Some of those 2 year deals seem odd to me. I understand a few of them, but a number of the others are the wrong side of their peak, and /or what you would not consider to be very "commercial". It may come back to haunt, but like Pieman says, have to wait and see.
Yeah, both us and Chorley went with very similar squads to the promotion ones at the start of the last season, in fact ours was weaker as we lost Warburton and Stott.

No one got more than a year though.

I hope you don’t go the way of Chorley.

Me neither, though I do think it will be tough going this season.

As good as this team could look when on song, it was made to look very ordinary on numerous occasions in the 2 years in the NLN, by worse teams than those you'll find in the NL.

Looking forward to it though, except Edgeley Park

Darlo's squad mostly taken shape apart from the GK situation. Alun Armstrong has said he is keeping his powder dry there, we are exploring loan options and currently have Johnathan Saltmer (ex Hull and Barrow on trial with a couple of other keepers to follow on trial over pre-season). We're apparently talking to one other midfielder, most likely Jack Lambert who was on loan here from Scunthorpe last season. Other than that think we've improved over the summer Hunt gives us experience at CB and Charman and Maguire will hopefully add extra goals.

Goalkeepers:

Defenders:
  • David Atkinson
  • Ben Hedley
  • Nicky Hunt
  • Alex Story
  • Louis Lang
  • Micheal Liddle
  • Jordan Watson

Midfielders:
  • Will Hatfield
  • Joe Wheatley
  • Sean Reid
  • Jarret Rivers
  • Justin Donawa
  • Jamie Holmes

Forwards:
  • Adam Campbell
  • Luke Charman
  • Dan Maguire

I've only seen Saltmer in last year's pre-season (he was injured for most of the season), but I would've liked us to keep him as our back-up. I was really impressed how confident he seemed for a reserve keeper and seemed a good shot stopper. Hope he earns a deal with you.

Couple more players added in the last 24hrs so here's an updated list.

Goalkeepers
Ben Hinchliffe
Josh Barnes

Defenders
Sam Minihan
Macauley Southam-Hales
Liam Hogan
Ash Palmer
Jamie Stott
Mark Kitching
James Jennings
Jordan Downing

Midfielders
Lois Maynard
Adam Thomas
John Rooney
Jordan Williams
Connor Jennings
Jordan Keane
Harvey Gilmour
Alex Curran
Ethan Coleman (on trial)

Strikers
Alex Reid
Nyal Bell
Ritchie Bennett

1st year professionals

Max Greenhalgh
Jack Hopkins

That takes us up to 21 senior players, 1 player still on trial and 2 young lads being given professional contracts from the youth team.

I would expect Alex Curran & Jordan Downing will go out on loan.

Tranmere fans are linking us with Morgan Ferrier, but i can't imagine we'd sign another big striker when we have 3 already.

Yeah but Nyal Bell and Alex Reid.....Ferrier is better than both of those.

Ferrier is not prolific enough for a team going for promotion, his all round game is good but never scores enough goals.

Maybe, but he's never had Jim Gannon as his manager has he...... ;)

Nyal Bell has his moments but is largely a very frustrating player. I like the look of Alex Reid. He's deffo got something about him.

I'm not sure we need a 20+ goals a season striker to do the business. We have a fair number of players capable of 10 - 15 goals including Connor Jennings, John Rooney, Ritchie Bennett, Alex Reid, Jordan Williams. By the sounds of it, Ferrier would be a handful and create space and opportunities for the above.

Relatively pleased with our business, although overloading on wingers has perhaps left us slightly short elsewhere. For me, we're 2 strikers light, another central midfielder and a versatile full back. Would take us to 23 players which is possibly too many, so I think we'll be looking at 3 at the back more often than not with the lack of depth at full back.

Can see us challenging to bounce back straight away, but time will tell.

We’ve been confident enough to come out and say that’s us done, so our squad for this season is:

Goalkeepers:
Sam Slocombe
Luke Pilling
Tiernan Brooks

Right backs:
Richard Brindley
Dion Kelly-Evans

Left backs:
Damien McCrory
Adam Chicksen

Centre backs:
Connell Rawinson
Alex Lacey
Sam Graham
Ben Turner

Central midfielders:
Jake Reeves
Michael Doyle
Jim O’Brien
Casper Sloth

Wingers:
Enzio Boldewijn
Cal Roberts
Ruben Rodrigues

Forwards:
Kyle Wootton
Wes Thomas
Elisha Sam
Jimmy Knowles

Hard to pick holes in it really - I think it’s a stronger squad than the one that ended last season, which should mean that we’re there or there abouts. The defensive strength in depth is ridiculous, we can put out two back fours that are top quality for this level, but we’re a bit more reliant on individuals further up the pitch.

We would really struggle if either Wootton or Roberts got injured for any length of time, I think (or was sold), but otherwise I’ve no complaints. It’ll be interesting to see how the three foreign lads do.

We will almost definitely sign Horsfield if he gets through another friendly, and that will be the CB/RB/CM position filled. Sure Carra can play there too if push comes to shove

Horsefield has agreed a deal after proving his fitness. So an updated team :

Lainton

Hall-Johnson
Kelleher
Pearson
Vassell
Reckford

Horsefield
Harris
Jarvis

Ponticelli
Yusseff

Dibble, Young, Durrell, Thomas, Carrington

This has been one of our best summer transfer windows.

Ours is

Adam Smith

Daniel leadbitter
Luke Wilkinson
Lee Collins
Josh Staunton
Carl Dickinson

Matt worthington
Lawson D’ath
Charlie Lee
Jimmy Smith
Albi Skendi
Jack Clarke
Gabby Rogers
Alex John

Rhys Murphy
Courtney Duffus

And we’ve been told that’s it until fans are guaranteed back other than a few young loans. We had to call off a deal for a striker after the government announcement the other day. Other than keeper Harry Palmer who was at Ebbsfleet last year and would be our number 2 if signed, all trialists have been released as it would be selling them a false hope. Which is all a little worrying.

Following the signing of Neill Byrne our squad is almost complete. Pete Wild says he only wants a backup keeper and one other to provide a bit of depth. My guess would be a striker as we are lacking a bit of depth there and Stenson has just been ruled out for 6 weeks.

Considering we've lost some key players in Brown, Duckworth, Staunton and Cam King, I don't think he's done a bad job putting a squad together. Biggest question marks for me are right back and midfield but overall, i'm fairly impressed on paper.

Just hope the season goes ahead now, best pre-season we've had in a long time in terms of being pro-active and getting things done in good time rather than scrambling players no else wants at the last minute

Midfield is ludicrously strong. 3 places usually up for grabs between Maynard, Rooney, Croasdale, Keane, Gilmour and Connor Jennings.
