Figure there are going to be more than a fair share of views on shit refereeing so why not one thread for it.

Today for example, a high boot in the face of one of our players, very similar to what Freeman got sent off for on the opening day and the ref doesn't even give a yellow card, later an ugly elbow to the face and initially it looked like the ref wasn't going to book him either, think he bowed to crowd pressure a bit and gave a yellow. A very cynical foul by a defender literally having both arms around Kodjia holding him back from a through ball could on another day have gone differently, yes it was a good 30 yards from goal, but Kodjia is very fast and you'd back him in a foot race. But the inconsistency was horrendous.

So over to you guys as well, got any more examples of referee displays where you think a blind man could probably do a better job?

BCFC moaning about today's ref!

Not sure I'm reading this...

Not one decision went our way today. Worst was two bookable challenges for behind as we broke, he lets us play on and it comes to nothing but then "forgets" to go back and book either.

Let City players get away with shirt tugging all over the middle of the park. Penalised us for every minor discretion. That's the way it is for us away from home, and I accept that we'll never get those marginal ones, but we got nothing out of today's.

TBH i can't even be bothered to complain about refs anymore, they are pretty much always terrible and you have to play through it.

That's partly what I mean about inconsistency though, if a ref is consistent all the way I'd tend to not have an issue, but you'd see something happen a minute or two earlier happen and then not penalised. He didn't penalise you often when you're defenders were all over Wilbraham or Kodjia, not a snipe at your players or anything as I expect every team to do it. Incidentally I commented to the guy next to me in league 1 those things were called, but haven't see in yet in the championship.

Trevor Kettle.

End thread.

How he's still reffing i do not know, worst referee by a country mile, we had him at Barnsley once and sent 3 of our players off and Mick Harford who was our manager, also gave Barnsley a goal were it was nowhere near crossed the line, he was that bad i remember he had to be escorted down tunnel by a shit load of police cos everyone was gunning for him, awful awful ref.

I raise you Andy D'Urso.

Didn't think our ref was too bad today tbh. One of those games where there was a lot of needle, leaving an elbow in pulling back off the ball etc, from both sides. Wouldn't say he was inconsistent just pretty lenient in general.

Can see why MK get a lot of decisions against them though, as they're so unsubtle about it. Not what you call streetwise

I thought yesterday's ref was fine.

And if we are comparing the referreeing team vs Bristol City vs MK Dons then I'm afraid the refs were the only Championship standard on show.

That's basically what happened last Saturday.

 The game at your place the year you went down to L1 was one I had in mind. Truly laughable (well for us at least) how incompetent he was

That the game he sent off Doherty/gave you a penalty for an amazing last-ditch tackle then ignored a blatant penalty for us in the second half when Orr (?) took Drury down? The one at your place the season before is one that sticks in my mind. Injury time, looking like we'd earned the point we deserved, a Bristol City player handballs but D'Urso awards him the free-kick and you score from it.

Our defence is still as pathetic at defending set pieces as it was then

Yup that's the one. Couldn't believe our luck in the away end. You then proceeded to batter us for the rest of the game yet somehow we won 2-1.

Brooker

No memory of the free kick award, just the goal. Undeserved as you say, but that was a feature of that season, nicking 1-0 wins with a late goal. The spirit of that side was immense.

That put us top of the Championship at the end of March, and was the moment we all genuinely believed we were actually going to do it. But sadly the rest is history :(

I think the refs I've seen have been poor this season.

But I also think as a team who've come up from League One, we aren't street-wise. The ex-prem teams know all the tricks, and are stronger when they need to be (when they are hassling us off the ball) and lightweight when they think they can get a free kick.

I did think MKD got away with a few yesterday, but then so did we (Bryan late tackle, Kodjia off the ball kick - in fairness McFadzean shouldn't have been on the pitch).

Just got to get on with it. I can sense a bit of siege mentality kicking in and that might be what it takes to get a result v Forest.

I see Lennon is slagging Drysdale off. No surprise, He is as biased as they come. Reffed us a good 5/6 times now and has lost the plot in 5 of them!

The fact that even the Wolves fans could see how biased he was is surely a massive indication of how bad he was.

Don't think he was biased, just made mistakes.
Reminds me of that old adage that it's a pity all the blokes who can run the country properly are driving cabs.

Refs make mistakes because, unlike Preston fans, they aren't perfect. Even though they try hard, it's impossible for there to be 100% consistency between different refs, and it's impossible for a human being not to make a mistake during a fast-moving game of football. Unless it's Blackpool Huddersfield.

Every week some players will be sent off unfairly, some players will get a yellow card unfairly, while others will escape punishment after committing heinous on-pitch crimes. It happens for and against every club in the world. Trouble is we only remember the awful refereeing against us and, astonishingly, believe the ref is right when we benefit! And on the odd occasion when it's crystal clear our player got away with it, we then justify it with that well-known legal construct of "two wrongs always make a right" and that "he fucking deserved it".

Every season you win some, you lose some because of match officials. Move on. If you dislike it that much, then put your unerring perfection and staggering personal physique to good use and become a referee.

But also remember that refs and match officials are ordinary people and they and their families don't deserve the verbal and written abuse they get from many people.

Drysdale was pretty shit to be fair, QPR player fouls one of our lads, ref gives a freekick to QPR, my QPR mate just looked at me and said, at least Drysdale is consistent (following on from two fouls on pisano and (can't remember who it was), and gave no yellow cards from two prteyy bad challenges. But, i wouldn't want to be a referee

Great post Herts, moaning about referees is my least favourite thing in football. It would be nice to be able to have a sensible discussion about officiating but it's impossible without it being derailed by tedious complaints.

And in every other case I would agree with you. I refereed for 4 years, I know it's difficult and a thankless task. Kettle was BLATANTLY giving ridiculous decisions to wind up the crowd and make the game all about him. It was unbelievable. The crowd was massively on his back already and he was just giving the softest fouls against us and letting worse go for you. He's a cheat and it's not the first time he's done it apparently.
