Saints fans must be laughing their heads off. FFS Rodgers, letting your centre half take the 5th penalty. :gmc:

Last team to overturn a 2 goal deficit in the 2nd leg was something like 40 years ago. HASHTAG JUST SAYING

Any data on the last team to win the Europa League after being eliminated? HASHTAG YOU BROUGHT THIS UPON YOURSELF.

On a serious note, an extra 30 minutes of football probably isn't what a thin squad needed before a crucial match with Man City at the weekend.

Why didn't Sterling take one. Is he a coward?

Was just thinking that myself. I was actually hoping both Spurs and Liverpool would progress and spread their squads as much as possible.

Lovren will get all the shit, which is unfair. Sturrdige and Sterling had plenty of opportunity in the first half to end the tie, but squandered lots of good chances without ever really even testing the keeper. Then Rodgers decides that watching the side get absolutely fucking rolled over for the first 20 minutes of the second half isn't such a bad thing, and just rolled with it without making a change. By the time he's decided it's probably time to sort that out, it's too fucking late. He's taken off Balo and Sturridge, two people you'd expect to take pens. Balo, ok, he was on a yellow and at that point pens were a long way off. But with 15 minutes to penalties, taking off one pen taker for another doesn't seem too clever given Liverpool were hardly trying to win it in ET. Crap management. Also far more technically gifted players were still on that pitch to take a penalty but Lovren was the one with the bollocks to take the pressure penalty. Better players have missed. Just not in this match!

When I saw it was Dejan Lovren for the a pen with that much pressure on it I knew he would miss. Why he was chosen??!

Genuine question: Does anyone else feel Rodgers is more to blame for Liverpool's European failures this season than Wenger is to blame for the 3-1 defeat yesterday? JimJams has given an excellent run-down of his strange substitutions.

I think when it comes to penalties its more about who volunteers than who the manager picks.

I suspect forcing a player to take a penalty is a sure fire way to having that penalty missed

He probably did volunteer, but you wouldn't put a CB either first or fifth unless they normally take pens would you?

Stupid decision.

Nice to see it means so much to the Besiktas players in their celebrations.

To be fair to Bilo, I said my piece in yesterday's match thread and turned the laptop off. Better to distract yourself than keep thinking about how miserable pinning your emotions to a football team actually is.

Granted, this is just the Europa League.

Huh? Is that just when the team's been playing away from home (in the second leg)?
No idea. It was something said on football weekly that I half heard on the way home. I just wanted to get all up in some grillz. Thespus seems to have got a victory out of it so we're all happy, in a way.

Brendan (Bro, the nickname that will take off any day now) got it all wrong tonight. Did nothing for too long when the midfield was clearly flooded and lovren... Big credit to him for stepping up to take one considering the season he's had but why Bro (I'm sticking with it) put him at 5th I don't know. Surely Moreno is a better choice?

If I liked in Sweden I'd be more worried about banging women than a football result

I've worried more about that in every country I've lived in.

Apart from America now — because if you bang birds here "you're a freak" or "support bestiality" or "that's my parakeet your prick".

I don't understand him at all. Sexy blonde Swedish girls aside, the football looks ace. Often see plenty of stuff online featuring the likes of AIK or Malmo, makes English football look shite.

Edit - If it wasn't about seven quid a pint I'd probably move out there myself.

Disappointed we lost, but could be a blessing in disguise. With Spurs going out, Arsenal soon, top 4 would have been difficult for us with the quality of our squad. We had two options, going for both probably would have left us with nothing at the end, but now we have to make sure we finish in top 4.

Yes, it's great news you've been knocked out of European competition so you can now focus on qualifying for next years European competition.
