The women's world cup will be a right pain with no grass! Or that's what they are now claiming at the twelfth hour as all the tournament will played on synthetic grass they are expecting more injuries. I thought the new technology on these surfaces had eliminated all that??

Well I'm excited! France v England on Tuesday is the big one and there are so many good sides who are going to fight it off. Holders Japan will be up against it once again while the favourites will surely be the hosts - Canada - and the US. A repeat of the olympic semi would be grrrrrrrrrreat. Then you have France & Germany in Europe although I reckon neither will be either North American team.
I fully expect England to be shit once again.

Not really at the twelfth hour, there's been concerns about these pitches since they were announced.

I hope England do well, but I expect our French correspondent is correct.

Looked an edgy start for the host who needed an injury-time penalty to beat China. Holland beat New Zealand 1-0 in the other game.

Norway/Thailand in a couple of hours.

Looking forward to seeing how well England can do against the French, who are a bit of a bogey team for them, the finals are a few levels up on the qualifying so it might be a bit of a challenge!

Come on England!

Some good football being played by the Germans so far, and although they lead 1-0 it could easily be 4-0 by now and only 10 mins gone.

Germany 5-0 up at half time. Complete dominance, and it could be 7+ already. The Ivorians are still battling strong though!

Finished 10-0. Germany didn't play particularly well, Ivory Coast were just shocking at defending which is normal amateurs and first time out against the best team in the world.
Looking forward to USA/Australia tomorrow.

Any game featuring Laure Boulleau is well worth watching!

Sweden 3-2 Nigeria. A very entertaining game so far, and i'm sure there are more goals to come in this game.

Finished 3-3. Sweden were shite, Nigeria very hard-working and deserved to take all 3 points.

I only watched the first half hour of the Sweden game. Nigeria looked far superior on the ball but couldn't defend corners for their life. I think Nigeria might cause a shock or two in this tournament. Some of their forward players look like they could cause havoc.

I fully expect France to defeat England tomorrow. I'll go 2-0 to the French. I expect us to be functional but lacking any sort of impetus whatsoever.

From the snippets I've seen, no. I don't think we're any better now than we are a good 7-8 years back. Other teams have caught up and if anything I think we'll struggle to get to the quarter finals, let alone any further.

The US unconvincingly beat the Aussies 3-1. They look very route one. The plan is basically to hoof it up to Wambach and hope for the best. Australia looked good at the back and could cause a lot of sides a few problems.
Really good group this. In Japan's group, Cameroon beat Ecuador 6-0. They look quite good too. Japan v Switzerland next.

That was pathetic from England. Our girl gets the ball, and makes a one yard pass to put the other girl into trouble.

Sigh.

Sounds like we are quite defensive even at 1-0 down.

Mind you they did say we could have a easier run of games if we come 2nd rather than top!

What a dire game, but isn't that always the case whenever England play.

We're not going through. We're useless. I'm annoyed to see Karen Baardsley is still our keeper as well. She is awful. I remember one penalty shoot out where she dived after the ball had hit the back of the net.

Who will go through with France?

A couple of predictions I read had us going out in the 2nd round (to Norway?)

England manager said it was an excellent performance!

Wow, just wow. Well done to the manager who set up not to lose, and lost. A truly inspiring tactic. For fuck sake. If anything in this match is a bonus, then go for it. Give a performance which you can build upon rather than this turgid shit. Football is this country can piss off at the moment with it's 'no lose' attitude. Just go for it, have no fear. We're so scared of losing that we've lost before it's started.

Apparently that was a "brave" and "spirited" performance...

Complete bollocks of course. If that was the men's side they would have got (deservedly) slated.
