I think this is why I don't like this sort of set up very much (indeed, I am generally minded to avoid such events these days). There are just too many questions purely designed to trip people up. It's fine up to a point - you expect a would-be PM to be quizzed on perceived weak aspects of their policy platform - but the combative stuff is just liable to make people defensive and lead them to prevaricate rather than deliver an honest answer and it ultimately makes for quite an unsatisfying watch. Dunno that anyone ever comes out of it any more enlightened.

The craziest bit is that we don't own the trident missile system and they are sent back to the US for maintenance. We are spending a fortune on something we have no real control of. Regardless of whether you think we need it.

The more I've thought about it, the more I feel as though Corbyn's biggest weakness is he tries to explain more nuanced positions in formats they're not suited for. He could have deflected the nuke stuff by simply stating he is willing to respond to threats with appropriate force where necessary, and theoretically if that response was nuclear then so be it, it's not betraying his position and it stops them coming back with it time and time again, same with the IRA/Hamas etc stuff, he tries to explain on a platform where time isn't his friend and he needs to just get the information across in far punchier fashion.

There's a time and a place for nuance, the very nature of these Q&As, the time constraints, the mass nature of different topics etc doesn't suit explaining a nuanced position in depth, he really just needs to have some punchy replies to prevent being bogged down in people trying to nitpick and pin him down to a yes or no.

We have this excellent candidate in front of us, with a manifesto that is fully credible and who is genuinely passionate about improving the lives of the vast majority. And yet for some reason all that some people can seem to muster is bile about Hamas, the IRA and nuclear weapons.

For so long we bemoaned the fact there was no real alternative. We finally have someone who's progressive and doesn't feed us lies and rubbish.

I know who I will be voting for - and I hope that other people have been won over by this plan and won't be influenced by the nonsense in the media.

Conventional political wisdom has you repeat a soundbite over and over again until the electorate get it into their thick skulls that you're both strong and stable and vote for you.

But Corbyn has done as well as he has by treating people basically like adults able to understand a degree of nuance. It's a bold strategy particularly when everyone in the media is shouting "IRA lover" and "weak" at you, but it sort of seems to be paying off.

Even if it's a (weak) Tory majority, it's a Pyrrhic victory. Tories are shook. Brexit will be rocky. Strong Social Democracy is back on the agenda. There is real small 'm' momentum to be taken out of this election cycle for the left. We need to make this as close as possible.
