never going to stay for ever.

Ours has been announced, and pretty much as expected really:

Under Contract:

Dior Angus, Bradley Barry, Patrick Brough, Joel Dixon, Lewis Hardcastle, Sam Hird, Josh Kay, Morgan Penfold, Scott Quigley, John Rooney, Jason Taylor

Offered terms of re-engagement:

Connor Brown, Jack Hindle

Released:

Matthew Elsdon, Josh Granite, Byron Harrison, Jonathan Saltmer, Luke Simpson, Mark Waddington

Returned To Parent Clubs:

Olly Dyson (Huddersfield Town), Daniel Jones (Salford City), Matthew Platt (Blackburn Rovers), Jamie Soule (West Bromwich Albion), Tom White (Blackburn Rovers), Jack Vale (Blackburn Rovers)

I'm guessing Hindle will be offered a short term deal to allow him to compete in the playoffs for Gateshead.

Granite knackered or just not up to league footy?

Probably doesn't have the ability to make the step up but where he may fall short of the best defenders in the NL in terms of ability he certainly makes up for it in sheer commitment.

He struggled with injuries this year, one of them caused by him staying on with a dislocated shoulder after we'd used all three subs and had lost someone else to injury minutes before!

I hope he gets picked up by someone in the NL or the upper echelons of the NL North as he could definitely do a job.

He'd slot in well at a Stockport or Wrexham - never gives less than 100%.

we may have to reel our expectations in somewhat, i can see us re-signing Kennedy and Granite may be another solid signing ;)

Been a great player for us overall but maybe it's time to move on. Getting on now but still as solid as any LB down here I'd say. I could see him being a manager somewhere in the future.

Ours has just been released. Matty Brown being transfer listed is very controversial. We are doing another day a week of training and it sounds like he can't commit. Is there any northern part-time/hybrid clubs in this league? Suspect, he will go there if so. Might end up back at Chester if not. Suspect Redshaw may go there too. Started well but went off the boil.

We are keeping a few controversial players but on the whole it's roughly what i expected

Players under contract & or offers made
Sam Johnson
Jack Earing
Niall Maher
Jay Benn
Nathan Clarke
Michael Duckworth
Jeff King
Charlie Cooper
Josh Staunton
Danny Williams
Cameron King
Jamie Allen
Tobi Sho-Silva

Players released
Will Appleyard
Jerome Binnom – Williams
Liam Nolan
Josh MacDonald
Jack Redshaw

Players who have been placed on the transfer list
Jacob Hanson
Matty Brown

The hints are that we’ll retain our forward line, with two very promising teens coming through we’ll have six if all are retained despite losing Asante, so I can’t see Redshaw coming here. Central defence and midfield are the areas we’ll make signings.

Brown would be good, think he is good mates with Kev Roberts, just had a horrific injury record with us last time.

What’s up with Nolan? He’s always looked good against us in the past, not had a good year?

Brown would be a very good signing for you. Had a few injury issues with us but been a very good captain and a rock at the back. I’d say it’s almost certain he will end up with you if you need a centre back. Like you say, mates with Kevin Roberts and Chester is pretty local for him.

Nolan was disappointing to be honest. The game just seemed to bypass him. Only passed backwards and sideways and didn’t really offer anything productive. He was better than Charlie Cooper though, no idea why we’ve kept him.

Retained:
  • Ben Hedley
  • David Atkinson
  • Louis Laing
  • Alex Storey
  • Michael Liddle
  • Jordan Watson
  • Will Hatfield
  • Joe Wheatley
  • Sean Reid
  • Justin Donawa
  • Jamie Holmes
  • Jarrett Rivers
  • Adam Campbell

Offered new deal but not take up:
  • Omar Holness - good attacking midfielder at this level, but lacks the positioning to play CM in a 2, was offered terms but seemed to be holding out for trials with pro clubs in the summer. No idea where that leaves him now but no doubt our initial offer will now have expired.
  • Luke Trotman- after love island was never likely to stay having moved to London. Pretty widely accepted we offered him a deal to be due compensation should he move to another club knowing he wouldn't accept our offer.
  • Stephen Thompson - one who's been with us since the northern league days, was offered reduced terms and chose to leave
  • Terry Galbraith - one who's been with us since the northern league days, was offered reduced terms and chose to leave

Released/Loan ended:
  • Simon Ainge
  • Chris Elliott
  • Liam Connell
New additions:
  • Nicky Hunt - following his release from Crewe
  • Luke Charman - following his release from newcastle U23's
We're still in need of a GK but expecting one to come in on loan from the likes of Boro or Newcastle, so would expect that to happen just before the season starts. Other than that another forward might be a bit of a luxury.

Elliott Johnson has announced that he's off. If we can't keep hold of a starting player and academy graduate with over 250 appearances then we're likely to see an exodus.

If he fancies a trip up north for at least a season, we are looking for a left back

Ricardo Santos next to leave Barnet, would be a league one defender if it wasn't for the injuries and we would of definitely made a profit on the 100k we spent on him. As is can see him rocking up somewhere like Dag & Red if they are going for the title

There’s been talk of him going to Bolton although I’m not sure how serious it is.
Goodbye to Mauro Vilhete (sob!), David Tutonda, Simeon Akinola, Charlee Adams, Medy Elito and Shaquille Coulthirst too.
