Rematch in Dagestan. What's the worst that could happen?
Would Connor even bother? He’s clearly no match for Khabib.

Ferguason vs Conor would be brilliant though I imagine he’s probably a mandatory for Khabib now....?

He’ll want a rematch. He’s that type of character. One of the more admirable things about him, IMO. And although he got properly schooled last night, he still has that KO power as a great equaliser.

Tony should get the next shot but Tony vs. Khabib is a very distant second to Conor vs. Khabib 2 in terms of drawing power. Pretty sure we’ll get a rematch within 6-12 months if Khabib escapes a lengthy suspension.

Tony vs. Conor is a decent Plan B, though!

P.S. That Ferguson vs. Pettis fight was something else! Shame it got overshadowed by the chaos that ensued afterwards.

Cracking fights tonight. I really want Lewis to get a title shot after DC steps down just for the funnies. Technically he's awful, and his cardio is laughable, but that right hand is nuts. Looking forward to seeing him on JRE.

Ferguson vs Pettis was on it's way to fight of the year for me, shame the way it ended but it's good to see corners protect their fighters for a change. Well done Duke Roufus. And Conor vs Khabib went pretty much as I expected with the dry humping, thought Conor would show a little more urgency when they were standing though, even if he is primarily a counter puncher.

Fucking good job it wasn't given the nonsense after the fight.
That Lewis post fight interview was fucking gold. Asked why he took his shorts off 'my balls wuz hot' totally straight faced. Then asked if he should have a title shot 'I need to sit my black ass down and do some cardio. I gun' have a title shot with a tank like that? Sheeeeeit'

Instant fan right here

I don't see why he deserves a rematch. Tapped in the fourth to a neck crank after being outclassed. As Khabib said before, Mcgregor is a quitter as we saw in Diaz I. If he wants another shot at the title he should go through Ferguson (unlikely), Poirier or Gaethje first.

I'm not a UFC superfan either but I'm not sure I see why the genuine fans be embarrassed? All the trash talk, hype and "beef" forms part of the UFC package and like you say, its great television. Had the incident resulted in fans kicking the shit out of each other inside/outside the venue then its a different story but (to my knowledge), that didn't happen.

Dana White can't come down all sanctimonious about the aftermath when he used the bus incident to sell the fight and sat on his arse smiling while Connor insulted Khabib's nationality, religion and family in front of a million cameras. Anyone who thinks he isn't absolutely delighted about the coverage this is getting is kidding themselves, especially if the PPV buys are as low as many speculated before the fight (sub 2m, which is still good but not the 3m+ DW was claiming it was going to be).

WWE and UFC should just merge and have a mma show and a sports entertainment show.

There are videos of Conor and Khabib fans clashing afterwards.

That’s what happens when you don’t clamp down on stupid behaviour in the first place.

Khabib will get punished by the commission but UFC will do fuck all.

What a performance though, I can’t see how conor can beat him unless he stands and trades with him like in the third round.

I think he claimed 2m+ not 3m+ unless I’ve missed something.

UFC brought this whole situation about on itself. It did nothing when Mcgregor slapped Marc Goddard in the cage after a Bellator fight. It did nothing of any consequence when Mcgregor threw the dolly at the bus, an event it played on in recent promos for the Khabib fight. Sadly, the UFC is kid gloves with both McGregor and Jon Jones, no matter what they do.

Anyone else here ever watch other organisations like Bellator, Invicta and the domestic stuff like Cage Warriors and BAMMA?

For me the main appeal of MMA is the gaudy spectacle of a fight. I do genuinely admire the fighters’ skill, athleticism, bravery, tactical nous and so on, but a fundamental part of the draw is the prospect of violent drama. I think fans who don’t admit to that are kidding themselves.

There’s literally hundreds of sports in which you can admire the competitors’ skill, endurance, tenacity and so forth without seeing people be purposely injured, knocked unconscious, choked out and so forth. If you’d rather watch MMA than, say, tennis, golf or indoor bowls, it’s because part of you (whisper it!) actually enjoys the violent, unpredictable drama of watching people fight.

If that’s your starting point and you’re self-aware enough to know it, a fight segueing into a post-fight brawl between two rival camps of knuckleheads really shouldn’t upset you that much. I thought Khabib beating up Conor for four rounds and then Hulk-stomping into the crowd to fight Conor’s jujitsu coach was hilarious. How many people who watched that really felt the event had been ruined?

I understand why Dana does his pearl-clutching Helen Lovejoy act whenever things get out of a hand. Part of his job is maintaining positive relations with sponsors and the various state athletic commissions (esp. Nevada), and that requires him to make the ‘right’ noises when things go south. It’s insincere and comically hypocritical (Shane’s points on that are well observed), but we’re talking about Corporate PR here. What do people expect?

The fans? I’d wager that at least 99% of those who claim to be saddened or appalled by what happened will buy the PPV if/when they do a rematch. I know I will. This WWE stuff sells.

I watch Bellator very occasionally. I usually try to catch Rory MacDonald's fights. Ditto for Michael Page. I'm very occasionally drawn by the old dude 'super'-fights they put on (e.g. I'll probably watch Chael vs. Fedor at the weekend) but that's about it. Don't watch any of the smaller scale stuff.

I watch occasional Bellator events they have some great talent at the moment.

Dana is playing the disappointed dad but we all know in reality he cannot wait to use that footage in the rematch.

Just how accountable are promoters to state athletic commissions though? Aren't they (the commissions) more or less in the same position as Dana in so much as they have to look like they're appalled but ultimately, they want the financial benefit of hosting these events.....? They'll issue a (relatively) small slap on the wrist and that'll be the end of it.

(I'm thinking about Canelo in that last sentence).

He doesn't, but he will, cos Conor and a rematch with Khabib makes the most money for everyone involved. And let's be honest, he'll get whatever he wants from the UFC, they're definitely not telling him who he has to fight. They need him more than he needs them at this point. Him holding a belt for 18 months without defending it sums their relationship up nicely. Would much rather see him fight Ferguson, Gaethje or Pettis than be wrestlefucked to death again.

And tbh I'm all for the newer "fuck the rankings" model. Do away with the rankings and the belts imo. Let's see more superfights and people going up/down a division for the fights people want to see. TJ vs DJ, Holloway vs Poirier, Gaethje or any of the other lunatics at lightweight etc. let's see it. Fuck it, introduce a PED division or two and let's see some jacked up freaks punch holes in each other. A 265lb weight limit is dumb too. I want to see a 320lb juiced up Lesnar suplex Ubereem out of the cage. And bring back Pride rules while we're at it.

The days.

Emelianenko, Wanderlei Silva and Cro Cop before they went to UFC, Rampage.

Holloway vs. Ortega was great. Time to move Max to 155, though, I reckon. Don’t see any money fights for him at 145, unless Conor’s game for a rematch, which he’s probably not.

Not surprise me if they find him a match up at 145 at least one more time.

Apathetic on Till really.

More concerned about the Tony Ferguson thing right now (read the whole article, the headline is a bit unbalanced IMO). Hope they can get him to accept the help it would appear he badly needs, especially before he does something to really hurt someone.
