Us being 2nd is mental, we’ve spent most of this season calling for our manager’s head, been poor whenever we’ve played a decent team and had our best player out with a broken leg. Aside from Walsall, I can’t remember League 2 ever being this tight and unpredictable
Our very good players somehow winning in spite of Maynard’s prolonged nonsense.
Nice to see Josh Martin play well a week before his contract expires after Maynard’s refused to play him since signing
Jodi Jones back on the bench is lovely, Grant back too.
Starting XI is a nightmare though with Tsaroulla ill. We seem to be attempting to play a football match without any full backs or wingers
Do quite like the idea that football governing bodies have vendettas, they’re obviously just aimlessly incompetent and all clubs will repeatedly fall on the wrong side of stuff…but then, if I worked at the EFL and could do stuff out of irrational dislikes for certain clubs with no repercussions...
I like Grant, think he’s one of the few players we have who doesn’t feel the need to drop deep to receive the ball - very clearly a brilliant player in there, just hasn’t been good enough in the final third to date - you can’t play in that advanced midfield/inside forward role and not contribute...
I filed Will Patching and Ed Francis in the same category, both once highly rated Premier League Academy kids with clear technical ability but lacking enough pace and physicality to succeed. The latter we released and has now worked his way up to L1 though so maybe a stint in Ireland has done...
Overdue a Maynard rotation I think, I could see him starting Brown and Hinchy or something.
I do wonder how far off Edwards, Grant and Jones are (and Robertson, although I’ve practically given up on him now with his ridiculous injury record).
Nah course not, your form recently is good and it’s not been an easy run of fixtures so every reason to be optimistic.
‘Functional and battling’ are the teams we struggle with as well so I’d probably take a draw from our side
Wondergoal Adjudication Panel have regrettably denied this status as a ‘wonder hit’ on the basis the keeper got a full hand on it and should have saved it, upon review it has been downgraded to ‘well struck’
you should know by now we’re far more comfortable when we’re losing and calling for a manager’s head. When we win we have to look externally for talking points like how many 36 year olds Chesterfield will sign in January to freshen up the squad.
I will give Austin his due, think he’s been fine the last 2 games. Offers little to no attacking threat as he can’t beat a man but been tidy enough on the ball and ‘done a job’ defensively
