After a poor second half to the season which has seen us drop form playoff hopefuls to the bottom half of the table Alan Lord has resigned from the managerial post. He will take up the "director of football" role where he will mainly have the responsibility of building the foundations of the club's development structure, as well as running the profootball academy, in association with SCFC

I have supported Lord for the majority of his tenure but the results and performance haven't been good enough since the turn of the year. The midfield has got weaker as the season has progressed, while we have a decent set of strikers they are all far to similar and we lack pace and power up top just as we do throughout the rest of the team. I'm glad we have kept Lord on in a role that he is more suited to as he has been a fantastic servant to the club and will prosper in his new role without a doubt.

Plenty of potential options to takeover as the new manager, which makes a pleasant change from when we usually find ourselves in this situation. Gary Lowe is out of contract at Hyde, Kevin Wilson is leaving Ilkeston and Flitcroft is another out of contract at Chorley, though we would obviously have to see whether they get promoted. Liam Watson has only recently joined Stalybridge but with Conference North promotions with two seperate clubs on his C.V he has to be an option surely and of course a big section of the fans want Gannon back for round three.

It's criminal that a club of Stockport County's size has been replaced by the likes of Alfreton in Conference Premier. Hopefully you'll return soon as the Northern sub-500 crowd types get flushed out.

I would hope so though the Conference North is brim full of tinpot bank rolled teams at the moment so it isn't going to be easy. A change in manager was needed though and hopefully we will appoint the right man for the job. Got to honest I haven't really got a favourite but looking at the list of potential managers leaves me optimistic.

:bang:Doh!

Tbf my attention span isn't long enough to be arsed reading the whole op.

Watson would still be a good option though, his track record proves he knows exactly what it takes to get out of that league. If not him then how about Jimmy Harvey? The man deserves another crack at management in a decent post imo.

Neil Young will get you out of that league. Give him a call.
Another good shout.
Young, Lowe, Wilkin and possibly Watson all available and with Conference North promotions on their C.V. A very hard decision to make if it was between them four for example.

I think it would have to be between Young and Wilkin. Don't know if you're full time or not but that could rule out Young.

Any reason why?
Part time currently.
I just think they would both be more comfortable in the role with a club the size of Stockport. I know Wilkin didn't do well at a bigger club with Wrexham but I think he had a lot of other pressures to contend with i.e. the old pros in the dressing room and the unrealistic expectations due to the fact Wrexham had recently been close to a return to the football league.

Young would almost certainly get you up. The problem we had was that he came unstuck in the conference premier but he would have learnt a lot from that and I think he'd be in a much better position to keep a team up in this league now. Only issue is if you wanted to go back to full time when you get back up; he has a good, secure job outside football so he can't commit to management full time.

I think the idea is to look to going full time when back in the Conference but quite frankly we just need to try and get the first part done because we have been nowhere near so far. With Wilkin you can look at his struggles at the big club but then again you could also look at how he got Nuneaton promoted on probably a similar budget to ours and how maybe he is suited to part time management. Looking at the other two, Watson has done it at more than one club though he obviously blotted his copy book with how bad Telford were once promoted and with Gary Lowe it worries me that he will try and recreate that Hyde team and the league is a hell of a lot stronger now though again a very impressive record.

Whilst Young and Wilkin on paper have the credentials to take a team out of that league, I'd suggest it's a whole lot harder now than it was when we got out and when took Nuneaton out. Not suggesting they wouldn't do well, it's just not a given, especially with how tough that league looks next season.

A very difficult decision and a very difficult job for anyone that goes in.

The way Watson talked about his players earlier this season would rule him out for me. Yes the team was probably under performing but some of the blame surely had to lie with him. Instead of looking for a solution he just openly criticised individuals which obviously wasn't going to help matters. Unprofessional to say the least.

Kevin Wilson who is to leave Ilkeston at the end of the season is another option. His lack of Conference North experience may go against him but he has worked wonders at Ilkeston and is extremely good at finding great young talent
