What a pointless series. We may as well just call up the fringe players next test.

Quite sad to see how far SL have fallen though. Anyone is going to struggle when a number of key players retire at the same time, but this squad is pathetic. Apart from Matthews, Chandimal and Herath, none of their players get in to any other test side.

I fully agree about Compton it does need addressing but it won't hold us back. The next 3 or 4 years are ours to dominate basically until Jimmy and broad are finished.

Wouldn't go as far as saying we will 'dominate'. Our batting, Cook and Root apart isn't anything special with no-one else averaging near 40:

Hales - 29
Compton - 29
Vince (played 2 tests)
Stokes - 33
Bairstow - 35 - although in great form atm

It wasn't so long ago that we had our whole top seven averaging over 40 - Strauss, Cook, Trott, Bell, Pietersen, Collingwood and Prior.

I know Bairstow has played a fair few tests but his average is only going to go up from here. I'd say the same about Hales too - he's only played 5 tests.

I think Compton's done for anyway. Someone else is gonna get a chance there.

The top 7 of a few years ago were all guys who'd played a whole load of matches - there's no reason why a few of the current lot can't go on to achieve similar numbers.

How about moving Root to 3? I know he's doing well at 4, but finding someone who can bat at 3 is becoming a big issue. Move him back to 4 once Vince is in a position to bat 3, assuming he takes to test cricket.

20 minutes into play and there is wickets falling all around the country.

The two Sri Lankan wickets.

Yorkshire, Leicestershire and Worcestershire all 2 down already.

A day for the bowlers.

Feel sorry for this Sri Lanka side, they're not under-performing, they're just woefully inexperienced - especially to English conditions (which are completely incomparable to anywhere else in the world) and it's not helped by the fact their lineup has such a long tail.

Mendis looks a player though for someone who has only just turned 21.

Obviously a spinners paradise at Taunton, with Batty taking a 'Michelle'

Must be an absolute " Bunsen " leach looking like he's going to run through Surrey this afternoon. Unfortunately they've already got a tidy lead.

Fantastic bowling from our youngsters Jamie Overton and Jack Leach has given Somerset a chance against Surrey. Got to hold it together with the bat now.

Well done Chef.

Elsewhere, DBD gets his 6th 50 in 6 games this season at Canterbury.

Hopefully this season will be a lesson to the powers that be at Somerset that you actually need some bowling to be able to win T20 matches and not just Gayle regardless of how many tickets he sells. The cost of bringing in him, Jaya and Arafat (suspect he's kolpak?) must surely have amounted to 2 good enough international players, does anyone think Davies is good enough? He's batting at 8 and averaging 8... Somerset should have brought in a keeper as overseas player for the year if possible rather than taking the punt. They have the money for Gayle, could you imagine getting AB, de Kock, Wade etc over here for the season or as much of it as possible? The other big part Somerset needed was a bowler, the two I'd have liked to have seen would have been Boult or Southee.

worst T20 side Notts have ever had this I reckon, Sam Wood's barely a cricketer let alone someone who should be batting 3. Dan Christian as the only overseas player, don't care how well he did in Big Bash - when you're selling so many tickets to these home matches you can afford to spend more. Our batting is relying solely upon Wessels and Patel this season in all 3 forms (Read as a reliable safety net at 7 when he's recovered). Fucking pathetic.

Bloody rain cost us yet more points, looks like we will have to beat Essex twice at least.

Standard these days. Friday will be different although we have jonny and root back

I don't know. Our T20 campaign hasn't really got off to the best start. I just hope we don't have to suffer two roses losses in a week.

Jason Roy having a bit of fun by the South Coast.

80 off 45 balls so far...

Yorkshire require over 200 to beat Lancashire - what are Root and Bairstow like at T20?

Well I thought he must be good but wasn't totally sure...

Couple of disappointing results for your boys.

Seems to be a right old mix bag this year.

Good win for Somerset tonight, few weird things though, namely the choice not to give Waller his final over. Gayle was impressive a (very) quickfire 49.
