MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head

  • This is their third FA Cup meeting in four seasons. Manchester City won the previous two: knocking out holders Chelsea in an enthralling 2013 semi-final and then enjoying a convincing 2-0 home win in the fifth round in 2014.
  • Chelsea have only lost once in the last 17 meetings at Stamford Bridge - a 4-2 league defeat in February 2010 when they had Juliano Belletti and Michael Ballack sent off.
Chelsea

  • The Blues are in the fifth round for the 16th time in 18 seasons.
  • Their only defeat in the last 29 FA Cup games at Stamford Bridge came after they surrendered a 2-0 lead against League One Bradford in last season's fourth round (W24, D4, L1).
  • Six of their seven FA Cup trophy wins have come in the last 19 years. They have won five FA Cup finals in the 21st century - the joint most with Arsenal.
  • Guus Hiddink has won all five of his FA Cup matches in charge of Chelsea.
Manchester City

  • Manchester City won the trophy for the fifth time when they beat Stoke in 2011, but they were beaten by Wigan in the final in 2013.
  • They have not lost an away tie in the FA Cup for six years since a 3-1 fifth-round replay defeat by Stoke after extra-time (W3, D3).
  • City beat Premier League opposition away in each of the previous two rounds: 3-0 v Norwich and 4-0 v Aston Villa.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Apparently five of the regulars from City's u21 side are missing from today's game, and expected to be involved tomorrow.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini prepares to make wholesale changes for Chelsea and tells fans: 'It's not a real game'
Understandable..already in the final of a similar cup. This one is a nothing cup for City.

It's more that they have a CL game a few days later.

Should have been played on Saturday.

"I always give importance to the cups" - Manuel Pellegrini.

Sure thing, Manuel.

They've said all along that they are going to play the kids. Perhaps one or two will catch the eye.

Shearer is ripping Manchester City apart for the decision to field that side.

They do have a few injuries so I can understand some changes but I'd expect them to do the resting during the Champions League game - seeing as they like to tell everyone who will listen that they "don't care" about the competition.

Very interesting development.

Feel for Adarabioyo. Imagine getting your debut and being partnered with that waste. If he comes through this positively fast track him to Kompanys side. Nacho always does well and in the short time Celina got against Leicester he wasn't bad, got an assist.

Nice to see Costa getting his face shoved into the pitch.

Just when Silkyman thought he'd seen the last of me by blocking me, Smat begins to quote my posts in Manchester City threads.

Oh the humanity!

Why?

Shame that the most experienced City player on the pitch is the one letting the kids down. Hart in nets here and this is a close game still.

Oscar took pity on the young keeper and placed a sportingly shit penalty into his soft, inexperienced hands.

Jesus there really are different rules for penalties for and against City. Good save though.

I hope not.

What the fuck is this? I don't mind my brilliant and genius football mind being proven right time and again (I said City were rubbish yesterday) but this must be the biggest morale booster Chelsea could get after the CL defeat!

Saying that, where are all the Chelsea fans gone?
