Totally under the cosh for the last 20 mins of our game last night, but credit to Maynard and Saunders who got the shape and game plan right. With games every Sat and Tues right now, contact time on the training ground is minimal so it's difficult for the management team to implement a new shape...
There was money made available to Flowers because you made a huge offer for Jacob Mendy. £50,000 transfer fee (his release clause) and offered to treble his wages. He is an outstanding player at this level but won't be a NL player for long. Fully expecting a big money move to the EFL this summer.
It was, achieved by a management TEAM. At the moment, the majority of that management team remain in place at the Stones (including Matt Saunders who was first team coach last season). It will be interesting if Brennan can repeat success on his own.
Brennan did a fantastic job last season and will do down as one of our best - not THE best - but something was not right this season. You don't know what to believe when you hear the rumours, but Saunders last night basically confirmed a lot of them. Why things changed so much from last season...
We've already furloughed some of the squad. I suspect as things evolve we'll furlough more but doubt we'll play the kids. Expect a balance of players we want to retain for next season, Premier League/Championship loanees (which cost us nothing) and maybe one or two highly rated youth players.
Got to be happy with a point and a clean sheet against the league's in form side. The management team have made sorting out our shape and defensive mindset a priority; apart from the collapse at Sutton after going down to 10 men, we've done well away at Torquay and against Eastleigh last night...
The whole situation is a complete clusterfuck. I am dead against furloughing the first team squad but based on that statement I don't see we have any alternative.
No idea. The purchased codes from the postponed game didn't work for the rearranged game, so if you wanted to watch it you had to buy again. And then radio silence.
Poor from Maidenhead. Also poor from our own club to charge some fans twice for the Gloucester FA Trophy game because of an error, and never issue a refund despite stating they would. I doubt many fans would ask for the money back, but as a principle they should have contacted everyone affected...
Totally agree with the sentiments about Sutton. Alot to admire there; well run club that don't appear to overspend, good facilities, have gradually built a strong squad and are a force to be reckoned with in the division. Would love to see them in the EFL. A good blueprint for the Stones to follow.
Nothing to do with league position. We aren't in the relegation zone, in fact for the majority of the season we've been in and around the play off places.
New signings are non contract and on expenses (and some have gone because they were offered decent deals elsewhere). We don't pay for the...
It won't make any difference as the rest of the league will vote to continue, so probably a tactic to help us stress our financial difficulties in advance of a grant or loan application. This is the downside of being supporter owned and run.. with all revenue streams (apart from streaming games)...
A much changed Stones side with no recognised striker on the pitch, so a good point against the league leaders away from home on a Tuesday night, all things considered. Olowu from Arsenal made his debut and looked solid at right back, Ashley Charles made his first appearance of the season and...
Results and performances have been poor recently. But reading between the lines, there were other issues. I don't think this decision was all performance related. We knew this season was about survival really.
As an aside, I've heard Darren Currie's name rumoured as a potential for the Stones...
It depends what the "controllable aspects" were. Its all a bit cryptic. Lots of rumours flying around about the dynamics on the playing side which if true, will no doubt have contributed to what the board felt Dean should have been controlling better.
I do agree he and Stuart Maynard did a...
Update from the Stones board on Dean Brennan's departure. Board were unhappy with some "controllable aspects" of the first team in the last couple of months, so much so that they wouldn't consider offering Dean a new contract this summer when his deal ran out. Dean therefore decided he couldn't...
How many NL clubs made a profit last season? How many are debt free? I'm almost certain many/most are budgeting to lose money, topped up by wealthy investors/benefactors.
