So good to be back in the EFL!
I was a huge advocate for fan ownership personally but I’d imagine that the EFL as an entertainment business would have been desperate for Wrexham to be promoted. Reynolds has undeniable star power and is a very astute businessman, and he will be shining a light...
You are right about the poor TV deal for leagues 1 and 2 being part of the issue. BT Sport don't pay much for the National League TV rights but that deal certainly does give great exposure to the clubs.
I would hope that in the next contract Sky are mandated to show a certain number of games...
I certainly hope so.
Ideally alongside that I would like to see the National League turned into EFL League 3 - as long as it is coupled with much better governance of the league and rules around financial fair play.
The attendances and stature of many of the National League clubs certainly...
As a qualified accountant, you’d know better than me. The club said the following:
“The Annual Report and Financial Statements for the 12 months to June 30, 2022 (‘the period’) have been submitted to Companies House.
Turnover for the period was £5.972m, an increase of 404% from £1.478m.
Of...
As a Wrexham supporter I personally was a fan of our previous fan owned model. I do have concerns about living beyond our means.
However, in the interests of balance, I would point out that the loss you mention includes the one-off cost of buying the freehold for the stadium back that we lost...
Still seems a strange point. Not sure who the bloke supports, but most clubs are bankrolled one way or another.
The new Wrexham owners have been pretty open about not throwing money at the first team by the way. The plan is to bring in more sponsorship thanks to their profile, make money from...
Strange post. Wrexham are a very, very well run club. We came from a position of having all of our assets stripped from us, including our ground and our training ground which were worth many millions, significant debts, losing £750k a year, to now where we have no debt at all, a 90+ year lease...
Ultimately it all comes down to money - either the existing EFL clubs would have to sacrifice some of their TV money and PL solidarity payments to share with the additional clubs in an expanded EFL (zero chance of that), or the TV companies and PL would have to cough up more to cover the extra.
It's been happening for years. There are similar clubs to Borehamwood already in the EFL, and plenty of traditionally bigger clubs in the National League and even further down the pyramid. They've got the money. That's football.
Agreed. The NL is a very amateurish organisation trying to run a full-time, professional league which contains a number of fairly big clubs, and has had its day.
A restructure covering league 1 and 2 and the National League is long overdue. League 2 north and south?
There's also this from the BBC story on the vote - albeit no name for the source: "I spoke to someone in the EFL earlier who said promotion and relegation between the two leagues is still expected."
National League season to continue
As far as I'm aware, there is no EFL rule about how clubs from the National League are declared the winner. The national league nominates the two clubs who are to be promoted based on the results of their own competition. E.g. last season it was on PPG, before that the National League changed...
There's no way that the EFL will not go through with relegation and promotion, unless something really drastic happens. I understand why Grimsby fans hope they will miraculously suspend it - I probably would too in their position - but they are really clutching at straws. Maybe Dover won't...
Apparently at the Wrexham Supporters Trust SGM it was said that these aren't the same bidders as the consortium who were interested in Hartlepool. Not sure if true though.
I’m glad Crewe fans don’t rate Walker as it makes it more likely we can sign him - the fact is that if he was already our player clubs much higher in the pyramid than Crewe would be looking at him based on his performances, and he wouldn’t be our player for long. For whatever reason it has...
Yes, our average attendance is 5,200 this season, which really isn't too shabby. Looking at the attendances in League 2 that would make us the sixth best supported club, and that is with very few away fans.
Good to hear.
We made things extremely uncomfortable for our last two owners (both of them carpet baggers and asset strippers).
What tipped them over the edge was regularly visiting their homes to (legally) protest and explain to their neighbours what was going on.
Also regularly visiting...
