That's true. Looking back at the match reports for the early 08-09 season it describes plenty of good goalkeeping but a lot of nervousness and a lot of mistakes. Maybe my memory was distorted due to the team making a reasonable start.
Looking back I feel a bit sorry for Gamble. He started off well, then made a few mistakes in a really poor side, then seemed to disappear forever. Mansfield was probably not a good loan move for him at that time. Oh well it's a dog eat dog world
Surely if you were that size as a professional GK you'd get on a treadmill. Fully accept it has little bearing to no bearing on ability to keep goal but it's a mentality and trust thing. If I can't trust you to stay in reasonable shape as a professional athlete how can I pick you?
Who remembers Jumping John? He always had good insider knowledge. I remember for some time thinking it John Radford. I eventually told myself it was ridiculous, a bit like the time I thought I had seen David Beckham at a petrol station in Blidworth.
I will probably sound like I'm clutching at straws because why would you want Bowery over Doyle, but I think what we need first is a base of good, honest players who will work hard. Our team became very overpaid and unlikeable.

This is what I meant. Jordan Bowery signs and I'll admit I know nothing about him except he used to be a Chesterfield player. This is how he describes himself:
“I will work as hard as anyone. I’m athletic, powerful...
I agree. What I meant is we've just released a load of highly paid underperformers, so it doesn't make sense to immediately replace them with another one if he doesn't fit the style. I was expecting the manager to go for more energy up front, which is why I also thought it was strange that we...
Don't know anything about the stories. Both are strong and quick defenders. White plays wing back and did have real pace. He seemed to struggle with muscle strains and what not last year after breaking something the season before. He needs a strong preseason and a watchful eye from the...
Correct decision to get rid of Flitcroft, wrong appointment to get Dempster. I still think losing to Newport in the playoffs clouded judgement re. the next appointment. They saw Flynn as a rookie doing well and went for Dempster thinking it would have the same impact. It seems like part of the...
There's an interesting article on The Chad (won't link to it as the website is awful) where Bishop is talking about Dempster's leadership. Confirms what a lot of us were thinking re. Dempster.
First names are good if you like a player and you're shouting words of encouragement in the stadium from somewhere they can hear you. I haven't figured out what to call Coughlan yet. You need phlegm to say Coughlan properly and I don't like Graham. I don't know him well enough for Cocko or if...
His attitude seemed to improve once he was transfer listed by Coughlan though. I don't recall Pearce's attitude ever being questioned at Mansfield except immediately after he was managed by Dempster. As a senior pro and leader in the dressing room, I wonder if Pearce felt alienated due to the...
