Cassidy was a decent player for us, and that was in League One. Weird how his career has imploded since.

We said the same when he signed for Maidenhead and York.

The lad is soft as shite and has a heart the size of a pea, their lass is a better footballer.

Cassidy has lots of mates in the game who put in good words for him. He'd be at step 3 otherwise, really basic and slow target man.

Getting £18k off Stevenage for him, who then released him 6 months later, is still one of our chairman's greatest achievements.

Its weird how his career has gone backwards so fast. Was really highly rated at Wolves and Tranmere.

I always worried he'd end up here, as he comes from the North Wales coast.

Dean Saunders ruined Cassidy's career.

He was the best striker in League One in the 2012-13 season when he was on loan with us from Wolves. However, when Saunders got the Wolves job, he recalled Cassidy in the January transfer window and played him as a lone striker in a struggling side heading for relegation from the Championship. There was some suspicion that the whole move was engineered to help his former club, Doncaster, who were our promotion rivals at the time. He struggled badly.

His confidence was shot, and when he came back to us the following season he was not the same player, scoring about one goal in thirty, I think. His career then nosedived.

Doesn't surprise me. Saunders was/is insane.

Saunders is batshit crazy and clueless, but I think it’s difficult to solely blame him. On paper you could say that, and you could maybe look at confidence issues, but when you’ve got Hartlepool and York fans saying he’s lazy and that he has a weak heart, then the lad has got to look at himself. Anyone can miss a chance, anyone can give the ball away, I will always have time for players who actually impose themselves on a game even if they’re not providing the necessary quality, at least they’re attempting to do something, but when you’re not even trying, you’ve killed your own career for me.

We’ve released a load of players, including Ross McCormack who probably played a total of about 45 minutes.
Jeez someone was going to have to go some to top our calamity pre season but you may have just done it. How many players you talking. McCormack really has nosedived this last few years. One of the best in the championship about 5 years back.

If any of you Spireite types are interested, Martin Smith is getting an absolute hammering from fans who went to the friendlies. One of the worst players to pull on the famous blue and white stripes apparently.

A little surprised to hear he's been that bad but he was never going to pull up any tress. Just your typical average, no frills lower league player.

He was liked at Maidenhead as well.
Worked hard and effective.

He did a job for us, but our 2019-20 team was a very poor side. Not as good as Clifton was the season before and he although he holds the ball up well he just doesn't enter the box enough.

Good signing for Halifax I reckon; if he can stay fit I’m sure he can surpass Hyde’s 12 goals last season.

With Horsfield supposedly signed too we are probably looking at another 4/5 signings on top of him to get us to the 20/21 Wild is after.

I feel we need

Backup GK
CB
LB
ST

If we were to sign another i think it’s open to debate. Depends on what formation we go with.

4-5-1 doesnt work for us. We have always been shite on the ball. Summerfield has improved that but unless others up there game we ain't keeping it long enough to allow others up the pitch.

Our most highly rated youngster has gone to Leicester for a £12.50 and a bag of balls and cones, thanks EPPP. Still, good luck to the lad:

Leicester are one of the few who pay over what EPPP requires them to, to Club's down at this level (after 'x' amount of seasons in the NL, Academy can leave for free as they don't fall under EPPP).

When they took a couple of youngsters off us when we were in the NL, they didn't need to pay anything but asked what equipment the Academy needed and then paid us for both players (not massive amounts but low 5-figures each) and provided some of their unused equipment, too.

Seem to remember Aston Villa did similar and sent a truck load of training equipment as well.

Wondered the same thing, it's leaving it late to start squad building.

No idea - think there were 12 in total but included a few that we already knew had left but never got announced our end (like Miller to Dover and Tanner to Ebbsfleet).

Quite possibly the biggest news of our preseason though is that Harry Panayiotou has been offered a new contract by us, but has also received several offers from Football League clubs…

Why is Craig Tanner now at Ebbsfleet? I thought he’d be with you lads for a season or two and find himself back in the Football League!
