Agreed - was taken to the pub near Elm Park aged 16 for my first pint. Met mates in there over the coming years, countless away games, never looked back. Can't beat it.
Losing to Bolton in the 1995 Championship Play-off final was torture. We were 2-0 up at HT, missed a penalty to make it 3-0 and ended up losing 4-3 after extra time. Also consider we finished second that season, the only ever year that a team has not been promoted automatically.
A trip to the Manor Ground was probably as good as it got for us in terms of a rivalry. Used to be a cracking and hostile atmosphere. Some good memories for us there, and some not so good... I hate the Kassam, just as much as you probably hate the Madejski. The Manor and Elm Park were a...
What about Plymouth? I live in Southsea, not far from the ground and it gets very tasty round here when they are in town. Pretty sure it's kicked off the last few occasions anyway, normally loads of old bill about.
Sad news, especially for those who have supported the clubs involved for many, many years.
Went to Gigg Lane once, in 2000, and we won 2-0 there. I think Jamie Cureton netted one and Phil Parkinson captained the side that day. We pulled our minibus into a social club on the outskirts of Bury...
Er, where have I ever said that Cardiff fans would be intimidated by travelling to Reading?
I said they've lost their reputation in recent years.
One of those things you would have had to experience first hand to understand. I certainly enjoyed the 90s, you meet some cracking people, have a good laugh up and down the country & get some fantastic stories to tell... (maybe not all of them)
I'm implying exactly that - it's not the same nowadays and Cardiff lost a lot of their older fans through the kit change. I know 1 or 2 Cardiff lads who haven't been in years.
I won't disagree that trouble rarely kicks off at Reading nowadays, although I do hear some accounts from the younger...
Chelsea have a huge following round here and a lot of their mob are based this way. The youngers always used to have to go with Chelsea back from the 80s onwards as a sort of initiation, I did a few Chelsea aways in the early 90s to places like West Ham or Tottenham.
Close ties and Chelsea...
Lazy, always looks disinterested, too many unnecessary touches. Bottled taking a penalty in the play-off final when he was our designated taker earlier in the season. Would always moan and groan if things weren't going his way. Never warmed to him at all.
I understand he's from Oxford as well.
I'm not saying they were yesterday but back in the day Cardiff always turned up. Best time at the new ground was 2008, they brought 4,000+, police horses on the pitch in front of the away end at full time after Federici scored a last minute equaliser. They always caused a nuisance at Elm Park as...
Cardiff haven't turned up to the Madejski in years, it's nothing new. Back in the Ninian Park days (and before all the red kit shite) they would turn up in huge numbers. Not really the same club anymore.
Good win for us - Joao and Puscas looked excellent up front, Ejaria and Swift with their usual intricate play in behind. Play like that all season and we won't be staring relegation in the face once again.
