Said "Youth Ranks" not academy - wasn't aware of how long Andy had been with Dale. First came to my notice as a Youth Team player (ie about 17/18 yrs old).
If he's a County fan then it's nice for him to get the chance to play for you last season - possibly might not have got the same chance if...
Midfielder who came through our youth ranks (same year as Andy Cannon - Stockport on loan last season), played very well (in L1) then went on a free to Fleetwood after our former CEO and his cronies used the Covid epidemic as an excuse to withdraw contract offers to all our out of contract...
In reply to "Railway Blue" - Generally have a distrust of Sans Serif amongst the privileged Upper Cases.
In the case of Bury, the various initials are those of organisations controlled by the happy clappy, self righteous idiots whose attitude to the former chairman Stuart Day remained firmly...
Rather have Tommy Rowe, who can score and, like his Stockport team-mates from the 2007/2008 playoff final, is fated to subsequently play for Dale (7 of the 16 man squad have already). There's only Tommy Rowe and Liam Pilkington (promisingly, released by Fleetwood) still in the league who haven't...
Better in L1 than L2, curiously. Started 2021/22 well, but lost his first team place and ended up behind Grant and Odoh for a wide midfield/forward spot - both of whom are a few years younger and contracted for 22/23.
On the grounds that
1) my uncle lived there and once, on a visit to him, I attended Field Mill as a "home supporter" (v Orient in the 1970s)
2) one of my Great-Great-Great Grandfathers was from Sutton (Ashfield NOT Surrey)
3) They share a nickname (nearly) with Ross County, who I dislike less...
One of the pluses of just failing (by approx 15 places) to gain promotion from L2 is that our first game next season will not be against Posh. Nothing much against them, but in was getting predictable (and we did tend to lose more than win) :)
Newport v Dale. Dead rubber, but one or two points of interest.
1. The young lads. Ethan Brierley did well against the Gas last week. Jordan Scanlon, Peter Thomas and goalie Brad Kelly have made the bench for the league but not got on yet.
2. Tweaking the nipples of the footballing gods...
Stockport or Wrexham? Hmm...
Fingers crossed for a complete collapse by both (including a tedious brawl when they play each other which finishes 0-0 in goals and 3-3 in red cards) and three wins for Halifax to let them sneak the title, with any of Notts, Chesterfield or Grimsby winning the...
Unfortunately, it was. Bit of "handbags" at a Dale corner, and he grabbed an opponent by the throat, in front of the ref, who was/is the sort of arsehole who thinks he's the reason why people turn up to watch football.
Kudos to J Barton for recognising he'd got the balance of the team wrong...
Charman took a few weeks to get fully match fit, but his all-round play has been pretty decent. I suspect once he gets a goal, he'll start getting them regularly.
We've also recalled Ethan Brierley from loan at Spennymoor in time for today's game - we're short in midfield so he might go...
A fit Harrison McGahey would be decent enough, problem is fitness, not quality. Sam Hart was reasonable, too, at Dale (in L1) on loan, while I think Northampton fans would confirm that Nicky Adams is a good pro, albeit now 35 y/o.
