We've been brilliant. If Stech hadn't thrown both goals in his own net we would be 2 up and you would have to say it wouldn't flatter us on the balance of play even 10 vs 11. Lincoln even more direct and ugly than I remember.
Didn't see our red so can't comment. Thought the second yellow for...
The pitch was just cut up from being used, nothing tactical about it and indeed as Vale fans have noted bobbles cost them at opportune times too.
Jones said in his post-match presser that they were aware of the pitch and picked a team designed to essentially be more direct than usual and hit...
I don't pretend to know how you play every week, but I was at the return fixture so I do know how you played on that particular day, and I don't recall much "mix[ing] it up" - literally every single attack of yours was started by Farman launching the ball from your box to ours and looking to...
Yes, this is my concern. In the reverse fixture we weathered the long balls well, but that was mainly down to one man - Cuthbert, who was man of the match on that day by an absolute mile. He was a huge miss yesterday against a good standard target man who absolutely bullied Sheehan and Mullins...
Awful defending from us for all the goals, we kept playing ourselves into trouble again and again by pissing around at the back. All four defenders plus Glen Rea had howlers and Stech was awful too. Fair play to Vale though, they were well on top all game. Pope back to his best too, they'l be a...
We were shocking that half. Pelly bad, D'Ath completely anonymous. JJ having a poor game and the centre backs being bullied by Pope who is a real handful (although ably assisted by a ref who seemingly is incapable of spotting the blatant shoving he's getting up to). Stech's distribution has been...
Some surprises on the team sheet today, we'e rotated heavily. Berry and Collins benched. Less confident than I was before seeing that it has to be said!
Pretty much all of the batterings we've doled out this season have turned into routs in the last 10-20 minutes. Teams give up and we ruthlessly put them to the sword when they do.
Expecting a tough one today, Vale's form over the last 10 or 12 games is top 3 basically, 2 points per game ish so...
Haven't seen any threads about the away following to Vale on our forum yet, suspect whoever said that was mistaking a thread about the Newcastle game which is the current topic of the moment. We haven't even announced pre-sale figures for this one as it's been pay on the day the whole time...
Biggest away following of ours that I can remember certainly, know we've taken 5,000+ a few times (and often could have sold more were there tickets to accommodate) but I think this may beat our own record not including finals of cups/play-offs etc.
Shame they can't give us a bigger allocation...
On the other hand, a wide pitch could help expose our relative lack of pace and width in the middle if played right.
With the huge pitch and busy schedule in mind, I wouldn't be adverse to us starting with the 4-3-3 rather than the diamond. Would mean "dropping" Shinnie which is harsh of course...
Yep, definitely agree with this. We strengthened in a few key areas this summer (although we lost key players from in those same areas first), but the majority of our side is the same as it was last season. 7 of the starting 11 today played last season, and the improvement in almost all of them...
That bit of play just then sums it up for me. 5-0 up away from home with 3 minutes left and we had 8 players in or just outside the Swindon box for an attack. We are just relentless in search of goals. When teams lose their heads against us we just flatten them.
