Stand corrected, Newport, and possibly Notts County. Any others?
Maybe my age, but if I were manager I’d want to stand or fall by my own signings and methods. If the results go wrong, do the recruitment team sack themselves or is it the coaches fault?
Who the hell do you think puts the squad together???
The Head Coach of course. Not aware of any lower league club where the manager or head coach doesn’t have final say on signings.
The squad is dictated by the budget, and it is certainly lower than last season when we sat about 12th.
Don’t think Artell is under any pressure from the board. He will have their total support because they are totally aligned to what they are trying to achieve.
Fan base are different. Don’t know if it is the same everywhere but many GTFC fans are happiest when they are moaning. The negativity...
Thought Barrow just about deserved the points. Two poor goals to concede by Grimsby, but hand on heart, just reward for a slow lethargic performance. Improved a little after the break, hit the post had a goal disallowed, but too little too late.
Don’t think Grimsby will be relagation material...
Very fair review imo. Like most sides ( I expect? ) we too have key men missing. The spine of our team missing. We did ok today but 3 or 4 had quite games. More to come I have no doubt
Back in the car.
A very mixed game at Chesterfield, Grimsby by far the better side until Chesterfield scored, then added a 2nd due to some ridiculously hesitant defending.
Got one back with an excellent goal from distance.
Second yellow for the Chesterfield midfielder was ridiculous from the...
I have to say the ref was shocking for both sides.
Sometimes difficult when you lost to be critical of the officials but he deserves some serious flack after we took the points. Some of his decisions on fouls were insane, he didn’t have a clue what was going on.
Having said that I thought...
McEachran, imho, is a footballer playing well below his level.
Last season Bradford deserved diddly squat in the 2 games against GTFC but stole a point on both occasions. I suspect they will be by far the better side and lose on Saturday
I got something right for once!
Grimsby are just too lightweight, the lack of physically will find them out time and time again. I am not suggesting kicking people, but using your body in challenges, getting closer to opponents etc etc.
Notts were good, lots of width, a mobile big front man...
Artell will stick to his principles and play his way v Notts but can only see a home win.
Notts have had their style for a longer period of time, acquired the players that fit and had much longer to drill it into the players.
