We've signed Sam Dalby

Who he?
We had him on loan last season. Unremarkable. Had very little impact. Was soon sent packing and I think ended up at Woking where he didn't seem to do a lot either.

We had him on loan for 3 or 4 games last season.

Did sweet FA an was sent back to Watford.
Not like we don't have the ball or get in the final third either. You'd have sympathy if we stuck him in a 4-5-1 and sat in and hoofed it up to a lone frontman. But we seemed to be playing with 10 men he was contributing that little.

Here's the background on our official site. If PB can bring out half as much from him as he did with Barry Corr, he will be a great investment at his age, but as with any signing, it's a gamble and we need to play to his strength's. At least that's three strikers on the books now, 2 more than last season's first team!

I’ll never forget when our old idiot owners back in 2016 basically made our management play Dalby when he was just 16 years old. For a kid of that age, he had talent but it was clearly too early for him. He scored on his debut and IMO he was forced to play from that moment onwards, he showed the odd bit of talent but it was a good example of not putting youngsters in too early.

A shame not to see him press on, I always thought with a bit of time he’d do well enough in the game.

He still is only a 21 year old kid and has moved around a lot hopefully now a permanent move with first team football he can kick on. It’s encouraging to know he has shown potential in the past

If he is going to be a first choice player for them then they’re definitely getting relegated. He’s just not NL standard.
Tbh, most of our squad aren't NL standard, which is why we struggled last season, and will again this time out. What helped us enormously last season was some quality loan signings, which we're unlikely to be able to match again. In truth, we're a decent enough NLS side who got lucky in the play-offs. Even there, though, we'd be up against the likes of Dorking, whose owner/chairman/manager has made it abundantly clear he's prepared to spend whatever it takes to get them promoted, and we just can't compete with that. On the other hand, the players are a good bunch who'll give it all they've got, and if McBurnie does likewise, that's about all we can ask.

Was on trial with us at the weekend, didn’t look remarkable but he had a tough job on his hands that game.

From what I’ve heard he is lacking in confidence after his time at Watford but he doesn’t lack in talent. Could be a good pick up if used correctly.

One thing I will give Hurst is that he always signs good left backs, no doubt this will be another one.
Full backs in general, I'd say? On both sides. Makes sense, as he was one. How we could do with a Conor Townsend MK I again.

MK II would be even better…

I’m wary of Efete’s defending after watching him against Rotherham but he’ll be fine in attack, Crookes looks very solid though. Unsure where this lad will be used or if he’ll even be first choice!

Hurst cited Crookes can play on the left of a 3 at the back. With Eftete being better going forward and the new guy seemingly the same, I wouldn’t be surprised to see 3 (it’s 5 but I’m sick of making that point) at the back at times.

Reputed to be better than his older brother Dominic, who we had on loan last season, was at 18. Dominic was pure class for us, and a really nice lad, so that looks to be a great signing.
Oh great stuff, cheers for that. Looking forward to our trip to you this season, it's on my birthday weekend.

That's Michee in a nutshell, he'll be good for Grimsby though as you'll be on the front foot for most matches.

No problem. Hopefully the weather'll be kind to you. The result almost certainly will.....
I'll be taking absolutely nothing for granted. We've dropped many a point we weren't supposed to in this division.

Paul Hurst: ...hold us beer.

Eastleigh have sold full back Joe Tomlinson to Posh
Big blow for them that. Think they’ll struggle to replicate last season’s play off push.

Notts County & Halifax fans - we've signed a lad called Sam Graham from Sheff U on a two year deal. Big, fast Centre Back, 20 y/o. I believe he's served loan time with you chaps - any thoughts??

We’ve had him on loan the last two seasons. The first one he started really well and established himself as first choice and one of our better players during the first couple of months of the season. He then unfortunately did his Achilles and was out for the whole season. We brought him back at the start of last season, but by then we had a new, established partnership that was doing well, so he never really got a game and went back to Sheffield United early.

If he’s fully over the injury then he showed enough in that short first spell to suggest he’s got the right attributes to have a good EFL career. As you said, he is (was?) noticeably strong and quick. Seemed a good lad anyway, hope he does well for himself.

Looked pretty good at CB when he played for us - a little raw but a solid, physically imposing defender, no issues with pace.

He ruptured his Achilles which cut his loan spell short but came back on loan a few months later. Couldn’t really get in the team though cos we were well served for CBs that time round. But if his injury hasn’t affected him too badly it should be a decent signing.

Seems like he wasn’t rated at Stockport and Crawley but he can’t be worse than what we had up top last season
Sorry Shrimpurh but Sam Dalby was never at Crawley.

He was good for us. Very raw at the time but was good in the air and fairly quick. Based on what Notts County fans have said, he could do ok in the FL.
