Reremnart, I take your point about how to describe our exit from L1, though whichever way it’s named the consequence was the same.

There has been no conclusive evidence that Tranmere voted to end the season, so unless that is provided, will continue to believe that we voted against.

Well, I presume if you’re after some kind of compo the EFL will know how you voted, so if nothing is forthcoming you can guess why.

I’d say it’s either yourselves or Ipswich telling porkies. Not that the owners would be honest about it.

To be fair it could very well be Ipswich. They knew they had little chance of making the play offs if the season carried on.

The consequences of demotion are worse than those of missing out a chance of making the play-offs and arguably missing out on an automatic promotion spot (as could still make up for it by getting up through the play-offs). Logic would suggest TRFC did vote to play on.

No indication that there will be any compensation for our demotion. However if for some unfathomable reason TRFC did vote to end the season, can see a legal minefield where we are denied any available recompense on the basis of that vote, yet teams in L1 and L2 who voted to end the season are able to benefit through competing in the play-offs.

Just seen Nicola Palios on Twitter has said (albeit not explicitly) that Tranmere voted to carry on. My money is on Ipswich. Their statement was farely vague.

Tbf, I tweeted about this and got an emphatic answer from her.

Yeah I know for a fact that we voted to play on and Ipswich were the ones that voted to end the season. Find it odd that they decided that mind

Im not the one making pathetic threats about putting someone (who had nothing to do with your relegation) in hospital from behind an anonymous name on a forum. Suppose having your username backwards is apt, clearly as backwards as they come. In fact you're probably one of those Tranmere knuckle draggers making death threats to Vince and his family on twitter. Embarrassing.
Well fuck me, I'd never even noticed that.

It was a great amendment from Ipswich - if you want to play in the PO's, you should be allowed. Basically a free for all.

The article in The Atlantic ridiculed them quite nicely.

Maybe the Tranmere fans having a hissy fit should be asking themselves why the club is being in such a way that relegation leads to 20 redundancies. Doesn't seem very sensible and sustainable to me.

My original comment on this was; "I was surprised both at the extent it’s cost us; £1 million for relegation before games behind closed doors is factored in and the 20 July redundancies." A bald statement on what we've been told rather than a hissy fit!

Rovers did have the funds to play out the rest of the season, so you might infer that other clubs who hadn't would be in a worse position financially. One of the reasons your chair voted the way she did was to protect other teams who couldn't afford to play the season out. Too early to be judgemental, let's see how others fare first.

Out of interest, do you think Tranmere would have voted to carry on playing if they were in AFC Wimbledons position?

Tbf, it was every man for himself when it came to voting. But it had to be that way to protect the EFL from any legal blowback.

But they are all on social media playing the moral high ground, yet if Posh/Rotherham, and Tranmere/Wimbledon were in reversed positions, you can bet your ass MacAnthony and the Palios' would have wanted to shut up shop for the season...

I don't even follow any of them yet they are always popping up on my twitter feed.

Turn it on it’s head. If any other club was in their position they’d be kicking up a stink, too.

I’ve moaned about them on here - mainly because they convinced themselves that they were being replaced by L2’s PO winner, which was ludicrous. That and they thought they were certain to stay up if the games were played out.

If they had stuck to just pointing out how unfair it was, I’d have been on board with them.

The clubs moaning about this are forgetting that this is in line with the articles of association of the EFL. That all 72 clubs get an equal vote, so they will never be turkeys voting for Christmas. The EFL should try and move to an independent ExCo, but I guess also won't vote for their votes to be taken away!

What the game needs is a complete overhaul of the FA and for it to start being the governing body it’s supposed to be in order to make decisions that we have needed since the pandemic started

Of course it's unfair. It would be unfair whatever was done. Void it and clubs like you would be rightly up in arms. Don't void it and have promotion/relegation and someone will feel aggrieved.

Then there was the idea of promotion and no relegation and Tranmere's wondrous 'margin for error' system to keep them up. Both pretty ridiculous. Voiding would make more sense than that.

Tranmere were in the wrong league position at the wrong time. That's pretty much the simple fact.

I'd imagine we would have voted to end the season if the tables were turned. It is what it is. Every club voted with their own best interests at heart as expected including us and I don't blame anyone for doing that.

Looking back on everything, the EFL lacked any authority throughout the process. Pitting clubs against each other was always going to happen the more and more they delayed proceedings. But we know they're inept and that ineptness is going to cause more clubs to follow the likes of Bury and Bolton without getting the latter's fortune.

What's fairer than having a vote of the member clubs and allowing the majority to decide?! Boring now.

Exactly, the EFL have done it so they’ve allowed clubs a vote rather than making the decision for them and the clubs have spoken.

It’s harsh for those affected but legal action is desperate and tragic.

The problem is that the EFL is guided by the members, they can't just make a decision. They seemed too slow and indecisive but they ultimately couldn't make the final decision and can only give a framework for clubs to vote on (and also gave other a chance to put theirs forward as well).

Same in the PL. The PL didn't decide what to do, they offered a framework and it was voted upon with clubs offering their thoughts. The same is happening in the National League in a couple of days as well.

Even the FA can't impact things too much. They have a golden share in the PL so can veto anything, but they don't have that power in the EFL or NL, for example.

Clubs call the shots, not a PL, EFL or NL.

I don’t know if we will take legal action to be honest. Personally I’d move on and put all our focus on recruiting well for a League 2 promotion push. We made a statement saying we’re watching what happens elsewhere whilst getting legal advice but I don’t think we will.

As mentioned, there will always be a feeling of injustice but coming back and getting promotion straight away is the best possible outcome out of all this and might even make everything a bit sweeter! Time to forget about the last couple of months, focus on dealing with Covid and recruiting well, then let our anger galvanise us in a positive way on the pitch.

Yep. And also the EFL Board has people associated to clubs themselves so it’s never fully going to be a fully diplomatic judgement.

Read that one of the board members is quite closely associated to Burton, a club that was in that mid table status of wanting the season done as they’re unaffected for example.

Hardly a convincing argument of bias. The clubs all voted and the majority chose the way forward.

And I’d feel the same, especially as you were starting to put some form of fun together as well. However, given the EFL left it to the clubs the decision made has to be the one that’s final.

Don't think it would have made any difference really.

It's Fleetwood and Burton who have the Chairman on the EFL Board but even with that taken into account, everyone was allowed to pitch their ideas and have them voted on so it was a pretty open vote.

When Barnet were struggling constantly at the bottom of League 2, their chairman Tony Kleanthous was on the board - he had the opportunity to vote four our FL 20 point deduction. No conflict of interest clearly.

The FA are hardly a ringing endorsement of integrity.
