FGR v Tranmere Rovers: 25th Sep

Good post, but Prenton Park is run down ? Really ? There has been a lot of improvement work in recent years and it is smarter than most grounds at this level. We actually put in our best performance of the season yesterday, with a number of tactical changes, so possibly coming into form.

235 Salford fans at Prenton Park. That must be the lowest visiting support we have had from a North West league club in decades. Even Accrington and Morecambe generally bring more.

A really good performance by us today, our best of the season so far, and the scoreline flattered Salford. We gave them a good mullering really. The return to fitness of Callum MacDonald was key for us. With a natural left back available, Mellon was happy to switch to a back four and we looked...

They had problems with the scanners in the away section, and myself and a load of other supporters were let in via a side entrance rather than through the turnstile. That might be why there is a discrepancy in the figures. Merseyside Police physically count every person that walks into the...

Tin pot clubs in League Two

They were promoted along with a then mediocre club called Liverpool, under the management of a relatively unknown bloke called Shankly. The two clubs have gone in very different directions since....... In fairness, Orient did have a decent stint in the second tier in the Seventies.

    EFL Trophy

We were playing poor opposition, but I thought Maynard and Foley looked very good tonight and should start on Saturday. Ryan Watson could do with watching Foley's performance and emulating it.

That is fantastic considering how average we have been this season.

    Friday 10th - Tuesday 14th September

I thought Rochdale deserved to win the game today, although the manner of the defeat was frustrating for us. They were the better side in the first half and caused us a lot of problems in midfield, through the movement of Newby and Odo. However, we got back into the game after half time and the...

    Player ratings so far

Agree with most of those, but I think you have been harsh on NKP who has been solid in several games. I think Watson does have opportunities to get forward in the system we are playing, but does not take them often enough: he needs to offer more. The best players to date are probably Murphy...

I have got a lot of respect for Dave Challinor and would like to see him in charge here one day. However, Micky Mellon is one of the greatest managers we have ever had, and the best in this division in my view, and I personally would not want anybody else managing us at this time. You can take...

Anyway, I thought the two best players on the pitch today were the two right backs, Sterry and Cogley. I would be surprised if they are playing at this level for too long.

You finally found one stat in favour of your argument then ? An effort on goal can be a pathetic, pointless blocked shot from thirty yards, or grass cutter that hits the corner flag, so it does not prove a great deal. We had equal amounts of the ball, and you got more shots away, none of which...

Yes, in terms of possession and efforts on target, and the statistics bear me out. You had looked slightly the more threatening of the two sides when you got in behind our full backs, but you certainly were not 'by far the better team'.

But your failings in front of goal are all part of your performance are not they, and arguably why you did not deserve to win ? The same as ours were at Scunthorpe last week. A ball rolling across the box without an attacking player within thirty yards of it, is not a genuine chance in my book...
