Why is Craig Tanner now at Ebbsfleet? I thought he’d be with you lads for a season or two and find himself back in the Football League!

Yes, I assumed that if he’d either stay in the National League or get a league 2 club this summer so was surprised when he dropped down to the NLS. You can see he’s clearly FL standard, but he struggled with another long term injury last season that kept him out for the majority of the season unfortunately. I also expect Ebbsfleet offered him significantly more than we could afford.

That’s his issue; injuries. I think it’s two he’s had now which have left him ruled out for ages. He was a good little player when he was here, but his career only seems to of gone backwards.

Aldershot (and Boreham Wood, apparently )
Why has this been done now and not weeks ago?
Things are always done in secrecy at Aldershot, we are always the last to know about anything.
We are relying again on the “drip-down” tactic, which means in practice we end up with the leftovers, and decent players with long-term injuries.
Not to worry, International Harry Panaytioau is set to re-sign shortly, his agent having propagated the rumour that he is being courted by various EFLclubs. Oh joy..

Is he an attacking mid or a striker?
Very attacking midfielder, more of a deep forward, your typical modern no. 10 who links up the midfield with the striker. Good at running with the ball and spraying it around, has an excellent free-kick on him & an eye for goal. Of course, my views on him are biased since I saw him at NLN level which he was far too good for, and obviously there must be reasons he hasn't gone on to succeed in the Football League. But I'm sure he won't disappoint at this level.

Have Eastleigh still got a bit of money behind them?

You are biased, he just did fail at this level with Yeovil so not sure how you can be sure he won’t again. And spraying the ball around for us? Don’t remember passing being a big part of his game either.

Saying all that, he’s had a tough time since leaving us and hope he gets his mojo back at Halifax and shows what he’s capable.

They must have, their crowds are way below what they announce whenever I’ve attended and probably announce cheap season tickets in the crowds even if they don't show up.

Solihull have signed Danny Newton from Stevenage - cracking pick up for them. They’re play-off contenders for sure.

Just noticed Eastleigh have signed Jake Hesketh after his release by Southampton.

Was at Crawley on loan last season and did very well but seemed to be injured a lot. Dodgy hamstrings was what was said. Not something you can play through.

If he stays fit he is a really good signing.

Eastleigh going for it. They resigned Josh Hare who was brilliant at this level a few years ago. Such a tough league this year.

Definitely going to be a force, they finished the season strong, so I was already expecting them to be up there, more so now.

Very good signing. I don't know what he was like last season but I've thought he was one of the better forwards I'd seen against us in L2 on a couple of occasions. Would have been chuffed with him here.

Any Ardley team is drawing way too many games to trouble top spot, but I think they’ll get top seven.

There’s about 15 teams getting top 7 according to this forum.

Solihull will be up there.

I know very little about this Newton but if he's that good, why are League Two bottom half dwellers Stevenage letting him go? And no League Two club picking him up? The first thing clubs should be looking at is what is under the sauce with these players. There are a lot of knackered bodies knocking about the lower leagues. Again, I'm not saying this is the case with Newton but it begs the question. I remember Solihull last season having all sorts of well versed Football League names on their books, Rooney, Jamie Ward, Gleeson. You looked at a team sheet and they all never played. Last pay day and all that.

I genuinely think at least 13 or 14 wouldn’t be wrong in thinking they could get there.

He’s been injured a lot in the last few years. He’s not a big goal scorer but he’s a work horse and a nightmare for defenders. He’s from that neck of the woods too I believe.

Well there you go, injuries. I'm not knocking him or Solihull by the way. He could be brilliant. I'm just saying that people go overboard with signings.

Someone mentioned Harry Pritchard before signing for Eastleigh. Quick google search

Later that month he suffered a back spasm during a match and had to be substituted.[15] In December 2019 he called on a team effort to score more goals,[16] while his performances were praised by Bowyer.[17] He suffered an injury later that month, with Bowyer not willing to rush him back.[18] He returned to the first team later that month.[19]

At the start of the 2020–21 season, Pritchard said he was working hard to make his way into the first team after his appearances had been restricted.[20] In March 2021 it was announced that Pritchard would undergo back surgery and would be out of action for a number of months.[21] On 12 May 2021 he was one of nine players that Bradford City announced would leave the club on 30 June 2021 when their contracts expire.[22][23]

In August 2021 he signed for Eastleigh.[24]

I wouldn't touch him with yours.

I didn’t realise how poor his recent injury record was. He was one of the best wingers at this level in 17/18

Newton should prove to be an excellent signing for Solihull, he was very impressive in the times he came up against us in L2. His lack of goals at L2 level (first season aside) probably worked against him because his type of striker isn't one who's going to get a top L2 type move. You need a bit more in and around the box than what he offers.

He's deceptively good in the air given his height, strong, decent touch, works really hard and has a good turn of pace as well. Probably not too different to Ben Tomlinson for those who remember him.

Every player signed from a L2 team

L2 fans: Hes too good for non league, he'll rip it up down there.
If Matt Green signs for a team down here I can guarantee not a single Grimsby fan will say that.
(I know we’re not League 2 anymore but we were while he was playing).

And he was hardly ever absent with injury as well.
Would have him back in an instant.

Sutton- arrive with no particular expectation or ambition, happy to be a non league club, just hoping to stay in the division. A few months in, they realise the "big" teams are all mouth, are actually quite shambolic, decide "hey, why not us?". Stay in and around for a couple of seasons before stepping up and striding away into the Football League. I'm hearing a LOT of mouth here............ :ds:
