Our fans seem to like him a lot. Never met him myself, so cant really comment on whether he's a "top bloke".

He is.

And he wont be "competition for Maxted" he'll be undisputed no.1. He's in a different league.

Sadly he turned out to be pretty average to put it kindly. Still good at one-on-ones, but repeatedly beaten from distance (in a similar manner to Harts chocolate wrists the other night), and with the ball to his feet he is woful.

With hindsight, it was a major error or judgement sacking off the excellent Adam Bartlett for what was meant to be an upgrade. But we move on and hopefully Johnson is better than both.

Just confirmed that Darren Stevenson has joined Tranmere for a " club record fee", very sorry to see Daz go but it must have been a good deal and we will never stand in the way of a player bettering himself. Good luck Darren.

What can we expect? Seems like a decent signing. I've heard mention of pace and Darren's scoring record is decent, but he was out for a spell with a bad injury. Presume we paid in the region of £40k to break previous Chorley transfer record.

Vidal started great last season. He's an attacking full back, loves getting forward and puts in some full blooded challenges (some might say dangerous?)

Unfortunately he has a history of injuries and spent most of last season injured or returning from injury and not fully fit.

Oh joy! He'll fit right in here then with Olli Johnson and Nicky Clee. Sounds like Bowser has him earmarked for midfield though. Thanks for the info :)

Disagree strongly. Think Maxted will be number wang.

I always thought Russell was above average with the ball at his feet and a decent shot stopper, but coming for crosses was his weakness. Possible that he deteriorated badly since he left us. Although I think our fans have rose-tinted glasses about how good he was the first time.

Maxted's distribution was first class, when allowed by the previous manager (who usually wanted them to slow things down to allow support to first get up and support the striker, before getting them to pump it long), his shot stopping also decent, plus think he's an upgrade on both Russell and Arnold on dealing with crosses.

I haven't seen anything that shows me Maxted is better than Arnold or Russell? The amount of times I saw him parry the ball out to opposition players was terrible, division making wasn't too good either, made a couple of okay saves but nothing special at all,

If he wasn't a youngster you wouldn't be rating him so highly, remember he got released by hartlepool and that says it all...

So he can have another good pre season game and certain fgr fans can act like he's buffon again?

Haha very true. Some of our fans have a tendency to massively overate players based on very little actual facts..

Maxted is a very average keeper who wouldn't get into most of the better sides in this league, and he was helped by having an outstanding defence playing in front of him during the early part of last season. He is still young and might improve, but if we want to win the league we need better. Hopefully Sam will be that.

Vidal looks like a walking red card judging by those clips
Haha I agree and thought the same last pre-season, but he actually timed a tackle very well, the injury on Ashton was completely accidental, it was a strong tackle, but he got the ball and followed through.

Three more in for us although I've no idea if they will prove to be improvements over those released. At least two of them will be known to some of you. Thoughts?

Javan Vidal (Wrexham)
Danny East (Grimsby)
Ashley Palmer (North Ferriby)

Danny East started out as our 1st choice right back but then once the Taitster got in with the form he was in East had no hope of getting back in.
He was then played quite a lot out of position so hard to really judge how good he was but i would say that (sorry this will sound patronising but i don't mean it to be) for yourselves where i would expect the target to be survival, he will turn out to be an excellent signing and he is another one who certainly doesn't lack effort.
Good luck hope it works out.

Not patronising at all, our clubs are competing at a totally different level financially. We have to make the very best of the budget we can afford, it sounds as though 'Easty' fits that bill which is great. He'll get a regular right back spot with us so it suits him too.
Thanks for the info :)

Steve Watson confirmed as our new assistant manager. Was helping Askey out towards the end of last season anyway so no real surprise.

Fenwick is absolute pony. You will be lucky to get 8 goals from him even if he played every single minute
