Well my eldest has his fingers crossed for an obscure away day for his birthday. On a side note, his birthday next year is the World Cup final, I know I'd definetly rather be at a Plymouth Parkway or Larkhall watching Southend struggle than the biggest game in football.
Anyone know where the...
Not going to Altrincham, my eldest son has a football match, I've complained bitterly and numerously about the clash.
Capacity still capped to 1400 at the ground so only 250 Southend fans able to get tickets, which were all gone over a week ago. I'm planning on going up there maybe...
I'm still confused by the set up then. What you've outlined is Kevin Maher as the manager of the football club, not the head coach. If that is how it's being worked we've literally no need for the numerous people we have on board and we may as well just be calling John Still head of scouting...
There may not be interference but there is clear crossover. Both of their interviews talk about player recruitment and scouting networks. As long as they are both talking to each other about what is wanted in playing style and player type etc. then fine but if not it looks a bit like too many...
Going proper non-league with Still! I don't know what to make of it tbh, where is funding coming for all these people, we don't seem to be able to pay any players a decent wage but we'll get in as many off the field people as we can, I've never known so many coaching staff at the club. And is...
Three ex-Shrimpers in the Maidenhead team, two who came through the youth ranks in Acquah and Ferdinand. I'm expecting Sam Barratt (who I thought at the time was a massive mistake to let go) will tear us a new one. Pretty sure Alan Devonshire is still living round Southend somewhere or certainly...
It really isn't. If I didn't know as many of the other complete idiots like myself who are willing to travel round the country I wouldn't be bothering. Just been going for the social aspect of it and cos I missed it during lockdown, you never know if we're heading back there so I'll get in as...
I'll be very interested to see what happens because the rumour has been started by someone at the club and not someone who wouldn't know the ins and outs of the boardroom.
I think I said something similar earlier in this thread. Also that the development has £30M central government funds as well, nobody is coming out of this looking good even if Ron is acquitted.
From what I've been told about the court case it's become a he said/he said battle between two old...
He is so frustrating. Somehow he's scored goals in this team, yet he spends so much time trying to win freekicks and penalties he forgets to fucking play. Last night he was offside more then Gary Hooper as well, which I didn't think was possible.
He's not even good at it, just stay on your feet...
Most interesting thing from last night was the half time chatter.
A number of people are expecting Ron Martin to step away from his role at the club next week, his son will replace him on the board.
New Chairman won't be named until after his court case, in which he is now expected to plead...
Yet still I keep going! Our team is slower and has less skill than the cargo ships I saw docked on the way into Grimsby.
Have to say though the away end was fun, saw some faces I haven't seen for years, some of the best singing in ages, broke out some old favourites and we've got the great new...
For some reason Grimsby away is top of my eldest sons list of grounds to visit, I was a bit pissed when they changed it to a Friday night, but it's not a school night so why not.
I'm already questioning my sanity as in a few hours I depart for Grimsby. I'm going to be optimistic and say we'll score, so 3-1 Grimsby. Hoping for a decent game and some goals, if I was being wildly optimistic we might score 2, so 5-2 would be likely.
Even the World Cup can have 4G pitches. I'm not sure where the half and half grass/synthetic pitches are classed by the EFL, because those as well keep for so much longer than a fully grass pitch.
There's also the point that a lot of clubs, especially at the very top level, train on 4G pitches...
Grounds are inspected before the season starts, council, fire safety, environmental health etc... The certificates are then given out so clubs can start the season, what happened at Altrincham? Some councillors that don't like the club questioned the original decision to let the ground pass the...
I went to Ipswich v Oldham today. Impressed by Oldham, more than held their own against a clearly better team, but they wanted it so much more. On today I can't believe they are third bottom in this division.
They missed a penalty, it was well saved actually, to go 2-1 up. I didn't really see...
No idea how many they've sold, there's probably more Southend fans going to your game than the Chesterfield game.
Bowers are incredibly excited about it all, special shirt to be worn, scarfs and all that.
