Why are Galatasaray fans so negative about signing Jem Karacan?

Because we expected very popular players to join Galatasaray such as İbrahimoviç.Also our transfer strategy is changed. The fans aren't ready that changing :D we see that Jem Karacan joined Galatasaray We shocked :D Actually I play FM and I know Jem Karacan there. He can be very successful in our team. We will see :D

Gala were ace in the late 90s. All that Hakan Sukur gang. Fener I never really liked. Bunch of Brazilians making the team tick. And that's not on!

It's nice that the two big clubs are fighting it out at the top. For tradition's sake at least.

I agree with you ,mistermagic . Gala is the most successful football team in Turkey and it is well known in Europe. However, Fenerbahçe does not have a success in European Cups. Also , they are infamous in Europe because of chicanery. They weren't allowed to play in European Cups by UEFA twice. Although this happened, they weren't given any penalty by Turkish Football Federation. All Galatasaray and especially Trabzonspor fans are very nervous about that.
In last years, this traditional competition has turned fight because of Fenerbahçe's administrators. :D Also, there is another big competition. It is Besiktas(they have a record that and Galatasaray but this competition isn't well known in Europe.

Is anyone here familiar with Turkish football?

I'll be in Istanbul this weekend and planning on going to the Besiktas game. I've applied for and received my Passolig Card (which I'll pick up at the ground) and from there I take it I can simply load a ticket on to the card?

So, made it to the Besiktas vs. Busrsaspor game on Saturday.

Atmosphere was absolutely unreal. Everyone stood the whole game and chanted for the entirety. Made Ibrox look very flat and lifeless by comparison.

The quality of football was alright. The final ball of each side was a little poor though, but the defending from each side was solid and the game was played at a high intensity.

Left the ground just after final whistle and wandered back to the hotel in Galata. It was only when I got back I heard about the terrorist attacks. It was the opposite side of the ground from me (I had passed by earlier in the day picking up my tickets on the way to Taksim Square) so unlikely that I would have been effected, but sobering to consider that many of the police I saw in the stadium are probably dead. Close call for me.

During Oct 2007 I was in Istanbul for the week (working) which coincided with Besiktas v Liverpool in a CL group game so blagged tickets and ended up in with the 700 or so Liverpool fans. That week was also the Turkish Republican Day celebrations so Istanbul was in party mood anyway.
I spent most of the match watching the orchestrated singing/chanting that went on throughout the whole game by all four sides of the ground. I have been to many grounds/matches worldwide and it is still the best atmosphere/decibels I have ever witnessed/heard.
At the end of the game the fans remained and continued their celebrations with only a brief pause to allow 'our' relatively feeble rendition of YNWA which was greeted by applause. hero worship hands and then their own version of YNWA which the whole stadium sung.
An unbelievable memory...brings it back because I walked through the park back to my parked car after the game.

Apart from the main stand, everyone stood and chanted. Would be surprised if I ever heard an atmosphere/decibel level like that again...
