Riding our luck, scored too early and only a combination of poor finishing and Joe 'better than Pym' Whitworth has kept us ahead. Woods having a poor night.
Expect better second half.

Shrews look every inch a relegation certainty. Good to see Alli playing for Exeter- always thought he had something about him at Halifax.

Surprised with how poor Exeter have been after going ahead. So many chances for Shrewsbury, definitely riding their luck. I think a stat was posted on here saying Exeter are up there with most shots faced this season. Tonight won't have helped

Has anyone ever seen Nsiala have a good game? I can't believe he's spent as long at L1 level as he has and that Hurst has signed him 4(?) times.

Exeter are controlled with the ball but not so much without it. Shrewsbury are finding it very easy to play through them and get shots off.

Shrewsbury are performing better than I thought, however they are terrible in front of goal. Exeter having less chances but looking more dangerous this 2nd half.

There you go. Shrewsbury back to normal then. Can't believe they have played 3 games more than others around them as it stands.

Seems in every game we look like the plucky underdogs in a cup game. Usually have a good spell, gift a stupid goal away (Nsiala or Pierre), run out of steam in the second half and the opposition see out the game comfortably. Every team look much more confident on the ball.

Hursts subs rarely make an impact on the game, and are normally too late in any case. Going to be a long old season.

Well, much more like it second half. Felt we were comfortable, Magennis and Aitchison making a big difference. Our defence is excellent isn't it.
Still can't believe we are 4th.

Our game with Northampton feels like it will end in a draw, considering both clubs are basically in the same place in almost everything we're doing, budget wise, player wise, manager wise and in our all round form.

I stand by what I said in the manager thread, I can see both sides sticking with their current managers if either was to go down, there simply isn't another coach out there avaliable within our price range to come in and do a better job than what Brady and Wellens have done in the last 3/4 seasons.

As for the game, apparently we have everyone fit apart from Ethan Galbraith who is our best attacking player. I have no doubt we will continue to do what we usually do and over play in the final third, we also need to get back to doing the basics when defending.

Sixfields not the best hunting ground for us, only ever won there in the league 4 times in around 20 visits - two of which came in our first two visits back in 1995 and 1996.

A blow this week that Theo Archibald will now also miss the rest of this season after more complications with his knee, he is under contract with us till the summer. A huge blow for him, who knows what will happen to him now.

Decent win that and it reaffirms my belief that we’ve got that extra edge this season. To have the luxury to bring on Magennis and Aitchison is huge for us and both were excellent when they came on.

We started the game really well and great work by Doyle to pick the pocket of Nsiala who looks very dodgy on the ball. Great finish too. To be fair, Shrewsbury dominated the rest of the half and had some good chances. Whitworth made some good saves, but if I were a Shrews fan, I’d be frustrated at the quality of the finishing. Castledine looked a threat but always felt if we got to half time with a clean sheet, we’d be able to snuff the game out, which we did comfortably in the second half.

I thought our second goal was offside but as some people have said online, Magennis was level with the ball when it was crossed. Pleased he got his goal, he’s really deserved it.

Ref was poor, I thought and there was a penalty shout in the first half where the ball hit Woods’ hand but maybe it’s close range to the strike, meant it wasn’t given.

One other observation is Hurst looks like such an uninspiring manager. He just sits there looking bored!

So, up to fourth, not conceded in over 900 minutes and we’ve got a number of key players due to come back soon. Life is pretty good and long may that continue!

Think both clubs are looking round trying to find 4 teams worse than them

Same here, although I don't think there are for us.

Ref missed a clear trip on Aitchison for a penalty and gave a foul for nothing when we were clean through, so evened himself out really. Still, gave Hurst something to blame other than himself

That was a blatant handball last night to be fair to Hurst, actually a bit mystified why something that obvious was not given? How can they be so poor at their jobs.

No one appealed at the time. Hit it straight at him.

Our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ could have appeared at the same time, it’s still a blatant handball isn’t it?

I know this particular decision went for the team you supported, but do not back the ineptitude of the officials because you’ll be on the end of something similar before you know it.

It wasn't even seeing it as he almost hid his arms from hitting the ball, but the ref being where he was, surely he would have heard the slap the arm as the lad had a short sleeved shirt on. Absolutely no excuse for not giving a pen.

That is what fans do unless it’s totally outrageously wrong .

Home to Birmingham.

I was at the game the last time we played them - away in 2004! Crazy to think that was 20 years ago in the League Cup. They had a decent side out that day with Heskey, Savage, Upson, Dunn, Melchiot, Morrison, Yorke, Gronkjaer.

We don't give too many chances up a game but I don't think Birmingham will be as forgiving as most sides in L1, and we certainly need to take any chances we create. We got another couple of bodies back prior to the international break in Hamilton and Hackett but they've been out for 8 months and 6 months respectively so it'll take a while for them to get properly back up to speed.

Hopefully Roughan is ok (taken off at HT for ROI U21's) and House is back after his broken nose.
Mixed bag for us.

The international players have all reported back fit, Hamilton and Hackett are available to play some part and House is also fine.

Bayliss picked up knee ligament damage in a behind closed doors game against Barnsley and might need an operation and be out for quite a few weeks and Jackson still isn't 100% fit after limping off against Grimsby in the Trophy.

Bayliss we're probably ok to be without but Jackson being unavailable leaves us light at CB (and I think Jackson is a better defender than Hamer).

I said that it was a penalty, but we should have had one too. Rock is incompetent but he is for both sides.

Did they discuss it in the studio? I don't know as I was at the game

You could pretty much copy and paste that for us last season. I know we're early into the season but Shrewsbury look doomed. Amazed they stayed up last season to be honest.

The weird thing is that as poor as we were last season we weren't in the relegation zone once. It's also mad to think that Taylor had a better record than Hurst since his return. We've only won 2 league games at home since the end of January, one of which being a very poor Carlisle team.

Last night just summed us up. We played well first half, and unusually had more of the ball than Exeter. Can't help but feel part of that being due to Exeter getting the early goal and then sitting back a bit. Whitworth made sone decent teams, but our attempts give him a chance to save it, just not as clinical as the way Doyle took the first goal. Savin had no chance. They then changed things at half time and took control.
