Yes that's right. The wait is nearly over! U20 tournament in France starts on Wednesday.

The teams;
France
England
Chine
Costa Rica
Qatar
USA
Netherlands
Ivory Coast
Mexico
Morocco

Last years winners Brazil defeated France in the final. But aren't in it this year.

Anyone going to give this a watch?

Will probably give it a watch, is it on BT Sport again this year?

We had a couple of players feature for England last year, got one (very highly-rated keeper) this time round. Squad as follows, for anyone interested:

Goalkeepers:

Christian Walton (Brighton)
Jordan Pickford (Sunderland)

Defenders:

Dominic Iorfa (Wolves)
Baily Cargill (AFC Bournemouth)
Kortney Hause (Wolves)
Isaac Hayden (Arsenal)
Moses Odubajo (Brentford) - winger/wing-back?

Midfielders:

Harrison Reed (Southampton)
Jack Stephens (Swindon Town, on loan from Southampton)
Jamie Hanson (Derby County)
Lewis Baker (Chelsea)
Matty Grimes (Swansea)
Jordon Ibe (Liverpool)
Duncan Watmore (Sunderland)
John Swift (Swindon Town, on loan from Chelsea)

Forwards:

Demarai Gray (Birmingham)
James Wilson (Manchester United)
Callum Robinson (Aston Villa)
Chuba Akpom (Arsenal)
Rolando Aarons (Newcastle)

Whats up with the lack of defenders? Only 5 in the squad.

I thought Odubajo was a winger, and Stephens I think played in defence for Swindon this season.

Kicks off tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing this French team.
Plenty of talent with the likes of Hunou, Bahlouli, Sparanga and Said.

Netherlands score the first goal of the tournament after three minutes.

Vloet scores a second. Slips up, but Costa Rica can't defend, so he still has time to get back up and score. 3-0.

Also makes me wonder where they will play, they've been fullbacks when playing for us this season but I think one of them might be given a shot at CB.

The standard of goalkeeping/defending has been horrendous in this tournament. Cargill's got to have given the worst individual perfomance. Based on today so far he belongs in non-league.

I noticed Aidy Boothroyd is manager - how do they play given his direct and up at them style deployed at club level?

How are Iorfa and Hause doing? Not so good I take it looking at the score. At work so cant watch it unfortunately.
Hause hasn't had much to do defensively. Either looks too big and clumsy on the ball, or brings out a bit of skill. Iorfa's been booked after losing the ball in his own half and then fouling the player, as he looked to go through on goal and also made the error leading up to the third goal.

It hasn't been a standard Boothroyd hoof it up the field game, which I was expecting. Some nice football has been played, we need to get the ball to Gray more.

Well Akpom needs to start the next game. Good finish from him and he looked dangerous going forward with the ball. Other than that it wasn't the greatest of displays, but not a lot of these players will make it to the senior side, as they'd be heading out with the U-21's rather than here.

Err, that was an interesting watch. Hopefully a case of early tournament nerves, felt like an error a minute at times..

I missed it but last time we were there the standard of the pitches was a big issue, even Southgate didn't have them playing out from the back much of the time. I did say that Boothroyd would stick to the FA script but no one believed me...

I heard he had a bad night, as did several other individuals. You haven't seen much of Cargill then I trust.

First time I've seen him yesterday, but he was the worst player on the pitch and looked out of his depth against a young Morocco side.
