I don't mind playing most games on 30fps, or even a bit lower, but third-person games with tight combat systems and/or a high level of detail in their world that's focused on exploration (think Dark Souls or Witcher series) suffer badly for lower framerates. These are games that require a great level of concentration and attention to detail to play them in an effective and enjoyable way, and you lose that detail if you're not hitting the higher end of the mark. There's a whole world of difference between games that hit 60 range with a fair amount of consistency and games that rarely ever go above 30. Try playing MGSV right after the Witcher: the difference is pretty big, your movements are as smooth as in real-time and you're able to process what's going on around you with a single glance, as opposed to scanning for movement and detail that only reveals itself within a limited number of frames.

Agree with GB's comments about how this generation should be looking towards 60fps as a standard, though. Much as I love my PS4, MGSV is the only game that i have that looks and feels current gen.

I love playing Total War but I hate it when they release titles which arent working properly and they expect paying customers to do the game testing for them so they can release a patch! Grrr

On a similar note, day one patches that take hours to install.

My pet hate is in games where you can jump and climb when it allows you to climb up a 6 ft crate, because that's what the game wants you to do but can't climb up a 2ft rock because it's just there as background. Uncharted is awful for it.

Good stuff. I'll admit I'm somewhat of a snob when it comes to fps but as I say, if you play at 30fps alll the time it generally wont bother you unless it blatantly stutters or tears. But still, you'd expect modern games to meet a 60hz refresh rate with ease.

Frame rate is one of those things whereby you don't realise it's shit until you get something better. You just live with it because it's what you know. It's kinda like how I thought my old HD TV was amazing, until I got this 4k one.
