Has been for years now. Even happening where you wouldn't expect it - a German driver has been competing for the title the last 3 years but the viewing figures in Germany have continued to go down. Normally the success of a driver normally boosts viewership in that country.

This season has been so dull, says a lot that yesterdays race was one of the better ones of the season. That was only because Vettel and Massa were out of position.

Given the money in the sport I hate how boring it is to watch. It is supposed to be the pinnacle of motor racing but i'd have more fun watching 50 year old men go round my local go kart track.

All of this is good news for Formula E which is starting to see a bit of a surge in popularity, doesn't have the best drivers obviously but some recognisable names from the F1 circuit (Trulli, Heidfeld, Piquet JR. etc)) and some half decent circuits that aren't build on money and just appear like 'any other track'.

If they can sort some of their more iffy rules, like the one whereby a driver that receives the most votes by tweet gains a 5 second boost or something like that, I can see it overtaking F1 in popularity unless Ecclestone gets things sorted. Falling out of love with F1 rapid, used to be a staple of my weekend as a younger kid, getting up at 3am to watch the Aussie Grand Prix and all sorts. Can barely muster the energy for a 1pm start these days.

Have to catch the highlights - sounds like a genuine thriller with Hamilton coming from behind to win after Williams made such a good start.

I didn't hear Bernie threatening to scrap the race this year...

Was that because the weather was good?

The weather was good and spoilt it at the same time, it essentially knocked the Williams' out of it but could've given an interesting end if Hamiltons gamble didnt pay off

Williams made their own problems by keeping Bottas behind Massa when he was clearly faster - could have been a different race had it not been for that.

First race this season I've enjoyed from start to finish though, and that first lap was excellent for drama. Weather towards the end was also enjoyable, kudos to Hamilton for making the right call at exactly the right time as well, effectively won him the race without breaking a sweat in the last 5 laps. Just sad that this sort of drama and excitement is an exception rather than the norm.

And Jenson Button. Poor, poor bastard. He couldn't buy a bit of luck at the moment.

Only just thought to look at the F1 page. I am a massive fan, I used to kart and I go to watch races (well, one a year, normally Silverstone). I am going to Spa soon.

I must admit, even the highlights have not been gripping. I do not know what way the sport should go. It is clearly more fun when more teams compete. It is boring having Rosberg and Hamilton out on top every time. Makes qualifying boring as well. We know that (more or less) whoever is first into turn 1 will go on and win.

I would love to see it where whoever is top of the constructors, cannot 'upgrade' their car, including the engine. Something along those lines. It will never happen and it probably isnt a good idea as I literally just thought of it, but something has got to give. When was the last proper constructers battle? Alonso when he was at Ferrari is probably the closest it has been in the last 6/7 years? And even then, it was because the Red Bulls would just break.

Silverstone was a cracking race! Gutted I missed it this year.

The problem with F1 for a while now it seems to be more about money and less about racing. Races are being held where the highest bidder wins with little consideration given about good racing, location or fans.

Rules need to be changed to make it more about the driver and less about the car and don't bow down to the more powerful teams who have too much of a say.

I totally agree. The money isnt given out fairly either which just does not make any sense. It is like in Spain where Barca and Real Madrid get their own TV deals and makes loads. Predictably, they win the league most years. Same in Formula 1, you get 6 top teams deciding the fate while the smaller team who earn less, have to try to keep up.

I would hate to see the f1 go artificial though. DRS is one thing, I do not want anything else that boosts drivers/

Sadly money does talk - if Bernie had his way the British GP wouldn't even exist and we are one of the major heartlands of motorsport as proven by the crowds that go to the F1 weekend.

Indeed he showed there was no sentiment in F1 when he dropped the French GP which had been around since the early days and was the country that practically invented the sport.

This is a bit embarrassing from Rosberg. He's not got anywhere near the two Ferrari's in front of him and Lewis, who dropped down to 10th after a disastrous first lap, is now catching him.

This was an ideal opportunity to make up some points after Hamilton's fuck up but he could end up losing out.

Well that certainly worked in Rosberg's favour. Hamilton had a mare there but he's only for himself to blame.

Calamitous performance from Lewis really but he's got away with it.

Cracking race though.

Yeah great race. Don't know what to make of Rosberg, clearly a quick driver but does cause a few problems for himself.

He's just far too conservative to be a champion. It says it all that he wanted the same tyres as Hamilton to fend him off rather than going for softs and going after Vettel.

An eventful race!

Red Bull were pretty competitive all weekend.

Bad race for Williams.

Two good races on the trot, McLaren's in the points....and Maldonado in the wars....suppose some things do always stay the same.

Great race to watch, hard to keep up with it at times. Won me some money though, had Vittel to win and Ricciardio to come on the podium.

Hamilton went back to the Hamilton of old, where he loses his head then tries to hard. He is very lucky that Rosberg got the puncture. Rosberg is known for being very conservative. He struggled massively all weekend.

Felt sorry for Kimi though, drove very well to get nothing for it.

That tyre blowing for Vettel could have been pretty nasty!

Good races from Grosjean and Perez.

Pretty uneventful race apart from Vettel's blow out, which he isn't happy about.

Here's hoping Justin Wilson pulls through after his accident yesterday.

Normality resumed at McLaren.

Poor race really, which is a pity as I love Spa.

Not watched a race in ages but watched yesterdays. Disappointing day for Mercedes. I used to really hate Vettel but he's grown on me.
Just heard that Button's set to retire at the end of the current season and is expected to make an announcement before this weekend in Japan.
