Dunne has looked horribly shot for the past 18 months. Southend look more and more likely to be in a relegation battle with every decision they make. Brown has no understanding of football at this level and seems to be stuck in a time warp.

I mean whilst it’s never that simple, a team with Akinola Murphy and Holmes (is he staying?) should have the firepower to stave off relegation.

However, should, would, could - but possibly

So Phil Brown’s aim of winning 100 games in the next 3 seasons is looking not too good a bet then?

thats a bold claim. Is Phil Brown secretly ChrisFGR? how many goals are his strikers going to score?

When things are a mess behind the scenes everything can go off the rails. Fylde went down with Danny Rowe up top

I think it’s fair to say that he probably didn’t do the Maths in his head before coming out with that statement, unless he thinks that they are going to get 100+ points three seasons running.

Yes. We managed to get relegated from the football league with the likes of Kristian Dennis, Kane Hemmings, Nathan Thomas and Enzio Boldewijn in the squad, not to mention Jon Stead, David Vaughan and recent title winner Rob Milsom. Even Macclesfield finished above us, and they didn’t pay their players for the last 4 months of the season.

Thomas was absolutely terrible, to be fair.

First two departures for us:

Reuben Noble-Lazarus, who never played a game for us. Injuries the story of his season/career. Shame as he was really highly rated by his fellow players in training.

Second departure being Danny Williams. A steady left wing back but personally think it’s the right decision. We need better if we want to push on.

At what point do we start getting labelled in the same bracket as moneybags Fleetwood, Crawley, Salford etc al? Our first summer signing is Kieran Kennedy, played 32 times in our league win from a few years ago!

How was he at Wrexhan since?

I liked him when he was here a couple of years ago, thought he would be a solid national league defender and a nice bloke to boot. Not sure how he never managed to get any gametime at York as he looked talented enough to play above that level and is far better than the level you're currently at. Maybe he's not got a lot of motivation.

If I'm wrong on that last bit though that's a hell of a signing for you.

he played for and against us in League 2. I felt one week he could be the best player on the pitch and next week the worst.

Common theme amongst his previous clubs, we clearly got the elite version of Nathan Thomas, consistently brilliant, bought for peanuts and sold on for £300,000.

I think that move to Sheffield United (or more likely them progressing so quickly after he did) didn’t do him much good footballing wise. Just sat on a big contract for years and kept going out on loan without settling anywhere.

2 year contract at Step 5!? Yup, fully deserving of the Fleetwood, Crawley, Salford tag after that.

wow thats some drop for him. I really liked him and would have been happy to stay with us, he's still fairly young too so in theory could be with you all the way up the leagues. Some signing at your level!

Seems to just want a couple of seasons as a regular starter as he's been a fringe player with most of his recent clubs (Wrexham aside).

The cynic in me says that it's a complete waste of money for the level we're currently at, but an outstanding signing all the same. I do hope we're saving some of this new-found cash for a few years down the line when the opposition gets tougher though.

As expected, brought not just for his football but everything else he brings to the squad.

Hurst says:

"He is a great role model, especially to the younger players that we have and he will play a big part in the dressing room and in the squad and that's without talking about what he can do on the pitch."

That's something to learn from us, signing players like Trundle when we absolutely didn't need to.

In a way though a marquee signing like Kennedy might pique interest of any unsure fans. We did something similar with Andy Burgess when we started up again with him dropping 4 leagues, although he lasted about 2 months in the end.

some more from our official news - you gazumped us in the 11th hour!!

Wrexham AFC can confirm captain Shaun Pearson will leave the Club to re-join his former side, Grimsby Town.

As confirmed in the retained list, the Club had offered Pearson a new contract for the 2021/22 season – and had, in fact, agreed terms with the 32-year-old defender.

However, after drawing up a contract and with Pearson set to sign it on Tuesday afternoon, he informed the club just before that he had received another offer from the Mariners.

With his wife and her family from Grimsby, and with her family still based there, Shaun has consequently elected to return to Blundell Park.

Explaining the last-minute u-turn, Pearson told the club website: “Tuesday morning I woke up expecting to negotiate a new deal with Wrexham; we talked and I came to an agreement with Shaun Harvey and was going to come back in to sign it that afternoon.

“I was planning to come back at 4pm, but then just past 3pm I got a phone call from Grimsby. I phoned Shaun and asked for time to think about it and listen to the offer.

“A lot of other clubs I wouldn’t have been interested. Not being disrespectful to other clubs but we’re settled here, we’re happy here – family life, kids in school etc.

“If the documentary shows what I think it will show, people will see how happy we are in Wrexham, but if there was one club who was going to pull on my heartstrings it was definitely Grimsby Town.

“I felt I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to return to Grimsby.”

Pearson first signed for Wrexham in 2017 and was immediately installed as club captain – finishing his maiden campaign as Player of the Season.

The defender scored five goals in that season, including the winner in the cross-border derby against Chester, and went one better in the following campaign as he finished joint-top scorer with six.

Most recently, he overcame injury and surgery on his foot to play 15 league games in the 2020/21 season and scored his 12th and final Wrexham goal in the win against Yeovil.

Reflecting on his time at the Racecourse, Pearson – who leaves with 132 league appearances to his name – said: “It definitely has been crazy at times, but I’ve loved every minute of it – not just playing for the Football Club but living in the town as well. I’ve made friends here that will be friends for life.

“We’re really excited on one hand, we’re super-excited to go back to Grimsby, but at the same time to leave everything we’ve got here, we’ll be very sad to go.

“The Chester away game was obviously the stand-out but also the home game against Tranmere when we drew 2-2 – it wasn’t a win but that was among the best I’ve felt at the Racecourse. The place was rocking, with both sets of fans.

“I’d like to think I’ve given everything I can for this Football Club. Unfortunately it’s not been enough to get the promotion we all wanted but I would like to wish the club all the best for next season… except for the two games we play against each other!”

And Pearson expects a bright future for Wrexham, following the takeover of the club by new co-chairmen Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

Upon leaving the Racecourse, he added: “Wrexham are at the start of something potentially absolutely massive.

“If they get it right, it could really take off and I’d say to the fans to enjoy the ride. From what we know, it’s going to be a wonderful place and I’m sure they’ll bring in a good level of player with the backing they now have.

“As I’ve said, apart from when they play Grimsby Town, I hope it will be us as a top two and if we both go up that would be best-case scenario.”

Wrexham AFC would like to place on record our thanks to Shaun for his commitment and efforts, on and off the pitch, during the last four seasons and wish him well for the future.

did I see there was a trialists game against your youth lined up? any leaks?

Fans would have definitlely liked to have kept him for another season but the manager felt otherwise

Well from his interview he obviously preferred dealing with Jason Stockwood than Shaun Harvey, and who can blame him
