i mean, 8 of the 11 players that defeated west germany in the final were slovak.

the name of the country was part of the nations name Czechoslovakia.

for me it makes no sense that the czechs are the official winners of the tournament.

your thoughts?

Neither, it should be awarded to Czechoslovakia.

This. You can't revise history. Czechoslovakia won the tournament, and since then the countries have gone their separate ways. Barcelona have provided a lot of players to Spain recently, but if the Catalans ever gain independence it won't change the fact that Spain won in 2008, 2010 and 2012. You can't just take the Czechs out - Panenka is probably more famous than anyone else in that side due to his penalty.

If you want to break it down even further then Slovan Bratislava provided 6 of the 11 players, so you could award it to them.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Germany should be awarded another world cup too. They might have won another one if they had all of the East German players to pick from as well. So best let them have another, just to be safe.

We might as well give the 66 world cup to West Ham, while we're at it.

i know what you mean, but i still think its unfair that slovakia do not get the honors they deserved, at least the czechs and slovaks should be allowed to call themselves european champions of 1976

What makes you think they don't? The UEFA website lists Czechoslovakia as the winners. Wikipedia lists Czechoslovakia as the winners. I can't actually find any significant source that just lists the Czechs.

The Slovak FA website lists "The great achievements of Czecho-Slovak football" and "The great achievements of Slovak football" in two separate lists (one is slightly longer than the other...). If the Czechs merge the two into one then it's not really a massive deal, it's just someone bigging up their achievements, which is quite normal.

yeah, wiki lists czechoslovakia, but when you take a look at the czech and the slovakian national football team side, youll only find the title at the czech side

The Czech page makes their history very clear. There is only one mention of this that I can find that lists their best ever performance as "1st 1976", which doesn't appear on the Slovak page. Given that this is the only place to do it, and to read it you would have to go past the historical summary and detailed history - plus the official records already show Czechoslovakia - then I don't think you really need this campaign. Just edit that line on Wikipedia and you've done it.
