Been waiting for this first ever competitive game between the 2 clubs all my life. Obviously we are a much smaller club than our rivals from 12 miles down the A38 but we meet on level terms.
We have nothing to lose and are the underdogs which will suit us, all the pressure is on the sheep.
The match is a sell out and on Sky and the atmosphere should be electric.
Come on you Brewers !

Tough game for us as it's being built up to something it really shouldn't be. Hopefully we can find some extra motivation and rise to the occasion as no doubt Nigel will have his boys pumped.

If we take 45 minutes to get going again we're in for a long old night.

I think it means more than us than it does to you in fairness - hope the players feel the same...
I still predict you will finish top 6 despise an indifferent start- but takes time for the manager to find his best team. And he will get it right.
Hopefully he gets it wrong on Friday...

Being built up to something it really shouldn't be. Why shouldn't it be. I have supported Albion all my life and for me its a massive occasion. Don't expect to get anything from the game but if we could get one up on the sheep with their multi-million squad that would be something special and put us above them for the first time in history.

By built up to something it shouldn't be, I presume you mean like a derby (not Derby) game?
If so then I don't see why not, though I can see why Burton fans would view it as a bigger game than Derby ones.
There's only 12 miles between you, I literally walked that distance to see our game against Newcastle on Saturday, and if you look at it from a Burton fans view it's is (one of?) the closest league match(es) they have, a team who were in the premier league a few years back, at a time when they were aiming for/consolidating league football. (I can't remember the exact seasons for either club, but it was a similar time frame).
Ground to ground the distance is less than from yourselves to Forest- not for a second suggesting it should be that kind of scale, with other factors taken into account (Clough being one). But it is a local game, and if for example Bath City became a Championship club I would see that as a bit of a derby, though behind both Rovers and Cardiff respectively.
For Burton it's a local game against a bigger club who not too long ago were 4 or more divisions above them, whereas I suppose for Derby fans it's a game against the plucky overachieving club down the A38. So I can see the different viewpoints, but Burton will, and already have, surprised teams this season, and I won't be shocked if they are playing against you in 2 more league games next season.

Good post that City 169. Should also add that Burton is in Staffordshire and famous for beer whilst the sheep come from Derbyshire and are famous for tuppin em !

Because we don't need it to be something it's not, you do. No matter how many times you and others keep dropping tags like "sheep" or "rivals" into it there will be no hatred in this tie for a long long time. If we played Mickleover Sports in the cup would there be a hatred? Would there be a rivalry? It's a local game of course but when half of our fan base actually look out for their scores, go watch them when Derby are away and wish them well there's never going to be any sort of rivalry. The same applies here, I haven't met a Derby fan yet that's not pleased for Burton's uprising in recent years. Friday is a competitive match so the will to win will be just like any other game at this level.

I don't see Burton as plucky or overachieving. You only have to look at the size of some clubs in the Premier League and others that are in League One and Two to see what club size actually means when 3pm on a Saturday comes.. Football's not about how big a club is, such a boring topic which run of the mill clubs get ate up about. Burton deserve to be up here, I hope they can sustain it too. Just leave all the boring rivalry crap out of it.

I used to feel like this about Walsall many years ago, I'd been to their ground a few times and used to keep an eye out for their scores in a 'local lower league team' fashion until they finally made it into our division, I went to our matches and the ill feeling and hostility toward us made me think oh ok, you can fuck off then. I still don't see them as rivals in any capacity but I also wouldn't wish them a shred of good will either.

Meh. I'm on nights. Would've been there if it hadn't been moved. Couldn't swap shifts at such short notice. I hate Sky (apart from the money we're getting).

Don't get the manufactured rivalry myself either. I obviously want us to win because we need the points, the locality makes it a big game and it's our first competitive meeting but I won't be frothing at the mouth when I'm following the game Friday night and I know there will be loads of Derby fans in the home ends. I work with some of them :bg:

1-1 for me.

Except you haven't sold out yet. Your chairman was appealing for fans to buy tickets yesterday afternoon.

Anyway, love Burton and hope they do well this season. We're rubbish, so you should win.

Won't sell out because of the idiotic ticketing arrangement's we have
I think it would be easier to book a holiday to North fuckin Korea than go through the all the claptrap required to get a ticket.

What were the alternatives though? If we made it general sale from the off then you end up with 2000 Burton supporters and nearly 5000 away fans due to our small supporter base and their massive one. There had to be a restriction on home ticket sales to protect our supporters otherwise you alienate them. The way I understand it all Burton supporters who wanted a ticket for Friday night have got one and we won't be far off a sell out which is good enough for me. I really don't get the commotion over our ticketing policy this season.

Derby have only scored in one league game this season haven't they?
Not hard to see why, the look awful. No plan at all.

I thought our result against Burton was a good one, seems that's the case.

So so so so poor BUT I'm not surprised. We've taken a team who play a certain way that involves movement and short passes to a team that looks devoid of how to play. Hughes playing too deep AGAIN. He's not a defensive midfielder yet seems to find himself there all the time. I'd not blame him for wanting a move.

I have never, ever, seen Will Hughes play well. Ever. Surely a reason he is still in the Championship after all this time?

Forest fans have always said he is shit. Guessing you didn't watch any game at the end of last season where he ran the game at Brighton and at hull?

Once this ends, I'll have seen 1 goal in 480 minutes of football (league and cup) this season.

Wow. It sounds like we were hanging on a bit at the end but a great night for the club. First clean sheet of the season as well after letting so many goals in since the season started. Got a feeling the return at the iPro in Jan will be a totally different story but I'll enjoy this run while it lasts :cool1:

You weren't. We created nothing, and never once looked a threat. Easiest win of the season for you.

Fair play Burton, deserved it on pure effort and desire to win the football game.

A poor night again for us. I expected us to struggle in the initial transitional period under NP but were gradually getting worse. It's going to take some time to sort these lot out. I'd like to think he knows a bit more about certain players from the showings so far this year and we see some leave the club.
