What has gone wrong at Stoke?

From stable PL club to League One potentially.

Michael O'Neil probably wishes he'd stayed at Northern Ireland l.

Bad recruitment over a number of years and giving long and expensive contracts to players with awful attitudes which they can't get out of I'd say. The fact Jones and Rowett have both done good jobs before and after being there suggests its not necessarily the manager.

Long may it continue I say. I think if they lose to Barnsley they are done for with their run-in.

Fantastic point for us tonight. At the very least we are giving this a right good go.

Dont know about other Town fans but when Harry Cornick was running on through there I was not expecting that :bg:A shame we couldnt hold on but with the quality they have it was always likely.

5 points from these first 3 is a good return, just a shame those around us keep on winning but at least we are going down swinging.

Like the Vale fan said recruitment.

Not sure but from the outside looking in I maintain that Jones did not have final say on who they brought in last summer seemed like nobody matched his preferred shape at all and few seemed his type to me.

Like a few medicre clubs they thought they could gamble on a few long term contracts as they couldn`t get relegated. The signing of Imbula from Porto`s reserves for £18m and a 5 year contract at 70 k per week being the worst example. Injuries to Shawcross and Butland going from England number 1 to complete liability hasn`t helped either but it is gratifying in some way that money doesn`t always guarantee success in football especially if the money is in the hands of fools like Jon Coates.

Think some of these mid table sides are just going through the motions at the minute, everyone at the bottom seems to be beating them left and right - Huddersfield the latest tonight at Birmingham.

Very frustrating that just as we picked up our form finally, everyone else has.

Saying that Reading are now bound to show up in form on Saturday!

Bummer for Luton.

Great draw at Leeds then 3-0 down to Reading at home.

Stoke big winners ATM.

Absolutely horrendous from us. Did so well to get points In the first 3 but in a game where we needed to play a bit more and go and get the 3 points a bit more we have just capitulated.

Defensively it’s a shambles with the midfield totally over run. Pearson at right back worked in a game where we were going to sit in deep, but with how we lined up today was begging for trouble.

League 1 for us next season I think now, on paper it will still be doable but in reality it’s not going to happen. This was a must win game and we shat the bed I’m afraid.

Thought I would feel a bit nervous for this game but got to say I think I’ve accepted our fate already. Saturday was it for me, we are just playing out the string now I feel.

Just hope we show up for this one.

FFS. Luton couldn't hold on for 5 bloody mins. It's really ''arrivederci '' now for the two clubs.

I couldn't make it in time to watch the whole match but the stats if correct are rather telling I think. 11 corners and 20 attempts on goal for Barnsley.

1-1. Really scrappy game, Barnsley will rue the missed chances of that 2nd quarter of the first half where we were really under the cosh and we will rue the dreadful Cornick miss. Clean through on the goal. How he can score the one at Leeds but contrive to shoot right at the keeper there ive no idea. Had too long to think about it.

Second half I thought we looked comfortable and kept them at arms length until the scrappy goal.

Ah well, pretty much what i expected. Both sides deservedly on there way down I think.

Not having a crowd inside the Kenny is a real real downer for us. We didn’t deserve any more than what we got tonight but the referee was guessing when he gave the corner which resulted in the equaliser. Jones was furious. Doesn’t excuse totally switching off though...

I thought Sluga got a touch as well.

Was our season in microcosm in those few minutes really, gave someone loads of time in a wide area to get the corner in the first place, gave another loads of time on the edge of the area to have a shot and then couldn’t get it clear through a mix of ineptitude and luck.

Then Cornick misses a minute or so afterwards to nicely show why we are going down in a little 2-3 minute spell. Can’t defend and don’t have the quality to create and be ruthless at this level.

Fact of the matter is we haven’t been up to this level all season.

Boro winning at Millwall.

Surely they will have to rule on Sheffield Wednesday soon so they and everyone else knows where their position will be?

Either right in the mire or safe..

So if the point deduction is applied, Wigan are level on points with Luton. Wigan have Barnsley away on Saturday. Winning that would put them a point behind Hull’s and 2 behind Charlton’s current totals. I’d love to see them stay up even if the point deduction happens. Would be amazing.

Think they have Hull and Lutun too.

In their own hands really.

I’d like to see Wigan stay up even with a points deduction too, as the EFL must bear some responsibility for their predicament by failing to scrutinise the new owners properly.

Nah we’ve played them twice already. One of the few sides we have taken 4 points off this season! They have Barnsley, Charlton and Hull though, 3 winnable games in a row.

I think they will get out of it, tough final day fixture at home to Fulham, but they might have nothing to play for but playoff position by then.

A shame that despite clear ability it’s never quite felt right here.

Since the injury against Brentford in the 7-0 I’ve always sensed he hasn’t quite been all in and he hasn’t had that same impact in games for me. We have looked for him to be the main source of creativity and bar the odd flash he hasn’t really hit the mark for me after some real promising performances earlier in the season. His debut, Charlton and Blackburn games he really stood out but struggling to think of any post that hamstring injury.

Good ability but not the right player for us and our circumstances, needed a group of solid and steady championship players around him I think and we couldn’t give him that platform.

He’ll go to a decent championship side next season and do well for himself I think if he can stay fit.
