Couldnt see this anywhere sorry if it's been mentioned before.

Seen online that Edgeley Park could be demolished unless the council buys out the stadium due to the owners of the stadium being offered 2million by some land developers? if this is true it could be worrying times for county?

The council basically sat back and watched while we were in admin so asking them for help is pointless. I can't see it being demolished though, I don't know why, just a feeling. The story might not even be true.

It's bullshit perpetuated by the failed PID people.

By these people we have been told:
We've been told beforehand that there has been this mysterious 3rd party wanting Edgeley Park for a supermarket and houses.
We've been told that their bid will bypass the Asset of Community Value hold placed on the stadium

Their bid was basically rejected by the co-op board and universally ridiculed on Marionsboard because they think we could get double the amount of season tickets sales we get now on /double/ the cost of the season tickets which would be enough to fund a mortgage on Edgeley Park...this mortgage provider somehow being Brian Kennedy. (When did he become a building society?).

Now after this, an article appears in the local paper claimed to be from an 'anonymous' source. It's interesting the only people who have heard these 3rd party rumours are the ones who had a vested interest in trying to stage a sort of coup over both the Supporters' Co-Op board and the club itself.

Good luck with all that. Who is your nearest graded ground that you could try to get a groundshare with?

:err: Seriously mate, you need to speak to the Chester fans about making plans to kill off what's left of your club. The sooner you reform, the sooner you'll be back where you belong.

I said this years ago, we'd be better off forming a phoenix club but we've slowly started to turn things around recently. Plus it's not a guarantee we'd end up like Chester, we could end up like Rushden and Diamonds.

It's written on the walls that we would do a Scarborough not a Chester if we did reform!

Though personally I'm not sure I like the fact of scrapping and going again. I know at this point it's not even a massive deal in league structure as we're probably only two divisions below where we are at now, but I feel like phoenix clubs are for when you have no other option or the rug is pulled under you, not for just starting again because it's a bit hairy.

That said, despite my other post seeing the SMBC notice (assuming it is Edgeley Park) of a EGM on Wednesday is slightly more worrying. Think I might have been a bit hasty to dismiss the MEN article as bs. Still could be, but I get the feeling we're being used as a kicking bag for someone's own ends rather than a genuine bid and proposal to demolish Edgeley Park.

Macc, Altrincham, and probably Woodley Sports if they removed the artificial pitch.

I'm no County fan, but I think it would be a great shame to see EP demolished. I lived in Cheadle Heath as a kid, and I also worked around Shaw Heath for years, and it would be very odd for EP to not be there. I hope it goes well at the council meeting.

If the EGM does regard Edgeley Park, one positive is the council are discussing whether to save it or not, that's something I wouldn't have thought would happen. Still sceptical whether they will actually do it, but it does suggest that the Council aren't going to throw us completely under the bus.

Would be sad to see one of the rare non-league grounds I have attended just disappear. I do feel for County fans as the downfall has been pretty brutal and hope to see them in the Conference (or do we say National League these days?) in the next few years.
Plus they have amazing pubs around the ground. Just awesome.

You mean that you wouldn't be guaranteed to have Edgely Park to play at? Or something else?

It's a massive advantage for clubs like Chester and Hereford to be able to have the same ground for next to no rent when reforming. It takes away all the headaches of ground grading etc if you know you have a ground that could be league standard.

  • @TFitzgeraldMEN: Stockport council confirm that Wed's executive report recommends that 'subject to due diligence', council will become Edgeley Park owner.

Stockport Council press release:

An opportunity has arisen for Stockport Council to purchase the Edgeley Park Football Ground from the current owners, Cheshire Sport. The Council’s Executive will receive a report on Wednesday recommending that, subject to due diligence, the Council will become owner of the ground.

This is a genuinely commercial arrangement which would enable the establishment of a landlord-tenant relationship between the Council and Stockport County Football Club. Wednesday’s decision would be to purchase a land asset on a cost neutral basis and will therefore not cost Council Tax Payers a penny.

The Council will not, at any stage, be providing financial support to the football club but hope to purchase the ground in order to provide the stability for the team to remain in Stockport and for the club to progress in securing their own longer term future and footballing success.

All political groups on Stockport Council have come together to support this proposal so that the club can stay in Stockport, close to the vibrant local communities of which it is part and to contribute to raising the profile of our thriving Borough.

Councillors in Stockport will monitor the proposals as they develop and reserve the right not to proceed with the purchase if the deal ceases to represent the best interests of Council Tax Payers and of our town.

Cllr Sue Derbyshire
Leader of Stockport Council and the
Liberal Democrat Group

Cllr Alex Ganotis
Leader of the Labour Group

Cllr Syd Lloyd
Leader of the Conservative Group

Cllr Peter Burns
Leader of the Independent Ratepayers Group

Positive news. Now to pray duedil goes through.

Am I allowed to have an opinion on Stockport now? On TFF I used to get a warning pretty much every time I posted about them and/or Sir James Gannon.

Council have confirmed the recommendation to bid has been accepted. Probably the best news for SCFC for over 10 years. Hopefully we can get our club back on track. It's been such a long time since we were on track, the rails will feel unfamilar.

Maybe if we're really lucky we can get back to playing teams massive teams like Port Vale.

Good news about the council and Edgeley Park. Enjoyed my trips to Stockport and hope to play you again before too long, though not in Conference North!

Good news for County fans. Now, I'm just off to complain to Stockport MBC about my council tax being used to prop up tinpot football teams, patronised by 3000 local residents........

It's not costing tax payers a penny. From a pre-existing fund.

I pleased for County fans (mainly because NY is a Chester legend) and I hope were playing you in 2016/17, unless of course we go up next season, which is not much of a danger.

I recall walking down Castle Street one afternoon in around 1998, when a tall tracksuited man walked past. My mate almost jizzed himself, and blurted out at him "It's Jimmy Gannon!" I didn't have a clue who he was. Gannon appeared unimpressed by the outpouring of emotion.

When's the film coming out?
