Not really sure of where else this could go, but I just thought this was rather interesting, though obviously compiled before the play-off final. Some teams massively underachieving here, while Brentford's impressive season last year and our general "success" of the last few years is really highlighed here.

Wow didn’t realise we were literally the only club without a money man.

Only thing is just because the owner is wealthy doesn’t mean they are necessarily piling that wealth into the footbal club. No way Barnsley are having A fraction of that 7billion spent on them whereas Benham seems fully invested, literally and figuratively in Brentford.

There is more chance of me getting a date with Kelly Brook than Wycombe staying up.

Aye, Hemmings is supposedly worth double Mel Morris but invests far, far less.

Good to see money coming in the sport due to billionaire owners but not sure what would be the long-term effects. I hope they don't run it like just another business.

How does a fan owned club operate? Who manages funds and pays players etc?

Some passing statistics from the season so far. With our penchant for possession-based passing football, it's probably not too surprising to see us have more players than any other team represented in those two lists (though let's just gloss over the fact that Rupp and Skipp are probably mostly there for sideways/backwards passes).

Given the kind of statistics Buendia was coming up with in our awful Prem campaign last season (if I'm remembering right, only four players in the entire league created more chances than he did), I'm not too surprised to see him comfortably at the top in terms of "key passes". I am pleased for him, though, as he's arguably not been fully with it mentally until the last few games because of all the transfer speculation around him, so really he's only going to get better from here hopefully. At the very least, he'll once again be absolutely essential for us if we are to secure a return to the top flight.

Ledson's improvement over the last 7 or 8 months has been massive.

A year ago I would have happily seen him released on a free, now it's hard to see him dropping out of the first eleven.

They’ve been chucking money at trying to get into the premier league for the better part of a decade and not getting very far with it so wouldn’t be that surprising. You never want to see it though.

You don't want the fans to see it of course. But Derby didn't get to this point overnight.

They tried to screw the system and all other clubs in this division, with the sale of the stadium but got away with it. They then screwed FFP and got a bookmaker to pay Wayne Rooney's £80k a week wages.

They are everything that is wrong with this division.

I see the mail (yeah i know) are reporting that the clubs will be rejecting the proposed salary cap, which was set at 18 million, for next season. So it will be just Leagues 1 & 2 who will be going forward with there cap proposals.

And they are now significantly in debt also to an American investment house with the stadium owned by Mel Morris up as security. The situation has been allowed to get so out of control there.

Say what you like about the limitations of FFP, P&S rules and FAPP test, but this is where the EFL should be really stepping in.

Our game vs Millwall in February has been selected for Sky coverage again. All 4 games against them since we have come back up have been selected for coverage. Wish they would stop trying to make it some kind of contrived rivalry - despite the famed incident I’ve never viewed them as anything other than another London team and a reasonably close game. QPR are far more of a relevant team to most I think.

Even more bizarre they keep picking it when they didn’t show the Watford game earlier in the season in favour of Swansea Wycombe of all games.

Probably to meet minimum TV requirements per side. The two lowest rating sides playing against each other.

Not sure what the stat is after this weekends games and Brentford putting a healthy dent in it (imagine conceding 7 away to them :animatedf:) but read elsewhere that goals in the Championship this season are down 19% on previous seasons, which is a pretty precipitous drop off. Does seem to be a real lack of quality this season compared to last from the games I have seen.

We arent exactly helping matters ourselves particularly in the attacking sense but does feel this season there are more teams who are more defensivley orientated than in previous seasons. A lot of teams looking to keep it tight and not concede and to perhaps make a go of it if still level with 15 to go. State of the pitches cant help either.

Sheffield Wednesday have failed to pay their Jan 2021 wages.

If there isn’t any prior agreement with the staff, it should result in an immediate 6 point deduction, no questions asked.

Yes both our fans and theirs not happy atm...
Norwich have the poorer overall squad of the three but they have stability in the coaching team and a bit more graft about them. Very similar to when Burnley came down and went straight back up last time round.

Yes - we just cannot score goals meaning our whilst our defence is good if they have an off day/night we will lose matches.

Mind you some of our fans have gone a bit OTT in their reaction after the other night wanting answers from the board and demanding another sacking in some cases!

I mean the reason we have a really inexperienced coach is probably because no-one with a good reputation or experience wants to come.

I doubt that will do any good - Andre Gray and Troy Deeney just aren't the strikers they once were.

It's not like we're bottom half or something although sometimes performed like one.

We just need to be and work out a bit of a long term plan if we don't get promoted and recover from the issues COVID has brought for everyone.

The good thing for yourselves and Bournemouth is that this season the league seems to overall be weaker, with only a few real standout sides among the ranks of dross. If you put this Watford or Bournemouth side, or even our current side, into the Championship we got promoted from two years ago, I'd be impressed to see any of them in the play-off positions.

This season, being solid but unspectacular might well be enough for you, while Bournemouth will probably be relying on getting their next managerial appointment right to beat out the likes of Middlesbrough and Stoke for the final play-off place.

Yes - we have hardly scored away from home but still manged to pick up points and are 5th

But then I think that is some of the frustration - a few more goals and we could be where you are.

Not that is squad is anywhere Premier league quality - we'd need about 15 new players if we went up and that wouldn't happen.

We'll probably just end up sacking the manager again and going around in the same old cycle when its probably the players who need to take some responsibility.

For us, I'd say our squad is much more balanced than it was last time we got promoted - we're far, far better defensively now for example and have more of a plan B courtesy of Hugill - but I would be hard-pressed to say we're better so much as just very efficient. Our attacking football is nowhere near the quality of two years ago, but how we're playing is mostly still proving enough to get us by.

But, as with yourselves (perhaps even more so given how bad we were last season), our squad is nowhere near Premier League quality and there's zero chance our board sanction the type of spending we'd need to get a competitive squad for the step-up (not least because we'll have obligations for signing Giannoulis and Gibson for a combined £15/16 million if we do go up) and we'll just be back here again 12 months later.
