For me, Tomkinson and Platt are better individual players than Byrne and Baldwin. Baldwin was a part of the worst defence in the country and Byrne was a bit part player for Stockport. I like Stubbs but he wasn't great last year and I don't think Alexander rates him.

I can't agree with that. We had a few horror shows but had the fourth most clean sheets in the league. Our actual weakness was at the other end - we were the lowest scorers in the top 10.

We're weaker now was my point. Obviously see who his replacement is (hopefully not Byrne) but history tells you when our better players leave, their replacement is often a downgrade.

Platt is streets ahead of some of the clowns you had in your back line last season

Platt is a big loss. For some reason there's a section of our fanbase that don't like him but he's comfortably our best defender and has been pretty consistent in his time here. We are weaker with him leaving that's for sure.

Platt gets some grief from a selection of our fans for some reason but he's more than good enough at this level.

Based on that, I'm not sure he's what we need in midfield. What we're desperate for is a player who can dictate a game, dare I say Elliot Watt.
